people don't be upset

Ron Paul has won this! think about it.

Let's win where it counts

The money race!! We bested Bachmann last quarter, Let's do it again! Who's up for a MONEY BOMB?!!?!!

Slick Rick Perry

Yall remember what Ron said about Perry entering the race at the debate? If Perry would have brought his Nazi ass to Iowa he would have diluted Bachmanns straw poll votes. With that in mind this is a solid victory for us.

Liberty or Death

New false flag

Expect a new false flag attack if Perry doesn't get support from the voters. They will stop at nothing. Everybody put on those bumper stickers and/or magnets. Talk to people in lines, parking lots, elevators, parties. Keep it up, we are going to win this. Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come. RON PAUL 2012 !!!!!

some of the other's told their people to take one for the team and vote for bachmann, could that be why the #s for 2nd 3rd are so low? I don't know but I say Ron Paul has won this!

I call BS

Ron Paul Got 1st place
What the HELL is : 0.96% (162 votes) – "Scattering" ?????

Kinda f-uped that that's pretty much how many votes Ron Paul didn't win by!!

I feel ya...we want to WIN IT

I feel ya...we want to WIN IT ALL! We did last time as well. However, strategically this is SO MUCH better. Why? Because if Ron had got first place, they would have dismissed the poll, real Americans(Iowans) would be hurt financially in the future because the media would say..."the Iowa straw poll doesn't matter." Instead Bachmann barely won, but they cannot diss the poll because she won...they said she would win...and Ron gets validation from this as second place. Americans may be duped at times, but are not stupid.

This is actually the best outcome strategically. This is very good news and a good feedback loop for us knowing that our support system is strong and organization has TRUE depth.

Who is John Galt? Vote ███ ███ 2012!

Yep ...

... You look at the straw poll results of all other Iowa straw polls in the past and you don't see any "scattering" ... OBVIOUSLY a fixed straw poll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not true

1987 had an "other" category, which is what "scattering" presumably is.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

When I came of voting age, elections could be rigged...

Rigged quicker then a whole crew could rig a Yankee Clipper ship. Now that we have automated the election mess with electrical tabulating contraptions, it seems no longer true. It seems to take overnight & into the next evening.

Can you imagine a world sailing along with the speed, grace & craftsmanship of the Yankee Clipper?

Some optimism

Bachmann is a neocon. Ron Paul is the only non-neocon contender in this race. The others will split the neocon vote.

Bachmann carries a lot of baggage. Her former chief of staff has come out against her. She suffers from debilitating migraines and is popping pills. Her husband's "pray the gay away" antics are just weird. Did he pray his own gay away? It wouldn't matter to me but it would to the religious right who are Bachmann's natural support base. Then there is her IRS past. And her former church's views on the Pope as anti-Christ.

Palin might enter the race. Is there room enough for two tea-party women? More vote-splitting -- too bad, Michelle. But good for us!

Romney is a deeply flawed candidate. He is only front-runner because he is hiding from scrutiny. Romneycare is his Achilles heel. His countless flip-flops and establishment credentials will not play well in this political climate.

Perry seems to be the choice of the power elite. I believe this was decided long ago (sorry, Romney -- you are a decoy). But Perry is also deeply flawed. He was in Merck's pocket, Governor Gardasil, the man who tried forcing little girls to be injected with a vaccine that has caused numerous deaths as well as debilitating illnesses. He was also Al Gore's man in Texas during the 90s. All the oil money in the world isn't going to erase this record. Welcome to the age of YouTube, Rick!

Then there are the rumors about Perry's private affairs (hint: he might want to ask Marcus Bachmann to pray for him). I don't know if they are true, but someone is sure to find out now that he is in the race. Such personal attacks are horrible, but then so is Rick Perry. His "Christianity," which he wears on his sleeve, is as phony as it gets.

Americans love their wars, yes. But when they are presented with a choice between getting their jollies from bombing Muslims and getting their Social Security checks in the mail, they will turn into latter-day George McGoverns, and fast.

Who is the only anti-war candidate in this race?

(Maybe I am giving too much credit to boobus republicanus, but this is my "optimistic" post, so indulge me.)

Perry will siphon off a multiude of Bachmann voters.

So in the next straw poll, Paul will be the one on top.

The corrupt media probably made a difference

All the attacks, slandering, and lies.

But it didn't make much of a difference! The media is becoming less and less relevant.

The vote counters made the biggest difference, IMO.

Scattered votes = hanging chads = the fix is in again.

With the delay in the announcement came the "fixers."

We need to get to work

On explaining RP does not want Iran to get nukes, he only said he understands why they would want them, and it's not our job to invade them based on suspicion and propaganda. The neoconservatives are really milking that one.

The neocons can't even

The neocons can't even explain why they want to bomb Iran. They consider it to be self-evidently necessary. Just because. Anyone who disagrees, they call names. A real intellectual bunch, these neocons.

One thing I find interesting is...

Why is it okay for America to have the right to get nukes, but not another country? I would love all the establishment candidates to answer this question. What makes America so different and so special that it deserves to be an exception? And what gives America the right to tell others what rights they have, which obviously differ from the rights America has? Interesting philosophical questions that should be asked to them.

It's true. However, we will

It's true. However, we will lose a lot of support if we bring up that argument. Being anti war, I think our best position is, the fewer countries with nukes, the better. Even I get a little chill when I think of Iran with nukes, and I haven't been a neocon for 7 years. I mean think about it. The media burned it into our brains.

So I understand why they would want them. It's only natural. I think RP also hopes they don't get them. It's just not our job to attack them over it. Do you agree?

Yes, and if people, neocons included, do not want Iran to make a nuke, then the best way to discourage the incentive for them to do so is to stop the neocon isolationism of Iran. The neocon policy is iosolationism. End the sanctions. Resume trade, dialogue and diplomatic realtions. Stop surrounding them with threatenting military bases, missiles, aircraft carrier groups.

Let it not be said that we did nothing.-Ron Paul
Stand up for what you believe in, even if you stand alone.-Sophia Magdalena Scholl

and the US is the only country

that ever used a nuclear weapon. No one seems to be saying that!

Was there a "scattering" section in the 2007 Straw Poll? What is that? Shouldn't that have to be explained since it is a significant number of votes? What goes on here?

That is where they took RP

That is where they took RP votes and scattered them around so he would get 2nd.

Supposedly those are votes for other write-ins like Mickey Mouse and Superman.

I want to see ...

... the list of those "scattered" write in votes .... like who they are for .... but we'll probably never see that list.

Joη's picture

kind of

not here: http://theiowastrawpoll.org/history.php , but in 1987 there was an "others" category according to Wikipedia. Can't find any older history at the moment.

"You underestimate the character of man." | "So be off now, and set about it." | Up for a game?

I don't know

if anyone put this one yet. In 2007 they read all of the results. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM5Lp0zIo9M

Ron Paul coming in second in this STRAW POLL is the best outcome possible any of us could have hoped for and i'll explain why:

We all know Ron Paul is the best, but there are a lot of undecided voters out there, and these voters are extremely influenced by the media. And the media has always tried to discredit Ron Paul in any way possible, and one way has been by discrediting the straw polls he won. And recently, the talk certainly has been how "If Bachmann or Pawlenty wins, the poll is legitimate, but if Paul wins, this poll isn't useful anymore".

Had Ron Paul won the poll, they would have discredited the poll. But instead, he came in a very very close 2nd while absolutely destroying the rest of the pack in votes.

And because of this, the media is between a rock and a hard place and either:

1. They don't discredit the poll in which Ron Paul literally finished on par with Bachmann, surpassed expectations by far and away and destroyed the rest;
2. Or they either discredit the poll to discredit Ron Paul, BUT they do it at the expense of discrediting Michelle Bachmann (who they have been propping up since day 1)

And it's for this reason i believe they can't discredit it. They won't get away with discrediting Michelle Bachmann. And so people will see Ron Paul as a top-tier candidate and, more importantly, as an electable one as they consider Bachmann one and he finished literally on par with her and so this HAS to have a positive impact on his campaign and momentum and one in which it is difficult for the media to intrude on.

Of course they'll do whatever they can to discredit Paul. But what i'm saying is that with this result it is much much harder and for this reason, i think this result fits his campaign perfectly.

I had the same thought when I heard the result.

I totally agree! This has worked out to Ron Paul's great advantage.
