The Constitution is his guide
Young Libertarian proudly out of step with his peers
Like most 15 year-old boys, Stephen Pashuck likes to compete; whether he’s kicking a soccer ball, shooting hoops or on the golf course, the Ocean City High School sophomore likes to stay active.
Separating Pashuck from the rest of the crowd, however, is a drive for limited Constitutional government and a strong support for U.S. Rep. Ron Paul.
Last week, Pashuck’s met his political idol when he was invited to meet with the 2012 presidential candidate in his Capitol Hill office.
“It was really exciting,” said Pashuck.
The leading Libertarian and 2012 presidential candidate advocates limited government, low taxes and free markets, and a return to monetary policies based on commodity-based currency. Paul, Pashuck says, never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution.
“He gave me an autographed pocket copy of the Constitution,” said Pashuck, who is already quite familiar with the document. He wishes not only that more people his age would read and study it, but that elected Congressional representatives would follow suit. “The Constitution should be followed. It’s getting ignored more and more. The president tries to use executive power too much. We need limited government, not more government.”
