Google AdWords
Hi everyone. In a previous election, I ended up having a great deal of success with the Google AdWords program. Every time a person typed in the name of competition, an ad for my candidate appeared on the page. The ad pointed to a site that I had created detailing why you should not vote for the competition.
I noticed an enormous increase in traffic once I started the AdWords campaign. Woul anyone be interested in doing this for Ron Paul? We could do keywords for Huckabee, Giuliani, Romney, etc. so each time a person did a search for the other candidates, there would be a link to a Ron Paul page at the top of Google's page.
The cost would be around $1 a click, so maybe if we feel it is a bit too pricey, the actual Paul campaign might be interested.
Thoughts?
Thanks. :-)

Cost Estimate...
You can tell Google how much you are willing to spend per day on your campaign, so you do get complete control over the cost. Right now, here is how much words are running per click:
huckabee - $1
giuliani - $.30
mccain - $.20
mitt - $.30
romney - $.30
rudy - $.20
iowa - $.15
gop - $.20
campaign - $1
caucus - $.30
new hampshire - $.40
politics - $.50
president - $.50
primary - $1
cedar rapids - $.50
davenport - $1
des moines - $.50
dubuque - $.40
iowa city - $.50
sioux city - $.50
waterloo - $.50
meet the press - $.40
republican debate - $.20
The reason I threw in the cities is I recieved a lot of hits from small towns who were searching for information about their area and happened to see the link at the top of the page.
The "meet the press" one could link directly to an archive of Ron Paul's performance tomorrow, and "republican debate" could link to videos of the Paul highlights from the debates.
bump
sounds good, I like it, cost estimates??
Thanks for the Replies
Wow...I was pretty excited to see so many replies. One difference between this and what I did in a previous election is the cost. In that case I was able to purchase quite a few key words associated with the competition for around 10 cents (although by election day the price was up to 25 cents). In this example, they are already at $1. The total cost for my 5 months campaign was around $700. The election came down to very few votes and my guy won, so I feel like I did make a difference.
There is something very satisfying when you type in the name of the opposition and you see your candidate appears on the top of Google's page.
By the way, I was chatting with a co-worker today about the election and mentioned Ron Paul. He told me that he had NEVER heard of Paul. The kicker is he is fairly active politically (he tends to vote Democratic), always votes and uses the Internet quite a bit. After telling him a bit more about Paul, he said that he would look into him and might even vote for him. :-)
On final thought -- I wonder how much Google charges the AdWords campagins if a ton of people click on a link. For example, if everyone typed in Huckabee and clicked on the Huckabee link at the top, would it start costing them thousands of dollars or do they have a way of preventing that?
This would be a good time for a tax ad campaign
As a small business owner I'm googling the hell out of tax stuff right now especially with the recent change to AMT
Business owner's deal with taxes now (calendar year) not on April 15th

Maybe Not!
Although I believe the Google AddWord program does work, I do not believe it is the best use of our money.
It goes without saying that Ron Paul and his supporters (all of us) Dominate the Internet. Therefore, the most important use of our time and money should be focused on the general public that does not spend half of their free time on the Internet.
I would rather see the money spent on the Ron Paul DVD Bomb, 30 days to Iowa, Operation Live Free or Die, and/or the Ron Paul Blimp. These "boots on the ground" type efforts have more potential to enlist new Ron Paul supporters (in my opinion) than any Google AdWord advertisement ever will.
I do like the DVD Bomb idea... never understood why that didnt
take off like some other things have. I donated twice to it.

Seems like a good idea--let's do it without official campaign?
Just note, that doing it via an official campaign might not necessarily be such a great choice (could be perceived as "negative" and actually, well... blowback on us--see: Clinton's downfall in polls after criticism of Obama's health care plan).
Still, I think it might be worth doing via grassroots.
Just my two cents - I might be wrong...
It doesn't have to be negative... Ron Paul is not negative
I suggest we make it a issue branding thing as opposed to an attack ad
"Gun Rights Protected - Which candidate can you count on for the 2nd amendment"
click... brings you to a page specific to gun rights with links to everything else. Very targeted.
etc....

I like it now!
That's also what I meant - Ron Paul's campaign hasn't been negative so far and it doesn't have to be. In fact, his message is the most positive of all the candidates (freedom, prosperity, peace, hope - who can be against any of these?) and I also think this draws the support.
I like it the way you suggested now :-)
This idea seems inefficient.
This idea seems inefficient. RP gets plenty of free clicks from places like youtube and digg. I think the Ron Paul Payday idea is the best use of our fiat paper.
I disagree. These are people looking for OTHER candidates/issues
The original poster is talking about branding each facet of the message
"abortion" for example
The person may click the ad when they are forced to see something about it. It doens't even have to say Ron Paul.

I run an E-Commerce business and this works
I support the original poster's idea
It can get very costly though
