The Senate voted Friday evening to reject Speaker John A. Boehner's debt-ceiling plan just hours after it moved through the House, setting up a dramatic weekend of negotiations as Congress works to stave off a potential federal default.

The Senate tally was 59-41 on the motion to table the House plan, including some Republican votes.

Let them sink the ship...

I am convinced the only way to restore this country to prosperity is for the Rats to destroy and ride the sinking ship. The tricky part will be how to get rid of the rats as they jump to the next ship passing by.

The vote you posted was taken on July 22.

It was not the most recent Boehner debt ceiling increase bill, which just passed the House yesterday.

Vote was to Table the Bill

Rand wanted debate on the matter, so he voted not to table it.

Wy do I get the feeling

that this whole charade is public theatre and that the criminal congress critters are playing the sheeple like a fiddle?

Why would Boehner make the effort to get a bill passed that he has been told is dead on arrival?

And now Harry Reid has a bill? Hmmmmmmmm

I smell rats....lots of them

Email I sent to my congressman

Here's an email I sent to my congressman. Maybe we should all let our representatives and senators know how we feel.
Dear Mr. Campbell,
We are very disappointed in you. You voted for increasing the debt. We are tired of the government taking all our money! Will you please explain why you say that the Boehner plan CUTS spending when it does the opposite???!!!!! Cutting proposed hikes that actually INCREASE spending from the previous year is no cut at all!
Sincerely,

Cdp

Agree!!! Red Flags all over

Agree!!! Red Flags all over the place. Globe & Mal n Canada reports Lbyan Rebel leader mysterously dead.

The debt celling will go up

What the fight is over is how high it will go and will there be budget cuts. Boehner has shown what the House wants. The Senate will try to pass a bill and the two sides will work out their differences.
My guess is that the ceiling will be raised high enough that they won't need to raise it again before the election. REAL budget cuts will be less than in the House bill but more than what the Dems would like. Maybe they'll throw in a small tax increase on some oil company or other big business. The balance budget amendment may get a vote, if it does it won't pass. The big blow to liberty will be the creation of a committee that will make it easier to raise the limit in the future.

It is a charade and theatrical masterpiece of the mafia

We are witnessing the creation of a "super congress" similar to the "Triumvirate" created in the Roman Senate between 3 politically power hungry politicians : Julius Caesar,Marcus Crassius, and Pompey. Make no mistake about it that the "debt ceiling" theatricality is masking a no win situation for the United States and what lays beneath the deck of cards is an illegal formation of an uncheckable super government.Sic Semper Tyranus.

How will these rats manifest next week?

Choices:

Obama attempts to invoke:
1. 14th Amendment just raises the debt ceiling, end of story or
2. Martial Law/National Emergency and;
close down government
activate the military in this country
close down the banks/bank holiday
become the first American dictator

Obama is unleashing the troops!

But not many have heard or seen the story:

Well if that happens

May God have mercy on the poor souls who follow such orders. They will not be met with a warm welcome.

Bailing Out the Government

We saw how well the TBTF bank bailout went. Why would we even consider bailing out the greatest loser of all...the US government. When did adding another 3 trillion to the credit card start sounding like a good idea?

Awesome!

All this political bickering as we fall deeper into the economic abyss will only garner more support for Ron Paul, as he's the only candidate who actually predicted this mess and is offering real solutions.

If men are good, you don't need government; if men are evil or ambivalent, you don't dare have one.

Ron Paul should score some big time political points...

from the endless bickering. He should not let this crisis go to waste.

Absolutely!!

We have to solve this ourselves as Americans.

Both sides are going to push this to the brink and demand some higher authority to solve the artificial quagmire.

Welcome to the burgeoning soft dictatorship which has been developing for decades.

To be fair to the down votes. It was a really REALLY stupidly written bill. I read it and it made me want to vomit.
::facepalm::
