FEC is shutting down due to government ineptitude.

"And then there is a range of vexing campaign finance questions that hang in limbo: Can a firm that operates a blimp accept unlimited contributions to fly it over New Hampshire with Ron Paul's name on the side?"

It's never a bad thing

when an unconstitutional federal agency shuts down. This is an unmitigated good; once the primary continues to function just fine without the FEC, the public will be that much closer to seeing just how much better life would be without the rest of the federal agencies.

Unless this is a deliberate attempt

such that the "annointed" candidates by the CFR, etc can have their pockets lined with unlimited funding. I'd still like to read more about this.

Well...

Two things come to mind, one potentially a bummer.

Does the FEC's closing temporarily mean that there won't be anyone to verify the FEC filings of cash raised by pres campaigns in the 4th quarter? So that they won't have to give the RP the clear fundraising win?

OTOH, this article mostly reminds me of the 1995-96 government shutdowns under Clinton. The Washington Post whined on behalf of the federal employees and welfare recipients who weren't getting their paychecks as soon as they were used to. (Heaven forbid they have to live life like the rest of us.) But the rest of the country didn't notice a thing.

Is this their way of trying to beat the MoneyBombs?

Will this allow unlimited donations because of a lack of any oversight? I really think this might be HUGE news to digest and knowing what I know about the Powers that Be, this could be their way of trying to stop Paul.

Any other thoughts?

Dangerous

Yes, there is a very very big potential problem here.

Depending on how long the FEC sits on the sidelines, the primaries can be derailed by illegal contributions, and that won't be stopped by the FEC until AFTER the primaries.

Never forget there is the 11th Hour Pardon Pen....

What does this mean?

Now there is no regulations on donations? Please eloborate. Thanks.

The blimp is freedom of

The blimp is freedom of speech. Let the other candidates supporters do the same thing if they want to and can afford it.

No limits on fund raising

No limits on fund raising would be a huge benefit for libertarian candidates. Think of all the rich playboys who would like to keep their money and spend it on hookers and dope without fear of prison. :-D

This is HUGE news, and potentially VERY bad

I smell a RAT here. Does this mean people like Romney and Guiliani can accept unlimited amounts of money from Corporations and individuals? I smell a HUGE RAT here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not good

The fec is one of the few gov organizations that actually helped keep things in check. I agree with what others have said already, this will likely allow the other compaigns to take in large donations without fear of consequences.

I think this may have been done deliberatly.

Another government agency not operational.

It doesn't surprise me that the government shows no interest in policing itself. Lobbyists are also accepting donations on a candidates behalf. How can one monitor envelopes full of cash that change hands? It is impossible to stop the dirty money, the way to combat it is through numbers. Ron Paul's message of freedom is intuitive and contagious. Share it with whomever you can!

Note the paragraph in this

Note the paragraph in this story that states:

"And then there is a range of vexing campaign finance questions that hang in limbo: Can a firm that operates a blimp accept unlimited contributions to fly it over New Hampshire with Ron Paul's name on the side? Can a senator use his campaign account as a legal defense fund? How will campaigns comply with the new law that requires them to identify the lobbyists who are collecting campaign checks on their behalf?"

Note that Ron Paul is the only named mentioned whereas the Senator with the legal defense fund and candidates taking money from lobbyist are not mentioned.

To someone not as versed in the 2008 election campaigns as we readers at DailyPaul are, it might appear that it is Ron Paul who has a legal defense fund and who takes money from lobbyists.

Do I think it's a smear or an act of conspiracy? No, but it could convieniently leave a wrong impression in the minds of some voters.

Right

Definitely leaves the impression that it is all Dr. Paul. Intentional? Probably.

This Is Good News

One federal agency is almost already out the door. Perhaps we can give it a little push to help close it's doors forever.

FEC

I think this is some kind of political strategy ploy. Something just smell bad. FEC goes out in a presidential election year?! C'mon...

Stay tuned.

Agreed. Could it be because

Agreed. Could it be because all of Bush's friends cant seem to raise enuff money withn the rules?

I agree

I don't know exactly how it works, but won't this allow campaigns to accept unlimited funds from any entity? I mean, instead of being limited to $2,300 per person or the $5,000 per whatever, won't this let people like McCain and Huckabee, who don't have much money in the bank, accept millions from special interest groups? If that's the case, then I'm afraid that our fund-raising superiority will suddenly become low-tier.

This could be good

They are unable to process requests for matching funds. Sorry McCain, Santa didn't come this year.

5% of people make things happen
10% of people watch things happen
85% say "What happened?"

I'm praying that's what happens.

I can't believe ANY Republican would call himself "conservative" and then take welfare-for-politicians. Then again, RINOs aren't really Republicans.
