15 Food Companies That Serve You 'Wood.' Yum yum!

The recent class-action lawsuit brought against Taco Bell raised questions about the quality of food many Americans eat each day.

Chief among those concerns is the use of cellulose (read: wood pulp), an extender whose use in a roster of food products, from crackers and ice creams to puddings and baked goods, is now being exposed. What you're actually paying for -- and consuming -- may be surprising.

Although I appreciate any

Although I appreciate any endeavors to look into the foods you are eating- to paint cellulose as something dangerous or to call it "wood" as if you're eating bark is misleading on purpose. Cellulose is basically fiber and helps your digestion. You eat an apple you're eating cellulose. There's nothing wrong with it.

Its like if I tried to scare people who wanted more Iron in their diet by saying "THEY'RE FEEDING YOU METAL! THE SAME IRON THAT IS USED IN SWORDS DO YOU LIKE EATING SWORDS?" Educate people don't scare them.

interesting, but no biggie

after reading the article it appears there is not much issue with cellulose and no case for concern. I expected there would be much worse things in taco bell etc. so this is only surprising by how not bad it is.

wood resources

also contain lignin, a glue-like substance used as binders in food products. perfectly safe, and useful.

it is the other CRAP found in packaged foods - as in - the very food they are purporting to sell that is dangerous. like the south american beefroidlike product that is bound by the lignin.

It's fraud but not dangerous, right?

It's a rip-off and fraud if they claim it is 100% meat or whatever, but cellulose is in pills and supplement coatings among other things. Lettuce is rich in cellulose. It's contained in most plant matter, too, I think. It is filler though in this case, but it's not akin to putting novel petro-chemicals in food though.

Reminds me of "The Great Dictator" starring Charlie Chaplin

That Reminds me of "The Great Dictator" starring Charlie Chaplin.

Chaplin's dictator (Hitler) mutters, "The people! The people! What have they to complain about?!"

Herr Garbage (Goebbels) replies, "They complain because there's too much sawdust in their bread!"

The dictator says, "Why? That sawdust comes from the finest sawmills in the country!"

"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"

You know what would be pretty cool?

If I could get together with a friend and put together a site with news like this everyday. The problem is me I guess?Did I not put enough into it or is it because I am friends with Tomasz?.One email would clear it up so that I will know whether to go on or not my friend. Please show me enough respect to send me on my way.Just answer one email my friend.Thank you and if I owe you for your help just give me an amount and an address and I will send it out tomorrow my friend.I am left hanging here, due to what exactly?

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Any Problems Yet?

Paying members have the ignore function, I think. If they do, have you noticed problems in threads? I recall you said there would be continuity problems in threads. Other problems, too?

about an email conversation. I think. I can't tell.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

He probably is. I saw his

He probably is. I saw his name and recalled a few days ago, before paid membership was available, he and I were talking about the ignore function. I was glad that function was about to be available and he was against this fuction because he worried about a break in thread continuity and the inability of people who have beefs with each other to make amends.

He asked questions on how the function would work. Although I don't know how it works, I told him I guess it would be that "Joey" ignores "John," disabling John's comments and posts being visible to Joey but that John would still see Joey's comments until he, John, ignores Joey.

I advocated that the ignore function be at the user's discretion, in that he ignore and un-ignore someone at his will. There were a few other matters on this topic he and I talked about, one of which was a window of opportunity for someone who's been ignored to contact who ignored him to ask for forgiveness. That window, I said, could be two days a month in the middle of a month, and I went on discussing that option. (Jon, if you want to read my ideas and his concerns about the ignore function, let me know; I'll post the link to that thread.) I did say, too, that I hope the ignore function is available to everyone, not only to paying members, because I'm in no position to afford it. That's how bad my financial status is. Anyway.

So, Jon, how's the ignore function and the DP free of ads? What other functions are available for paying members and how are those functions?

About ads, at most I wondered why Bachmann and other candidates were on the DP, but after a while I paid no attention to them. I hope the DP continues to advertise organizations, companies and whatever else friendly to the DP, Ron Paul and freedom. Perhaps some of those ads can be DPers who have business so that other DPers can shop there instead of non-freedom websites and shops. Why not support each other?

When I think about the Daily Paul, I see potential whose bounds are limited only to the people here. Frankly, the potential is limitless. Most people here devour information. They are turnstiles of freedom, continually turning to bring in another person who, after all, has discovered freedom does work.

We're cool

ATruepatriot did what he thought was best and pulled me out from under the couch by the tail. I got flustered working on a project is all. We didn't talk about DP or it's members. Nothing personal or anything of the sort.

Misunderstanding about ATrue

Hey, northstar,

Heehee. There seems to be a misunderstanding. My comment to ATrue was what it was: Has he noticed problems on the DP since its changes, since last week when memebers could be paying members? That's it. *shoulders shrug about anything else* Unfortunately, he's not replied to my question. Who knows why. Then again, what used to not be common is common now: reading into words -- inference. A waste of time it can create.

An elucidation:
1) I saw ATrue's name
2) I recalled what he and I talked about beforehand
3) I asked him that question

Note: What goes on between two or more people not involving me is just that, not involving me.

Blown out of proportion

I'm not aware of any plant eaten by humans that does not contain cellulose. Who cares where the cellulose is harvested from? In my book, the cheaper the source, the better for the consumer. I fail to see the outrage.

Apparently I do, and just never realized it. What's your point?

All fruits you eat have

All fruits you eat have cellulose in them. That's the fiber that helps clean out our body.

"Read: ...."

Hey, northstar. Cool. I didn't know there's another person on DP who has used "read:...." I can't remember the last time I've seen anyone anywhere use it. lol. Neat (read: shnazzy) to know! :p

'wood' yum yum

LOL!

Thanks for posting this. I see the wood is usually organic.

I suppose wood is better than fluoride?

Non-toxic vs toxic.

Just because you bribe some

Just because you bribe some FDA agent, doesn't mean that it passes state law. This story is pretty shocking as it shows that something that almost certainly is criminal is being allowed on a widespread basis. Wood pulp is certainly not eatable by humans.

Everything's "eatable"

as long as you can swallow it.

Cellulose is partially

Cellulose is partially digestible by humans. Just like the cellulose in an apple isn't digestible(it comes out the other end). This is FIBER which I'm sure you're all familiar with and why its necessary for a healthy digestive system. Although its enlightening to know that they're putting in your food, don't spread misinformation.

Good sense vs eating sawdust, raw iron, wood alcohol

The only information here that is misinformation appears to be from you - see below.

If you will look online, most of the cellulose they are using in the food industry is in fact specifically wood cellulose, not any plant's cellulose. It's cheaper. You are making it appear like it is coming from any source - that is misinformation because it is misleading.

Then you jabber on about eating any old iron is ok. This shows me that you haven't read much about nutrition, because there is also a difference between eating chetalated iron vs shoving shaved iron filings down your throat. Non-chetalated iron in vitamins makes a lot of people sick, including me.

Sure, cellulose can sometimes be partially broken down. Yeast, for instance, will break some of it down into wood alchohol, which is poisonous. Want to drink wood alcohol?

Enemy POW's Are Routinely Fed Sawdust, Why Are You Surprised?

According to The Trading With The Enemy Act 1933 we are all enemy POW's held by the now foreign owned U.S. Government.
Why wouldn't they feed us sawdust and put sodium fluoride in the POW camp water supply?
How is our situation any different than being a POW in Nazi Germany? Other than the fact most Americans have become unwitting collaborators to the quiet occupation of America.
I see no difference other than the size of the POW camp. In case you didn't notice they are putting the wire up at the airports so those of us who wake up do not escape.
