HOW MANY NEW REPUBLICANS?

0 votes

How many new republicans are there? How many new requests to change party affiliation? Is this measured somewhere? I think its safe to say that this would be the only true gauge of Ron Pauls support.

Also does anyone know how much of the population generally votes in a general election?

How many people total voted for George W last time?

I'll search these answrs on Google but I'm intrested in the groups feedback as well.

I am Registered Republican

and I have 30 applications. I already have 10 other people to sign up and vote. I am taking off of work on April 22nd (Pa. primary day) just to make sure these people get to the polls. I will drive them there and show them how to use the computers if they want me to. I know some of them just never voted because they were not sure of the process.

I switched over just in time

I switched over just in time here in Nevada, and will switch back as soon as the primaries are over here (to Libertarian).

I was a registered Democrat

I was a registered Democrat since I was 18.

I'm now 25 and have registered Republican.

I will vote for Ron Paul and eventually change my party affiliation to Independent.

I'm done with both the Dems and the Reps. Unless of course a man like Ron Paul shows up in the picture. ;)

I've gotten a few to sign up...

I've always been a Republican, and my parents have always been. I convinced them to vote for Ron Paul with the help of all the great videos out there on You Tube.

Got my bro and girlfriend to register Republican and vote for Ron Paul also. Working on some other people.

If Ron Paul does not win I will leave the Republican party. I won't vote for the Democrats as they are socialists. But I can't support Neo Con's either. Libertarians will probably gain another voter.

I've been wondering about this too

Good post. But noone here seems to know! I read Charlie Cook in that bile-piece in the NY Sun saying "hahaha, RP is not going to do anything!" which made me think he must know something - the GOP itself must have figures for some places on voter registration etc. and that they have told him. I worried a bit. I haven't been able to see anything on the net about this.

Changing For Ron Paul

I'm registered as a Dem in IL and am changing to Rep

My father in law in NY who has no internet and had not heard of Dr Paul and loves Goldwater is reading the things we mail him snail mail. I think we have him now too. He's 80!

Though most military men are

Though most military men are republican with out any reason, I have only registered republican this year. I have always been registered independant and have voted libertarian until the last election when I broke my own rule and voted for what I believed at the time was the lesser of two evils in Kerry (I despise where Bush has taken us). That will never happen again. The time is now my friends... RON PAUL 08!

My wife and I were

My wife and I were registered Republican in 2000 and changed to Independent in 2002.

We live in NC and will change to Republican before the primary. We don't vote until May. I am supporting Dr. Paul and just hope that the states that vote for Dr. Paul keep him in the running so we can put him over the top in May.

I have convinced my parents, inlaws as well as several coworkers and folks from my church to support Dr. Paul.

If we all do our part he will win.

Switched to R after seeing Dr. Paul

I first registered in '92 (to vote Perot) as a Dem, 'cause all through my public eduminication we were taught that Repubs were only out to help the rich get richer and the Dems really cared about the poor and middle class (yeah right!).

Don't think I ever voted for a Dem though. Stayed home in '04, wish I'd voted for Badnarik. Never voted in a primary, but only death will keep me away this year!

...let it not be said that we did nothing.
-Ron Paul

Leaving Republican Party

I will vote for Paul in 2008.

If NeoCons continue to control Repub party after 08, I will have to leave the Party as they have become too liberal.

Ohio Ind.

Always hold my nose and vote. Vote every election and primary.

Will be voting for RP.

Never been polled.

First time I have ever discussed politics in public and have convinced several people to vote for RP.

This is truely an amazing election cycle.

I'm an American

An American that has never given the political process 2 seconds of thought...

I find it interesting that it was economics (and the looming crisis) that lead me to Dr. Paul.

I have never voted at any level at any time in my life, yet now (at 46), not only am I registered to vote (Texas is open), I've filed to be the Precinct Chairman in my [open] Precinct and WILL vote for Ron Paul.

I can count 15 friends of mine that, while not "involved" with the rEVOLution will also be voting in the primaries for Ron Paul. If each of the Meetup members represents an average of 5 friends/family members that will also vote in the primaries (and I truly believe we do), then Dr Paul has already won.

New Republican

I registered as a republican in 1995. In 1999, I changed to Independent.

I voted for Harry Brown in 2000, nobody in 2004, and registered as a Republican for this primary. In that respect, I am a new Republican.

My wife has never been registered until recently, when she too (without my urging) registered as a Republican in order to vote in the primary.

New Republican

I have never registered to vote (31 years old). I have now, and I intend to vote in the primaries and the general election, even if I have to write RP's name on the ballot!

NM has a closed primary. So

NM has a closed primary. So I switched from Democrat to Republican to vote for Ron Paul. I have switched parties a lot to vote for the person and not the party. I wish we had an open primary, I get tired of switching parties all the time. I want freedom to choose the person regardless of party. I feel all states should have open primaries.

My parents in their 70's and big Democrats but like Ron Paul. My dad got a call from the Democrat party asking him who he would vote for. He told them it was between Dennis and Ron Paul. The good news for my parents is that they live in OH and that is an open primary state. I think my mom will vote for Ron, she sends me email links all the time on him, how great is that?

New Voter

I just turned 18 this past August. I was initially planning to register Libertarian, but then I learned in NY you had to be a member of the party to vote for a candidate in the primaries so I registered Republican. I do plan on switching to the LP though in a year when I'm eligible to switch parties.

A libertarian/Libertarian's perspective

I'm glad for your choice -- Ron Paul needs our support (one can always return/join the LP) but voting for Dr. Paul in the primary is very important. Thanks for that decision!

I changed over just in time...

Was always a Democrate until I heard Ron Paul & knew he'd
need us in the Primaries.

Libertarian Party member

Libertarian Party member since 1988(voted for RP then.) Registered libertarian since 1976(voted for Roger McBride.) I've never voted for a Republican or a Democrat before. But this week I will register Republican here in California to vote for Paul in the primary.

Thank you!

Glad for your decision!

Last time I voted Constitution Party

I would have NEVER come back to the Republican Party if it wasn't for Ron Paul.

ditto that for me!

For some reason me and the wife waited until the last day to switch from Independent to R here in NJ.
The weeks just flew by - what a close call!

So are there public records available in he closed states for people switching to R? That would be interesting indeed!

Republicans lost me - RP gets me back

I voted for the first time in 1992, against George Bush, because he signed a ban on importing a certain rifle. I then participated in the "Republican Revolution" of 1994, and thought things would change - silly me. I then cornered Rep Istook (R-OK) at a College Republicans meeting, and asked him if he would cut off funding for the BATF, post-Ruby Ridge and Waco, and he said "We are very concerned about that" (translation: you're scaring me, kid). The trigger men at both incidents were awarded, promoted, etc., and funding just increased.

Then Senator Imhoff (R-OK) came and visited me in Bosnia in the winter of 1999-2000. Sen. Imhoff said "We (Republicans) want to end all this nation building stuff - we want to bring you boys home." Of course, Sen. Imhoff votes for Bush-nation building, just not the Clinton-nation building.

Dr. Paul gets me back after years of refusing to endorse the lesser of two evils. If you voted for GW in 2000, you can claim you didn't know what he would do. If you voted for him in 2004, you have blood on your hands. I will only vote for candidates who will end this war. Dr. Paul is the only viable choice, no offense meant to Mr. Kucinich or Gravell, but I can't support socialists either.

So, I support Dr. Paul in the primary, and any other way I can. I will only vote for a Republican if he is a genuine small-government Conservative, not a Neo-Con.

Taking Over

Let's rename it the RePAULblican party.

In Liberty's Cause

LP

...been libertarian since the mid-eighties. Re-registered R to vote for Dr. Paul. After depends on how and where the freedom movement goes.

First time Republican

I am a young voter and never thought I would vote Republican until I discovered Ron Paul. I also persuaded both of my parents who have been life long Democrats to switch parties and vote for the good Dr..

new republican

In fact I'm new to politics completely. I registered republican to vote for Paul in the primaries. Whats funny is I don't think Idaho requires that I do that to vote for him in the primaries. But Yeah, I am now a registered republican. Every time Ron Paul talks about where his support is coming from I smile cause I know I'm a part of that.

Dont have to change in Texas nor all states

Dont forget not all states you have to change registration, only that you are allowed to vote in ONE primary... must take in voters registration card and your voting has been noted so you cant vote in two...

FYI:) Jan 8th is RON PAUL SIGN BOMB DAY.... please post this little ditty on all posts here and on other websites... go viral..
