Who is Thaddeus McCotter???

I remember his bread speech back in 2008 during the bailout debates and was quite impressed with him. He's not really viable in the ways of winning I don't believe but he could bring another liberty minded voice to the debate and maybe set himself up for 2016. Anyone know much about him?

Washington— Rep. Thaddeus McCotter will officially kick off his bid for the White House on Saturday, he said this morning.
The Livonia Republican, now in his fifth term in the U.S. House, has been publicly mulling a run for the nation's top office for more than a month after being prodded into considering it by Greg Gutfeld, the late-night host of Fox News Channel's "Red Eye," just weeks after the release of McCotter's book, "Seize Freedom!"
McCotter — who confirmed his plans this morning on WJR-AM (760) by saying "I'll be announcing tomorrow ... that I'm running," — plans to file paperwork today with the Federal Election Commission. His website, www.mccottter2012.com, is already up and running, and it reflects his book's title and message.
"Your American Dream is endangered," the McCotter 2012 home page warns. "Seize Freedom!"
Visitors are asked to join the campaign's mailing list, and are shown what McCotter is calling his "five core principles," which include "our liberty is from God not the government" and "our truths are self-evident not relative."
McCotter has secured office space in western Wayne County for his campaign and has hired a former speaker of the Iowa House, Chris Rants, as a campaign adviser and is working to hire advisers in New Hampshire.
He becomes the third conservative member of the U.S. House to throw his hat into the 2012 GOP ring: Reps. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Ron Paul of Texas also are running.
McCotter had told reporters in Iowa he would announce a decision before Aug. 12. He first told reporters in late May he was considering a run. He also raised eyebrows when his campaign reportedly paid $18,000 to take part in the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa in August.

Here is a paste of my comment re: Thad McCotter

from a thread here http://www.dailypaul.com/168732/ron-pauls-campaign-snags-bes... discussing booth site positions for the Ames straw poll:

Apparently he is running? I had never heard of him before today, but it appears he is strongly pro-war. More info at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thad_McCotter

According to the posted article, he is the second-highest bidder for a straw poll location. Here's an interesting snip:

McCotter's $18,000 bid is the clearest sign yet that he's really going to run for president. A source says he was represented by Iowa lobbyist Kellie Paschke, who triggered a brief walkout by refusing to identify the candidate she was working with.

Thad McCotter is an

Thad McCotter is an Israel-firster and part-time union shill. That's all I need to know about the man to know he's more of the same.

Thad's speeches on the house floor are usually good but his voting record is tainted with neoconist nonsense, as well as the GM bailout. (But his Michigan constituents would have his head if he didn't.)

There's hope in that aging 80s rocker. Perhaps the total chaotic collapse of our global empire and the start of WWIII this October will bring him to his senses on foreign policy...

I don't know when more "conservatives" will actually recognize what it truly means. Conservative fiscally and not with foreign policy does not make a true conservative.

He's a liberty-minded...neo-con

From his website:

"We must support sovereign democracies under terrorist threats, including Israel, a staunch ally and strategic asset under an ever-growing threat from terrorist forces and hostile nations. While we support a negotiated peace between Israel and the Palestinians, we must not dictate any terms of the agreement or force our ally to directly or indirectly negotiate with terrorists like Hamas.

Our military must be strengthened so it can deter and defeat hostile regimes, terrorists and insurgents, if necessary.
We must oppose any cuts in the military budget that would compromise those capabilities"

NEVER trust an Israel supporter!

"Well, aside from those horns and long pointed tail and pitchfork, he looks okay to me".

I'm just echoing your skeptical comments!
