Ron Paul Speaks on the Christian Just War Theory

This is a great video to get to patriotic, conservative Christians (Iowa, South Carolina, etc.) who tend to support the troops and accept the government justification for every military action we become involved in.

As James Madison put it:

As James Madison put it:

"Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes. And armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended. Its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and morals, engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."[

Well said. Every American

Well said. Every American should hear this.

Security ?

"There is no security on this earth; there is only opportunity." -- Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964) WWII Supreme Allied Commander of the Southwest Pacific, Supreme United Nations Commander

I've never understood "Support the Troops"..

So do you "support them" by cheering on every time our law makers send them to war with yet another country, with absolutely zero American freedoms at stake.

Or do you support the troops by holding the bastards in Washington accountable for the lives of our men and women who signed up to DEFEND their nation, not pipelines and banks.

Some people are really screwed up.

This is a...

quote from a famous English preacher, Charles Spurgeon, at the time of Queen Victoria's reign:

“Whatsoever things are honest, true, kind, humane, and moral, may reckon our aid. We are on the side of temperance, and therefore on the side of the limitation of the abominable traffic which is ruining our country; and we are opposed to all that licenses vice among men, or allows cruelty to animals. We are up to the hilt advocates of peace, and we earnestly war against war. I wish that Christian men would insist more and more on the unrighteousness of war, believing that Christianity means no sword, no cannon, no bloodshed, and that if a nation is driven to fight in its own defense, Christianity stands by to weep and to intervene as soon as possible, and not to join in the cruel shouts which celebrate an enemy’s slaughter. Let us always be on the side of right. Today, then, my brethren, I beg you to join with me in seeking renewal. Now is the time for a man to buckle on his harness, and bestir himself."

How different our country would have been today if Christian pastors adhered to the above when George Bush and his oily constituents were in full swing beguiling the flock with his lies and deceit. I left the church after a pastor told the congregation that "we fight them over there, so we don't have to fight them over here," and the stooges in the pew all cheered and cried "Amen!'

Here is a link to Spurgeon's Quote

Look for the paragraph beginning “Whatsoever things are honest, true, kind, humane, and moral, may reckon our aid."
It's over half way into the sermon, maybe 30 paragraphs or so.
The sermon is titled "A New Departure".

Thank you, robbjerk & sleuth 51

for both the comments and the link. Thank God for enlightened brothers and sisters in Messiah!

Informal poll.

Will you all help me with an informal poll.

I sense that a huge percentage of Christians (I'd say anything above 20% is huge, but I think the number is closer to 50% at least) are for pre-emptive war.

Is that your sense, what percentage of your congregation are for all these wars?

I was talking with a friend in my church who argued that God in the Old Testament ordered his people to go attack and kill others, i.e., go to war without being attacked.

I replied, "True, but God ordered it! But God has not commanded, nor have the Bushes, or Obama, claimed God has commanded them to wage war on other countries."

Anyway, the point is that he was trying to argue for and justify pre-emptive war! There are millions of good, smart, righteous, God-fearing country who really believe we are doing something just and right.

Good setting, bad music

I found the music very distracting and too loud. But I love the angle of the camera, the lighting, the trees in the background. You have the sense of a folk hero speaking at a picnic with his friends.

I remember watching a series of videos made of this speech. They are all good. Maybe a bit of editing to condense all the best lines into a 3 minute video?

ytc's picture

Beautifully put together. This is one of the videos that I wish

we could have on the front page ALL the time. . . for everyday visit.

don't know how Chrstianity even applies here, . . .

being that this is a zionist country :-(

Good Video

I saw it a long time ago. I wish RP would of produced more in the way of sources on this position. perhaps in his writings these could be found

Excellent video

911 False, RP

Robb, thanks for posting this fascinating video. First, for the "Just War Doctrine/Theory", - no preemptive attacks on others. And blessed are the peace-makers. America under RP watch will regain a lot of respect, which was lost by Bush, now Obama.
Please listen again from 1:00-min only 15 seconds, Ron Paul mentions weapons & 911, - then says -"its completely false". I imagine it is about the 911 attacks themselves, or he may be saying it about weapons. More comments from DPers will help.

Ron Paul on Christianity and Preemptive War

RP said - "Our campaign is for freedom, prosperity & peace".

Now there is a man

with perspective.

I have heard RP refer to Just War Doctrine

as a theory (which it isn't) and a doctrine (which it is).

Correct, however,

... I like to think that our Constitution (a document) is completely dependent on the theory of freedom/liberty on which it's built.

The Christian Just War Document is no different, people should respect the documents, but understand the theory behind it is key.

Excellent. Thank you.
