Rand Paul pushing for vote of no confidence in Tim Geithner

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul announced early Wednesday morning that he plans to push the Senate to hold a vote of no confidence in Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

Unlike in the United Kingdom’s Parliament, where a no confidence vote would remove him, a U.S. Senate vote of no confidence would be a symbolic measure that sends a signal to the president.

“The stock market gave a vote of no confidence to Timothy Geithner yesterday and for the past 11 days,” Paul said in a statement. “Geithner has shown no acumen in predicting, diagnosing, or treating America’s economic woes. The time has come for him to resign.”

Whenever...

I see Geithner testify I always envision a plate with a big chunk of swiss cheese on it. I hate dat guy, definitely makes it onto the top 10 of my Cheney list. Geithner, Benny & the rest just a bunch of Washington shit covered monkeys.

9/11 was an inside job .....time to get some answers..RP 2012

He does look like a rat.

He does look like a rat.

Disagree

Geithner is likely a brilliant technocrat. He is of course an agent of a flawed policy, but if you are hiring someone to tell a lie, you want the best liar possible. Or if you have a task that you know will fail, you want to hire the guy whos best able to delay the inevitable. Geithner may well be that man.

Geithner says he's staying. I hope that is just another lie!

Geithner says he will stay at Treasury
Geithner informs President Obama that he will stay as Treasury secretary
Martin Crutsinger, On Sunday August 7, 2011, 4:17 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Timothy Geithner has told President Barack Obama that he will remain on the job as Treasury secretary, ending speculation he would leave the administration.

The Treasury Department released a statement Sunday saying Geithner had informed the president of his decision to remain in the administration.

Geithner is the only remaining top official on Obama's original economics team.

And now..

He should call for Bernanke jail time.

Geithner did NOT vote

to hand the government over to a rogue outfit.
He just did his job. How did Rand vote? Any list out there?

SteveMT's picture

"He just did his job."

The former president of the NY Fed just did his job, indeed, but what was his job?

Who is this guy working for? Where were all of the warnings to the American People? Where was all of the complaining to Obama and the economists in the government about the sad state of this economy and what to do to fix it?

This guy is not very proactive.

The people spoke in 2008

I have to go along for the ride.
So does Timmy

SteveMT's picture

"How did Rand vote?"

You just answered one of your own questions.
Rand Paul couldn't vote on this in 2008 because he was not elected until 2010.

Timmy is not behaving very well, IMO, but with a teacher like Bernanke, no wonder.

I agree! ...However, until we vote Obama out, nothing is going

to change. We had Paulsen in the Bush Administration and he wasn't any better. The next one will probably come from Goldman Sachs again. So it's like putting a bandaid on a crack in the Dam. As long as Obama is president, all your going to get at Treasury is another failure.

Either way

There will be a mess of these folks fired once we get our Republic back.

Odd that there would be a

Odd that there would be a typo in the press release.

MITT ROMNEY: STILL UN-ELECTABLE
I will be out of town the week of May 21st.

The fight is on. Hold your

The fight is on (politically speaking of course). Hold your ground. This head-on position is long overdue. If you can't stomach the truth or support what the world knows to be true...then step aside and let the new champions of the American people be acknowledged while there's still a US to protect & defend.

geithner

there are other toastmasters that should be out.. gretchen morgenson nyt wrote a great tale about all this ..agree with a comment below ..s and p was derelict rating the mbs trash.. s and p answers to who ???? and some think that a downgrade is a targeted ploy to undermine our military ..

I'm not a fan of this.

This is why- it appears to lay blame at one person's feet. And when he resigns (which it sounds like he was already planning to do) it will then create the illusion that "we the people" received some kind of "resolution" or "justice".

Now if Rand had laid out a whole long list of people who should resign, I could get with that....

This whole event (the downgrading) seems orchestrated to me. Does anyone really think S&P would downgrade the U.S. without the green light from the way, way, way higher-ups?

Absolutely

This is just one little step in our masters greater plan for World Government and total slavery.

I think the positioning of Rand is very clever. They have obviously decided to brand Rand differently to Ron.

Rand got to Washington and he has started a little more as an insider. I have no doubt he agrees with Ron on all important issues but it is more effective to play along a bit and to get some attention on some different issues than Ron.

I like it!

Agree with you there.

This must be tactical.

Didn't this guy already

Didn't this guy already resign? Gave notice? What is going on here..?

Just a thought but isn't

Just a thought but isn't Geithner, Janet Napolitano and other notables going to be on a super committee aligning with the governor's council. I may have the details wrong here but If Geithner is banished from his position as Secretary Treasurer, wouldn't that preclude or better yet nullify his participation and involvement in this other under-reported power elite council?

well, he said he might resign

"no final decision". So he my have anticipated this, too.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it."

He said he would leave when

He said he would leave when the debt cap was raised, so it was raised. What is Rand trying to even do?

Aye

Aye, aye!!!

Traitor Geithner resign or we WILL AMEND the constitution! Specifically, Article 3. Specifically, we will punish for corruption of blood and send a message to you socialist oligarchs!!!!

Geithner resign or face attainment!

it really is great timing.

it really is great timing. Senate and congress need to get aggressive and do what they can before this super congress goes into effect..

ytc's picture

Great timing!

Geithner and the entire Obama Admin should take the responsibility for conspiring with the majority of the Congress & Senate to miss the opportunity to freeze & reduce the spending.

Only Tea Party fiscal conservatives insisted on freeze & (true) cut budgets, which would have changed the course of USA fiscal trajectory.

This demand for G's resignation can be used to highlight that fact. Great move by Rand!

Good call on

Rands behalf. Rand is the man! Tax cheat Timmy should go!

Unfortunately, Geithner will be promoted as he has succeeded beyond his masters' wildest expectations.
