The goal of the activity is to argue point and counterpoint to a issue, in this case animal welfare. Locate articles that support both sides of the argument. For instance, if a company wants to develop wetland that would displace wildlife, find articles that support and oppose development of the land. Divide students into two groups and provide the materials that you found. Thanks a lot.

That's Rand.

Rand is in the red playing this year's game. Ron's HR was the one from the 80s.

I Had To Search For Over An Hour For This Ron Paul Info, Why?

About Ron Paul, A Real American Hero.

Sprinter Speed
Excelling in track and field, he graduated from Dormont High School in 1953 with honors. He had a best
mark in the 100-yard dash of 9.7 seconds at a time when the national high school record for that event
was 9.4 seconds; He was the 220-yard dash state champion, and was also on the wrestling team, played
football and baseball, and was student council president.

Although he had knee surjery, a major university offered Paul a prestigious full scholarship in track,
chancing he could regain his prior speed; he declined, refusing to endorse the risk. Rather, he paid for
his first year at Gettysburg College with saved newspaper-delivery, lemonade-sale, and lawn-mowing
money; he later received a small academic scholarship. He delivered mail and laundry in Gettysburg;
managed the college coffee shop ("The Bullet Hole"); and joined the swim team. By his senior year, he
was running track again; he set the third-best marks in college history in the 100-yard dash (9.9 seconds)
and 220-yard dash......much more about Ron Paul at the link.

Awesome stuff

What a Mega-Stud!

Contrast that to the Obama page at the same web site.
Ron Paul's first job - age 5.

Obama's first job - after collage.

Ron Paul's teenage years - Working, Sports champion, School leader, Academic excellence!

Obama's teenage years - "used alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine"

wonder what other early year contrasts there are ?

-- 1st job
-- teenage years
-- college years
-- scholastic achievement(grades)
-- earliest influences in life (and heroes)
-- who used government programs to get ahead who did not .

I've Made Copies Of That Complete Article.

And intend on handing them out to anyone interested in learning about Ron Paul's early life.

Thanks for this thread.

I know the homerun happened

I know the homerun happened in the 80's, but this demonstrates that Dr. Paul is truly a renaissance man!

Ron Paul Only Congressman to ever Hit Home Run Over Fence

The Paul in the red jersey is RAND, not Ron. Ron didn't play in this one - guess that's why the democrats won ; )

Ron hit his homerun in the 80's.

This week, we learned that GOP Presidential Candidate Ron Paul is the only congressman to -- ever -- hit a home run over the fence during an annual "Congressional Baseball Game."

…Ron was the star of his Congressional baseball team in the 1980s. (He was good friends with Baseball Legend Nolan Ryan, too.)..

Very impressive!

Larger photos of Ron at bat:

About Thursday's game:

...The Dems dominated the game with their pitching, and Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) threw a one hitter over the game’s entire seven innings. Richmond, who played baseball while a student at Morehouse College, dismantled the Republican lineup and racked up repeated strikeouts.

…..Though his team lost and he struck out at the plate, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) seemed in high spirits afterward. “I always have fun playing,” said the senator, who was quick to add that his father, Rep. Ron Paul, is the only congressman to have hit a home run over the fence in the congressional baseball game’s 50-year history.

that is Rand in red

that is true, you can tell #8 in red is Rand by the color of his hair in the back.

RP's Batting.

xx, thanks. I had thoughts about REP's batting yesterday, - and with optimism. see my post -

REP = Ronald Earnest Paul.

This is fantastic!

Someone should embed the pic!

It's not true

As much as I would like it to be true, it looks like this is a fake news story. The Republicans lost 8-2 and here is how they scored:

"The score was 8-0 by the top of the seventh inning, when Reps. Thad McCotter (R-Mich.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) both had strong hits and got on base.

With bases loaded, Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) was apparently hit with a pitch, and his walk brought in the GOP's first point. A catcher error with Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) at bat brought a second Republican runner into home plate."

If you read the story,

you'd know that it happened in the 1980s, and not this year.

and they say he is too old.

and they say he is too old. pfft

This might be an omen

And a good one at that!

The only one that can hit a

The only one that can hit a homerun for America - Ron Paul 2012.

Or from his uniform #..

Ron Paul #1 !!!!! :)

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

That's totally awesome. That's a deep statistic. The only home run over the fence...

This is the kind of story that needs to go viral

The dumbed down sports fans will eat this stuff up ( I know I was one of them).

Just like they did with Barry's jump shot.

This should be posted on every baseball teams fan website. Millions of fans and potential RPers.

But I wish the moment was better documented. I'm sure the campaign is getting tired of all these good things happening and not quite being able to capitalize on them.

If Romney hit a home run you could be sure that the world would know

Great piece! One more reason

Great piece! One more reason to like Ron Paul! He's a stud!

"He's a stud!"

My thoughts exactly!
