Did you have any good holiday Ron Paul conversations?

0 votes

I had a few good Ron Paul chats today and yesterday with family and friends. Everyone wanted to talk to me about his progress - even my Mom who is clueless about politics!

Here are my top 2:

1. My neocon neighbor said he was good on MTP and agrees with most everything he says, except pulling out of the Middle East. He knows we can't afford our bases overseas, but doesn't think we should pull everything back (he wants to have his cake and eat it, too).

2. My brother said he loves his positions, especially civil liberties. He said the MTP interview went well except that he needs to be very clear where he stands on issues. For example, he said that it wasn't completely clear as to why he opposed the Civil Rights Act.

All in all I am feeling very positive about things because it seems so many people know him now (people that I would not have expected, too).

Hunger motivates

I wouldn't serve dinner to my relatives UNTIL they agreed to vote for Dr. Paul!

Got two Christmas letters...

... the one family mentioned that their daughter and her husband now live in Ames, Iowa. I quickly fired off a pro-Ron Paul email to the "daughter and her husband."

Another Christmas letter mentioned that their youngest son is an enthusiastic supporter of Ron Paul. I sent him an e-mail to thank him for seeing to it that his support for Ron Paul got mentioned in the letter.

I was happy to tell both parties that our whole family (well-know among these two families) consists of Ron Paul junkies, without exception, down to a two-year old.

Plano TX

Interesting extended family poll

I had some saying they like Mitt and Ron Paul, some saying Huck and Ron Paul, and finally some saying Ron Paul.

In other words, this could be a very interesting Maine Caucus coming up if enough people see that Ron Paul has momentum in Iowa and New Hampshire. Concerns of who would beat Hillary in the General election came up and I let them know that there really haven't been any official polls between Paul v. Hillary but from what I hear is that he would win by a landslide.

Sneaky

My dad has been an very negative on Ron Paul so far. He is an O'Reilly watcher and thinks Paul is just a "crazy Libertarian". Anyways I sent him the Conquering the Spirit of Debt video the other day http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3051024550497129264&...
And over Christmas he couldn't stop talking about it!!!

I'm trying to plan my next attack.. any suggestions? Any video that directly mentions Ron Paul will turn him off, Hes got to come to agree with these policies on his own..

how about Freedom to Fascism?

How about America: Freedom to Fascism?

My family won't watch it (i've tried! the title scared them off).

But if your father is so interested in the issue of debt & the Federal Reserve... well, he'll see Ron Paul interviewed in there, talking about the IRS and the Federal Reserve and it just may be the thing!

(That's how I first learned about Ron Paul just over a year ago... I saw him in that film and couldn't believe a Congressman, let alone a Republican -- I thought they were all neo-cons -- was speaking out publicly!)

My Parents' Neighbors are Stealth Ron Paulites

HA! And my family thinks I'm a lone nut driving around in a car plastered with Ron Paul stickers and signs...

Yesterday evening, my folks invited over THEIR neighborhood friends for Holiday dinner and cheer. Turns out that the first to arrive was especially interested in knowing who owned the Ron Paul sign car parked out front. C'est moi. We shared our political epiphanies and had some very good conversation. Like Savois Faire, "We're everywhere."

Needless to say, it was a Merry Christmas and is looking up to be a very merry new year too!

If you are not OUTRAGED, you're not paying attention!

A couple actually

I usually don't talk politics at my girlfriend's parent's house because they don't seem to have any interest but I was looking at the local paper which showed all of the republican candidates and listed all of their issues. My girlfriend's brother in-law came over and said they all sucked. I said "not this guy" and pointed at Ron Paul. He didn't even know who he was. I told him to look over his views on the issues and he was immediately interested. It didn't mention taxes though so he asked me about that. Once he heard that Paul wanted to abolish the income tax and IRS and cut government spending he was sold. Hopefully he'll start researching him, become an addict, and start spreading the word.

Also, found out my brother who lives in another state is a Ron Paul supporter. I was surprised he even knew who Ron Paul was. Also, at lunch with my parents, aunt and uncle, my aunt brought up his Meet the Press interview. She liked what she heard and now likes Ron Paul. I couldn't believe somebody else in my family brought him up out of nowhere. It was great.

In Calls from Europe

From making the holiday calls from Europe I learned that one relative in a Florida retirement community says there were zero Ron Paul signs around the trailer park.

My mother said on the phone "He is hitting his stride too late. The primaries will be over before enough people hear about him".

Consider my Mom's remark a challenge.

And those of you in Florida, hit the retirement communities more if you can.

Well . . .

At Christmas dinner my Dad told me his is going to vote for Ron Paul! He has been a Mitt supporter because he had a hard time letting go of the "war on terror". Several weeks ago I gave up trying to argue the morality of our interventionism and instead pressed on our fiscal problems and how we can't afford to be the World's policeman.

So at Christmas dinner he said "I think I'm going to vote for Ron Paul. He is what Republicans used to be" Hahahahaha! He got it! Merry Christmas Dad, here's a real Hero for you.

That means my Mom will probably follow. And she will bring my sister and her husband along. And my Dad will probably bring my brother along.

And this is happening all over the country every day.

Peace

not much convo for me, but 1 good sign

Literally: my sister's house has a RP sign near it now. Sadly, it's up the driveway where only guests will see it, but it's still a RP sign! All our Christmas friends and family (maybe 14-18 or so) who came up the driveway for dinner had to walk in the door past it. :-)

The best part is, my sister a couple of years ago answered "yes" when I asked her if she was a socialist. (She had said that people need someone to tell them what to do.) So, I will have to chat some more with her. I have been such a zealot on "fringe" issues ("America: Freedom to Fascism" anyone??) that some of my relatives are tired of hearing my views, so I take it verrrrry easy now.

The other good news is that my parents have been in my meetup group since I started it, and my other sister and her husband are RP supporters who donated on the 16th. :-) It's harder to reach the rest of my circle, due to the aforementioned zeal, but I'll keep gently nudging.

Cognitive dissonance

Some people can't come to terms about a government or news source that routinely lies to them...so they *must believe*.

That's called cognitive dissonance.

Example

I was having a conversation with a relative of mine about the state of the economy (he's an accountant). So I was bringing up all the problems our country has about inflation, debt, etc and he just would accept it. He would use the typical "economic school" rational that everything bad has a flip side of being good for every problem I brought up. It was ridiculous.

My hubbys

family is starting to come around ( I think ) although they think we have lost our minds, because we talk about RP so much. They roll thier eyes alot when we come around, at first we thought it was a medical condition... They are for the war, they believe it is just, they think the terrorists will come over if we dont blow every muslim up, they dont understand. They watch alot of FAUX news. My hubbys step dad told him a couple of weeks ago to read a book by Haggerty and tried in vain to give him the book, you would have thought he handed him a lump of molten lava. My husband said WHAT!!! Not Haggerty!! ( that went over like a turd in a punchbowl ) anyway, today at the inlaws wasnt so bad, used duct tape to subdue the hubby. ( Just kidding ) My mom who lives on a fairly tight budget ( social security ) says she will vote for him and that RP is spot on with everything he says. She has alot more to lose and she is willing to take her chances.

2 Neocon brothers still

Believe everything they see on FoxNews or what they hear said by Rush or Hannity...or Israel is the be all and end all of human existance. Some people can't come to terms about a government or news source that routinely lies to them...so they *must believe*.

Try this...

With the Israel argument....Most evangelicals listen to people like John Hagee and think that if America doesn't 'stand' behind Israel that America will receive the curse of God.

Next time, ask your brothers this question.."Who has the power to protect Israel, God or America?"
Scripture teaches in Jeremiah 17 that 'Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust....and cursed is the man that trusts in the arm of the flesh (military might, man's protection).

Remind your brothers that as christians we are called to walk by faith and not by sight, that the same God that delivered the children of Israel from Pharoah and his army can STILL deliver the nation of Israel from all her enemies today without the help of America.

Hope this helps.

I actually think this thread

I actually think this thread would convert people by reading it =) Its inspiring.

Yep, Christmas Eve

My CEO cousin, calling five of us in Florida from Aspen, asked me how things were going for my candidate. This is a group I don't see much & they rarely discuss politics, so I thought it best for someone else to bring up.

I said things were going great -- he's rising in the polls while others fall, raising a lot more money than anyone predicted, getting more media attention now, and "I think he'll surprise a lot of people in New Hampshire." (Tonight I learned Dr Paul reached 10% in Iowa -- wish I'd known that then!) Later another cousin asked about Dr Paul in relation to her problem with taxes, which of course made further discussion easy over dinner. I mentioned liking Eisenhower, which resonated with her but not the younger crowd. Later still I handed two Slim Jims to each adult, including a third cousin who just turned 18 and said he wanted to know more.

No commitments, but four Florida adults who knew nothing before are taking a look. I've been emailing the CEO cousin all along & grateful that he brought it up since he is our most successful family member career-wise & we all respect him for it.

Made a Bet on Paul

I informed some of my cousins about Paul and got a couple of them quite interested in him but my uncle is another story. My uncle is sort of a practical business man who will admit that Ron Paul has some good ideas but doesn't support him for two reasons: 1 he "won't win" and 2 he thinks he won't be a productive president because he will just be battling congress all day. Instead he likes Romney.

Any ways, when I was debating my uncle about the chances Paul has he said he wanted to bet me 5 to 1 that Paul won't win the primary. So if Paul wins I get $50 which gives me one more reason to work for his victory (unfortunately i live in Wisconsin but still anything helps).

Stephen

I got a 100-1 in April

Yes, I bet my basketball friends $ 50 to win $5000 in April. Last week I offered to let them out of bet for $100 and put a Ron Paul bumper sticker on their cars. They said No.Future terms will only get steeper.

Christmas Dinner

My mother and father (lifelong Republicans), both in their 70's now and ideologically drifting further and further left. My mother was the first to go as the Republican Party became the tool for the Christian right and anti-choice. My father much later, as the neocons took control (he absolutely hates Sean Hannity).

My younger brother, a lifelong libertarian and registered as such here in Califronia. My sister-in-law, libertarian-leaning, but I don't know how she's registered.

My sister, lifelong democrat and what the pollsters would call "liberal."

All pro-choice (as am I, by the way.)

Of course, I had decorated the room with Ron Paul slim jims and a couple of bumper stickers.

I brought up the subject after dinner... and, here's how it went:

My father: "He's got no chance to win, whatsoever." Dismissive, boardering on contemptuous.

My brother: I agree with Ron Paul, but I'm voting the straight libertarian ticket because it's too much of a hassle to change my registration and he has no chance to win in the Republcian Party.

My sister-in-law: "He's not pro-choice."

My sister: "Dan and his Ron Paul." (rolling her eyes)

Well, after a few minutes of friendly persuasion, which was met with little enthusiasm, I left the room and went and got my laptop, which I had already turned on in the other room in anticipation of the moment.

I sat down next to my brother and showed him the AOL Straw Poll map of the United States... covered in dark green... almost all Ron Paul. I clicked on Iowa, I clicked on New Hampshire... then, I clicked on California. His reaction was immediate and startling. "I'm changing my registration and voting for Ron Paul. Dad, you should see this... Ron Paul is abolutely killing these guys in every state in the nation." My father was incredulous! "No way, what are you talking about?" I borught my laptop over and showed him. He was dumbfounded... I told him it's "one person, one vote. You will see a landslide come election day." You could almsot see the wheels spinning in his head, thinking: "You mean I don't have to vote for Obama?" Then, my brother chimed in: "You have to vote for him, Dad, he's the only one running that is for liberty and will actually do something about it."

Anybody who doesn't think that AOL Straw Poll isn't important is a fool. It is a powerful tool for convincing disaffected Republicans and lazy Libertarians that Ron Paul can win. With my brother and father seeing the light, my sister-in-law and mother will soon follow. Unfortunately, my sister won't switch for the primaries, but she'll vote for Ron Paul in the end, when he sweeps to victory in November 2008.

Merry Christmas and a Ron Paul New Year!

AOL Straw Poll is CRAZY

It's like all Ron Paul territory out
Check it out

Pays to be prepared.

These are the kind of voters that are the bread and butter of the major parties. "Easy pickings" is what the major parties figure because they won't vote for someone they're convinced (or have been convinced) can't win.

You did good.

------------------------------------------------------
The Dr's prescription: Take the red pill.

exactly...

there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, out there just like them. They don't think Ron Paul has a chance. And, if shown differently, it doesn't take much to change their minds and get their votes.

But, also, I think it is a scary scenario. This late in the game, my father, an old Goldwater Republican was initially dismissive. And, my brother, a lifelong libertarian (who voted for Ron Paul in 1988) wasn't motivated enough to change his registration. Both because they thought he has no chance of winning.

There is a LOT of work to be done just to convince people who would vote for him that they're not wasting their votes when they do so. It's a fairly easy sell, but the ocean is so vast and time so short.

My whole family has already

My whole family has already been for Ron Paul. Except I hadn't talked to my dad yet. I spoke to him Saturday and he said he would be voting for Dr. Paul so I was glad I confirmed it. My wife son and daughter are all voting for Dr. Paul. My daughter and Son will be voting for the first time (21 and 19)

my pop

I met up with my family and the very first thing my pop brought up was that he wants to donate to ron paul and has been discussing him with friends! Just a month ago he was dismissing Ron Paul because he said he was too much of a long shot. Now he is totally on board and trying to convert others. thank you baby jesus.

Today I alked with a young neighbor.

I had dropped by to visit a friend of mine today. She is 21 and has never voted. She told me she was meaning to talk to me about politics since our other friend Tommy had discussed Ron Paul with her. I recently converted him as well. She mentioned my large "Ron Paul Revolution" decals on my truck and we had a nice chat about liberty, ending the war and future wars 9and possible drafts), abolishing the IRS (that one opened here eyes wide), legalizing drugs and downsizing the federal government.

It was about a half hour conversation and I think she is on her way to voting for the first time, and it just might be Ron Paul. I told her she could be part a true revolution. I saw a spark in here eye!
