Ron Paul: Why I’m suing the Obama administration over Libya

There is no issue more serious than war. Wars result in the loss of life and property. Wars are also expensive and an enormous economic burden.
Our Founders understood that waging war is not something that should be taken lightly, which is why Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution gives Congress — not the president — the authority to declare war. This was meant to be an important check on presidential power. The last thing the Founders wanted was an out-of-control executive branch engaging in unnecessary and unpopular wars without so much as a Congressional debate.
Unfortunately, that’s exactly the situation we have today in Libya.
That’s why I’ve joined several other members of Congress in a lawsuit against President Obama for engaging in military action in Libya without seeking the approval of Congress.

It will be interesting to see if this story gets legs over the weekend or if it will get buried.
I'm amazed at some of the things coming out of The White House right now. If taking on Congress is a re-election strategy, the fireworks will be fun to watch. I just hope Congress wakes up and takes their authority seriously.
Although Obama usurped Congress's power...
Ron Paul really needs to make Congress stick to its guns and fight with everything against Obama, who cares if it's short-lived. Obama WILL be punished if they do.
Frankly I do not expect very
Frankly I do not expect very much to come of this lawsuit. The President of the US has the power of a dictator and there is nothing Congress can do about it. The President controls the purse strings (Congress relinquished that responsibility years ago), he is over the law enforcement (civiliand and military), and the courts. States rights -- including the rights of the people ended during the 1860s under the Lincoln Presidency. The Constitutional power arrangement bwtween the States/people completely flipped giving the Federal government the power to dictate to the States and people.
Dr. Paul is correct in trying to hold the
executive branch to the principals and restrictions of the Constitution. Congress has failed to do this for decades now, but it's nice to know there are people like Dr. Paul who still care about it.
Can we severely punish that traitor

Politically, that might be hard to do.
It might alienate some dems who might otherwise vote for him. But this is the next best thing.

The dems didn't even want to impeach Bush! Kucinich tried to get the ball rolling on that one, too. Despite all the years of grandstanding - when the opportunity presented itself, they couldn't be bothered!
