New York Times Hit and Run on Ron Paul...on Christmas!
Submitted by Victoria on Tue, 12/25/2007 - 16:03
I saw a new Smear on Dr. Paul in the NY Times. I found it very upsetting.
http://themedium.blogs.nytimes.com/author/vheffernan/
Its regarding racism. Of course, they neglected to balance the smear by asking Ron Paul himself what his views are or quoting him or his staff on the subject. I wanted to respond, but they turned off the comments on this particular piece.
I am going to write to the editor of the NY Times because I think this shoddy journalism must have slipped by proper approval. If that doesn't bring about a retraction or some fair coverage then I will be writing to the advertisers of the NYT.

Disappointed that the original hit piece has not been pulled
It should have been retracted.
And who is this "Editor"? The person doesn't even have the decency to list his or her name? And where is the apology from Heffernan?
This is far from sufficient.
Virginia Heffernan
She is a TV critic for the NYT and is known for hard hitting news such as breaking the "lonelygirl15" story. She wrote for Slate and Harpers before being forced to resign because she was doing side work for the competition with out telling her employer. She also used to be a fact checker for the New Yorker before they let her go (hmmm wonder why?).
I sincerely hope she gets fired from the NYT. She is a major liability for them.
Here is a link to a picture and article about Ms. Heffernan:

The Old York Times is Admitting Defeat
The gates of the old order of the MSM are beginning to crash. If you look throughout history tension builds and within a matter of weeks or months an entire system can collapse, think of the USSR not even two decades ago. Many of the Eastern European countries overthrew their governments within a few weeks once the Red Army left.
But that was before the internet. The MSM may totally collapse on itself within days. Everything moves quicker these days. It’s a simple case of market forces producing ever accelerating access to knowledge. Eight days from now as the Iowa returns come in the old (i.e. New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, FOXNEWS, ABC, CBS, etc.), may be obsolete.
Welcome to the Free World!

I suggest as many as possible comment on this correction. Please be respectful - this is a great opportunity to show that RP has many mainstream supporters. To win we need to lose the image of a small group of crazy fanatics and the best way to do this is to show that we are not - by our actions and comments.

Pwned
They put up a retraction on the original link: "The original post should not have been published with these unverified assertions and without any response from Paul."
Also has a link to the original masterpiece, 277 comments so far. I bet that's a record for any NYT blog post.
Blog, Not NEws
This is a blog, not a news story. Opinion is allowed, it's not bad journalism.

You may be getting The New York Times, and not even know it. Many smaller local papers are wholly owned by the Times. Let them feel the power of our little movement and cancel them.
Most of the content can be accessed online anyway, and you'll be saving some trees in the process, not to mention all the gas that is wasted as the papers are delivered.
NYT=CFR=AIPAC
That will be our algebra lesson for today!
If this Country goes into a depression
The weak and the strong can not keep the same company!!
If this Country goes into a depression, the news reporters will not be able to find a rock big enough to crawl under! The Fed had better pray to god along with all these Zionist that this Country is not pulled down with all of this greed.
What would they do if we the American people say you know that 400,000 we owe you on our house, well we are just going to pay you so you can call it even because we know you collapse our dollar and conspired to Rob the American people of their money!
men in congress know they had better go along with the American people also or else it is good rid-dens to them too.
We will lock them bastards up and throw away the key!
In the past they could do this sort of thing but now we know not to believe them and millions of people are becoming aware that these people are nothing but a criminal cartel.
If the New York times were smart they would be hedging their bets and start letting the people know they are not part of this conspiracy to destroy the American dollar to form the Amero dollar.
They are exposed and their plans will have to be put back because if they bring down this Country again, you will see a million man march and it will be to get them.
These reporters need to be mindful that we are going to hold them accountable also.
Don't come back when this thing has run it's course and try to make out like you had nothing to do with it, because it won't sell this time!
good job
The first 5 comments had already set the record straight.
Listen up, if you don't already have it done, we MUST defend this campaign as soon as these hit pieces come out. This is very important.
So YOU must be ready with back up on either what Ron Paul said or something to disprove what others said.
Link to Ron Paul's speech's or other articles of responsible journalism.
A blog is not journalism, but can be just as damaging. What amazes me is what can be put out there just because of these blogs.
How many of us have hear the Bush quote ''Just a God Damn piece of paper'' This was on Capital Hill Blue. It was done on an Op-Ed piece and the Democrats have been quoting this for years. Only problem, the guy who said Bush said it has no credibility. Oh, I found this out after he had written 2 slash articles on Ron Paul, then backtracked saying someone else wrote them and he fired them.
Still there...
It's still there but it's not linked any more.
See the post on the LRC blog about it.
Clear your cache
Or you may be on a proxy server that does not update.
It's really gone.
Tried 3 Places...
I'm in DC now, can still access the page. Remoted into my PC at home (in Atlanta - different ISP), can still access the page. Tried a couple of proxy sites, like this one, and I can access it there as well.
Are you saying, when you click this link, you get a 404?
I get the article from that
I get the article from that link. Still there. :(
Still...
...it's a good sign that they removed the links to it. They obviously know something is wrong with it.
Too many subscriptions got cancelled
Finally the reader responded to the Troll who posted that smear and they took action to delete it.

Yesss! The blog piece is gone!
Amazing. At least there are some people at the NY Times with some decency and common sense.
This is the difference that the internet has made. In the past, these print publications could basically write any sort of nonsense and get away with it. Now their reputation is at stake.
SEEMS LIKE THE BLOG GOT PULLED
...
And hopefully someone got
And hopefully someone got fired.
Virginia Heffernan is the
Virginia Heffernan is the one who is responsible for that despicable article. Did she get fired or is she still working there?
What did you expect?
The NYT has already been caught twice with reporters who lied or made up stories...they have no credibility and come from the Dan Rather school of journalism, the one that promised David Rockefeller they would 'shape' the news, not report it.
we need a pillory
In the middle ages they had a great device for petty offenders - they put them in a pillory - in public for all to see. No flogging, no jail time, just a bit of shameful exposure
I think we should compile a list of these media "geniuses" and put them into a virtual pillory. Maybe some of them, if they saw what company they are in, would start thinking about their journalistic integrity.
good idea
This is a good idea. Sort of like the Bible says, instead of taking your case to judge and jury, take it to a panel of your peers consisting of Christians. I have never understood why we don't do this instead of turning ourselves over to attorneys and judges that are basically crooked. Attorneys simply take your money and usually cause you more problems than you would have had without them.
Love it

Comments are now up!
I just revisited the site and they have now printed comments made since yesterday...check it out....if you sent in a response, it may be added.
Guess they got a little pressure? Anyway, the Ron Paul supporters are out in eloquent style.
93 and not one had a good word to say to or about the NYT, Heffernan, or the article.

No, not the same newspaper that....
was paying Judith Miller to give legitimacy to the fabricated case for the Iraq war. How could it be? Let's all write to them, because the editors must not know........
Please wake up folks. What the NYT and other media outlets are doing IS their job. Their business is selling advertising, which means they work for big business, and have a vested interest in the Wall St/Washington establishment. It doesn't matter if they appear to be liberal or conservative, they're all in the same business, working for the same client corporations. And they're going to stop plugging for their corporate clients because you ask them to?
Until masses of people turn them off, and stop buying from the corporations they're advertising for, nothing will change.
very well explained, thanks
Everyone who reads this, please do 2 things:
1. Remember, always, that the mass media is OWNED by the corrupt corporate elite, who tend to be part of the MIC in this country. It is not some idealistic entity which has any kind of *duty* to you, me, or anyone else. It's *property* and is used for the purposes of its owners.
Because of that, and because of the particular agenda(s) of those owners...
2. Never, *ever* call it "mainstream"; that only legitimizes it in the minds of yourself and others. Don't use "MSM" to refer to it. The presstitutes who lie for pay every day and night don't deserve to be called "mainstream". They are corporate whores. Some (Stephanopoulos) are worse than others (Cafferty), but none can be relied upon. We are the mainstream now. We're the ones knocking on our neighbors' doors, and sending them letters, and talking to them in stores and gas stations and post office lines.
The words you use have an impact of their own. Choose ones which create the reality we want, not ones which create a harmful reality. Calling enemy propaganda "mainstream" is one of the worst things we could do.
