Ron Paul: Freeze the Budget and Stop Plundering the American People!

by Ron Paul | Texas Straight Talk
August 1, 2011

One might think that the recent drama over the debt ceiling involved one side wanting to increase or maintain spending with the other side wanting to drastically cut spending, but that is far from the truth. In spite of the rhetoric being thrown around, the real debate is over how much government spending will increase. No plan under serious consideration cuts spending in the way you and I think about it. Instead, the cuts being discussed are illusory and are not cuts from current amounts being spent, but cuts in prospective spending increases. This is akin to a family saving $100,000 in expenses by deciding not to buy a Lamborghini and instead getting a fully loaded Mercedes when really their budget dictates that they need to stick with their perfectly serviceable Honda.

But this is the type of math Washington uses to mask the incriminating truth about the unrepentant plundering of the American people. The truth is that frightening rhetoric about default and full faith in the credit of the United States being carelessly thrown around to ram through a bigger budget than ever in spite of stagnant revenues. If your family’s income did not change year over year, would it be wise financial management to accelerate spending so you would feel richer? That is what our government is doing, with one side merely suggesting a different list of purchases than the other.

In reality, bringing our fiscal house into order is not that complicated or excruciatingly painful at all. If we simply kept spending at current levels, by their definition of cuts that would save nearly $400 billion in the next few years, versus the $25 billion the Budget Control Act claims to cut. It would only take us five years to cut $1 trillion in Washington math just by holding the line on spending. That is hardly austere or catastrophic.

A balanced budget is similarly simple and within reach if Washington had just a tiny amount of fiscal common sense. Our revenues currently stand at approximately $2.2 trillion a year and are likely to remain stagnant as the recession continues. Our outlays are $3.7 trillion and projected to grow every year. Yet we only have to go back to 2004 for federal outlays of $2.2 trillion, and the government was far from small that year. If we simply referred to that year’s spending levels, which would hardly do us fear, we would have a balanced budget right now. If we held the line on spending and the economy actually did grow as estimated, the budget would balance on its own by 2015 with no cuts whatsoever.

We pay 35% more for our military today than we did 10 years ago for the exact same capabilities. The same could be said for the rest of the government. Why has our budget doubled in 10 years? This country doesn’t have double the population or double the land area or double anything that would require the federal government to grow by such an obscene amount.

In Washington terms a simple freeze in spending would be a much bigger cut than any plan being discussed. If politicians simply cannot bear to implement actual cuts to actual spending, just freezing the budget would give the economy the best chance to catch its breath, recover and grow.

Just the facts, ma'am.

All one has to do is read Texas Straight Talk by Ron Paul. He just tells it like it is. Some people are still scared and fooled by the propaganda machine, but if you can handle the truth Ron Paul will always give you the real facts.

To be fair, we don't pay 35%

To be fair, we don't pay 35% more for the same exact stuff,

We're waging two wars now. Plus inflation of what 25% in ten years?

From "When Money Dies"

"If you wish to destroy a nation you must first corrupts its currency. Thus MUST sound money be the first bastion of a society's defence." p. 13 Defense was spelled defence in the book.

I have so many quotes from that book and it is like reading our current news. Ron Paul has got to be President, folks, or we will be buying a loaf of bread for a wheelbarrow full of dollars.

Us poor American Folks heard you speak of a Lambogini...

"This is akin to a family saving $100,000 in expenses by deciding not to buy a Lamborghini and instead getting a fully loaded Mercedes when really their budget dictates that they need to stick with their perfectly serviceable Honda." - Dr Ron Paul, "Texas Straight Talk," August 2011.

Ron Paul juxtaposed our US National Debt & buying foreign goods we cannot afford. Not even the down payment. Yes, Ron Paul makes a simile; but, it ain't describing our kin. Folk in Missouri ain't regularly dealt those cards.

$100,000? Buying Lamborghini from Italy? ... Mercedes from Germany? ... Honda from Japan? ... Not my kin! Foreign as a roulette wheel in French Quarter, New Orleans. I seen such gambling devices; my kin ain't taken the trouble to go there.

How about paying the loan on the farm?

Imagine troubles my friends face: They are financially strapped. Their farm needs repair. Crops need care. They long for a new surrey... just a dream. Their farm needs a working buckboard... They need to afford harvesters making rounds during the fall. We got kin in the nearest town; alas, they too have no extra cash. No silver at all. Some have kin across the Big Muddy in Illinois. Their kin claim they still make horseless carriages over there. Ford & the like. Alas, they too have their troubles. One school board member brags up his banker cousin in New York City. There is talk in town about how that New Yorker might be hornswaggled into creating a loan for us folks... though we cannot pay.

I tell folks in Missouri that if'ing their fixin' to deal with a foreign land, Canada is closer. [Count last few remaining train tokens on top of Victrola cabinet.]. Too bad about that Studabaker plant.

Regards to you & your kin.

Go Ron Paul

I certainly hope all are calling their representatives to vote no.

Common Sense

is not part of the curriculum projected in the school system. So it stands to reason that the majority of our elected officials do not get it. Thanks to Dr. Paul, more citizens are beginning to realize the simplicity of a solution. Now vote your new found revelation and elect Ron Paul President. Overcome what the media projects.

This Is What The Controlled Media Networks Have Done..

They have artificially propped up the foreign markets by mis characterizing or mis labeling what really has happened. All they did was spin an outcome that never happened.

There was no freaking DEAL..

Not a damn thing has occurred to change the economic status of the United States debt.

We default everyday by printing money out of thin air. Infaltion is increasing everyday. We are in a mess and the bastard media is making things look good.

How many votes did Ron Paul pickup today...ALOT!!

I always use Ron Paul weekly updates to counter media propaganda

In his updates, Ron Paul gives much more detail than TV interviews by clueless puppets, where he is interrupted and maligned when just trying to share his message.

Weekly updates provide clear examples of how to explain things to people, and counter the corrupt media.

Obscene amounts of government - revolting who?

Is this what I get for the money (I mean debt). The people that actually work for a living, are productive and don't have banker friends that give them unlimited credit, like myself, are FED UP. Most people don't work for our parasitic government that is out of control and unsustainable.

Ron Paul once again is correct in his analysis, prognosis and remedy. When will the media come on board the good ship Liberty and accept Ron Paul's leadership for the future of this country? When will the revolution in Washington begin? Don't hold your breath Tea Party.

If I may continue ranting, I guess I am one of those fringe tin foil hat wearing voters for Ron Paul. Please stop the BS MSM people! If you disagree with Ron Paul attack the issue with intelligible points and be respectful of others and the constitution while your at it.

and then you die

I mean we haven't even had this supposed "deal" voted on, and the stock markets are going to gap UP nearly 200 points?

Now, THAT is OBSCENE.........and all gap UPs & gap DOWNs should be ILLEGAL.

Wall Street is disgusting. Cramer will be drunk on this all day long, just like CNBC jerks.

POLITICO Breaking News

President Barack Obama announced Sunday night that congressional leaders have reached an agreement to cut the deficit and avoid default and urged members of Congress to ratify it.
"Is this the deal I would have preferred? No," said the president in a brief statement from the White House. But he said it will begin "to lift the cloud of debt and uncertainty" over the economy.

Mere Promises

The Republicans have sold out the people yet again for mere promises. Really, this alleged deal is nearly a total compromise on the part of the Republican leadership and a total disgrace.

Wise words from a true statesman!

Thank you Dr. Paul for all you do.

It is ALL OBSCENE---but especially THE BIG MEDIA

Well,it seems the MEDIA just can't bring themselves to say the truth of these purported so-called "cuts". Why, they are not "cuts" at all.

It's like saying I'm going to raise the price of my house from $200k to $900k, then say I'm going to "cut" the price by $100k, so I can then take a profit of $600k.

The MEDIA IS WHO I BLAME, because they are NEVER RESPONSIBLE when it comes to the simple concept of the TRUTH........never, never, ever......

It is all hopeless, unless we have a turncoat that is a BIG ELITE wealthy billionaire who tells the truth about everything and the big joke they all have put upon the masses.

Thank You Dr. Paul

Thank You Dr. Paul..That makes all the sense in the book..

As usual he makes too much sense

Doing the sensible and responsible thing, or at least being honest enough to say 'slowing the increase' instead of 'cut' in spending just doesn't seem to be in many people's vocabulary.

Though I had a thought yesterday that perhaps they're playing these politics now because of the Iowa straw-polls coming up pretty soon? I'm not sure how this might be spun in certain camps to get more votes, but the cynic in me thinks it might play in to someone's game plan...

"Just freeze the spending". . . the simplicity and the wisdom of

Ron's diagnosis/remedy are breathtaking!

To match 2011 revenue of $ 2.2Trill, we can either go back to 2004 fed outlay ($ 2.2Trill) and balance the budget now or

Freeze at present level . . . and be balanced by 2015.

This way we can avoid bickering over which pet-projects to cut.
