Rasmussen: Only 17% Say U.S. Government Has Consent of the Governed
Submitted by bobbyw24 on Mon, 08/08/2011 - 07:18Fewer voters than ever feel the federal government has the consent of the governed.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 17% of Likely U.S. Voters think the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-nine percent (69%) believe the government does not have that consent. Fourteen percent (14%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here .)
The number of voters who feel the government has the consent of the governed - a foundational principle, contained in the Declaration of Independence - is down from 23% in early May and has fallen to its lowest level measured yet.

That no Republic could properly operate with a population of over 100,000. That's less than most counties. We lost our Republic a longtime ago. It's mob rule now.

There's
quite a lot of interesting data in this poll. For instance:
"...Most voters across the demographic board believe the average congressman listens to their party leaders more than the people they represent.
Voters also are more convinced than ever that MOST CONGRESSMEN ARE CROOKS..."
Also, most voters want to dump ALL incumbents, want Congress to take a pay cut until the budget is balanced, and a plurality also want Obama to take a pay cut. A majority of voters disapproved of how BOTH SIDES handled the debt debate.
Thanks, bobby, for sharing this.

the Constitution provided for 1 representative for ....
every 40,000 people, and now we have 435 locked in!? (1:80,000?+)
It's no wonder people feel this way, they feel it because it is true!
And that is not even to consider the protection against 'mob rule' the Founders provided by allowing the state legislatures to choose the Senate, as opposed to the 'popular vote' method used now.

Your math is way off...wish it were true... (1:758,620)
330 Million people, with 435 representatives comes to JUST ONE REPRESENTATIVE FOR 758,620 PEOPLE. We are coming close to a world where one supposedly "elected official" will pretend to represent a MILLION persons.
If that doesn't dilute the power of the people, and the Constitution that protects them, I'm not sure what would.
MIssed a whole place value here?! I must be in dire need of...
a real vacation! Thanks for spotting this!

This was an interesting poll
This was an interesting poll from an interesting group. Congress has 6% that think they are good. Wow.
The poll must have been heavy
on friends and extended family of congress.

Glad to hear it.
The awakened, even the late risers, are welcomed here. Of course some of these are just discovering that government may NOT be able to provide for them from cradle to grave and they're pissed about it.
New Hampshire and Ecuador.
Well they will soon realize
without the 'payers' there are no payees.
