Senate defeats amendment to prevent IMF bailouts with US funds

The Senate on Wednesday defeated an amendment in a 44-55 vote that would have prevented the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from using $108 billion in U.S. monies to bail out foreign nations.

The author of the amendment, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), said he is concerned that the IMF is using U.S. funds to rescue irresponsible nations and banks. He said the U.S. can no longer afford to offer such aid.

"There is no excuse for us giving away money around the world when we cannot even keep our promises here in America today, promises we have made to our seniors, promises we have made to our veterans," said DeMint.

Rockefeller

Can't believe he voted in favor of it? lol

The vote was closer than I expected.

This will make a grand issue for the GOP in 2012.

Famous Quote from Justice William O. Douglas

"The Constitution is not neutral.
It was designed to take the government
off the backs of people."

T'is sad US Senate wouldn't stop $108 B give-away to IMF [sigh].

$108 B carted off to the Immaculate Money Fountain (IMF).
No Bid! Conflict of principal & interest!

Oxen & their carts pull slowly away from the Fed. They trundle off with your cash. It is only a few blocks from the Fed headquarters, Washington DC Capitol Mall to the IMF headquarters. The strain on the oxen & taxpayers is immense. No reporter in site! No newsreel! No police chase of the ox carts trundling off your cash.

Congress (a very large debtor) takes a $108 B loan from an international private bank, the Fed (creating "legal tender" out-of-thin-air) to give to another private international bank (IMF) to help them (the IMF) get paid royalties from Greece (a small debtor).

Is there no shame in international banking?

This $108 B contract is no bid. The Fed & IMF have about 17% shared ownership. They have conflict of principal & interest!

Even the Keystone Cops could catch ox carts fully laden with your cash. Alas, the Keystone state is Pennsylvania. Keystone Cops are busy chasing down other capers.

Senate Gifts $108 Billion to IMF Privateers! Time saving gift?

US senate gift wraps $108 Billion, in a time-saving bill payable to the Immaculate Money Fountain (IMF). Following traditions steeped in the art of deception, this eruption of financial Vesuvius, $108 Billion was embedded into a bill titled:

"Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011"

Badly named: This time-saving measure designed to eliminate the need for executive nominees for minor posts in the government to be confirmed by the Senate as a whole. Instead it would allow the process to be dealt with on a committee level.

PS: Pin a $108 Billion note to Turbo Timmy's shirt. Send him along with Uncle Ben to the IMF Headquarters in just a few blocks away in Washington DC. Timmy G & Uncle Ben are member at the privateer club, IMF. The $108 Billion note will help the older members accept Timmy as one of their own. Like a son.

PSS: Following that vote, the Senate passed by unanimous consent a Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) amendment to ensure that certain military comptrollers (spenders) would have to continue to be confirmed under the Senate's full confirmation process.

PSSS: The Senate amendment [ that was just defeated ] would have ensured that nominees to the IMF Board of Governors would still require confirmation by the full Senate.

[ Meaning, IMF board nominees no longer waste time getting full Senate blessing. It will be simpler to pin a $108 Billion note to Turbo Timmy's shirt & send him & our wealth off on his day camps at the IMF. ]

Votes

Is there anyway to find out how people voted? The comment there says it cannot be found?

donvino

Ya know,

I just spent about 1/2 hr. trying to find out this information. Page after page of possible amendments...I, for one, do not believe this nonsense is what our forefathers had in mind.
Imo, bills/amendments, etc. should be brief, RARE and only happening when there's the unlikely need to amend the Constitution. (If the Constitution would have been followed in the past, I'm saying) Bills should cover one topic only, Congress should have to write the bill, the applicable Constitutional justification (cite the portion of the Constitution authorizing the bill) should be included and said justification should NOT BE THE RIDICULOUS COMMERCE CLAUSE oft-cited!!
Congress WAS NOT meant to be this over-bloated bill-after-bill conglomeration!! It should be a part-time thing!!

I found this thus far:
U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), David Vitter (R-Louisiana) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) today offered an amendment to the Economic Development Revitalization Act

I cannot find this information under roll calls;
Economic Revitalization Act is: S782
I found a S1276 that MAY be it... Who knows?
