I venture To say many of Obamas supporters are felonies

It takes one to vote for one..

I have a question. If someone

I have a question. If someone has an answer, I would appreciate it. If someone is a felon, and happens to have somehow slipped through the cracks and is able to vote, and is registered Republican, should that person try to be a delegate or focus on finding someone a bit, shall we say, cleaner?

I would imagine....

That since a felon is not suppose to be able to vote in the first place...that they obviously shouldn't be a delegate.

Assuming this felon was supporting a "party backed" candidate, the officials might look the other way...but if this felon was supporting anyone else...the officials might use any means available to remove that support.

Personally, I would advise staying within the bounds of the law..which means this felon should just be glad that they are no longer in prison and abide by the law of the land...
But assuming the felon doesn't listen to me...it not only could present an embarrassing situation to the candidate that was being supported should the truth come to light, but also, since lodging, ect at the RNC is generally funded by the delegate themselves...could turn out to be costly to the delegate.

Just my opinion....

Kinda what I wanted to hear.

Kinda what I wanted to hear. I have wrestled with the issue for a little while and have felt guilty for not going all out and seeking to become a delegate, but knew that I might cause more harm than good. Good to be validated. Thanks for the reply. It was helpful.

Everyone messes up from time to time...

So being a delegate is out...but that just means you'll have more time to talk to someone...get them to think...and possibly THEY might become the delegate. =)

We all do our part...and each of us has a different part to play =)

Much love and respect!

Its normal for rival cadidates

To try and find things to disqualify other candidates delegates this was pretty common with Hitlery and oBummer in 07 but I guess its a matter of someone finding out. Anyway I dont think its a capital crime if you try.

You see what delegates did for herman Munster in Florida?

Delegates, delegates and more delegates!!

For those that don't know what a delegate does.

What is a delegate?

Delegates are individuals chosen to represent their states at their party conventions prior to a presidential election. The rules for selecting delegates, which are dictated by the parties, can be dizzying—the guidelines vary not only by party, but by state, and sometimes by congressional district. A party might grant additional delegates as a reward if a state has a recent history of supporting that party, for example. In other cases, delegates might simply be allocated to a state based on the percentage of votes that state is granted in the Electoral College.

Interviewed for my Precinct Chair

I thought it was going to be a 1-on-1 with the County Chair interviewing me for an appointment to my vacated Precinct Chair, wound up being a 4 on 1 interview.

Interview was going well.

but I was nervous and rambled a bit, but when I was asked: What policy do you not like of Obama's , I should have said individual mandate. But that seemed generic answer I went on to answer with something about over spending and how even though we are flat broke he keeps coming up with some quarter-trillion-dollar Jobs Bill like every 3 weeks. and how government money is the only way to do things. I did ramble a bit, but it was my first time in such an interview.

then they asked about that I disagree about the Republican platform. I read that as "what don't I like about the republican party" Because WHO memorized and found fault with the platform, I knew it existed, but I answered that the GOP is generally dismissive of science. The main lady I think took offense, they tried to ask if by "science" I meant "creationism", which is half true, but I really meant it in a broader spectrum like hostility towards Space programs, stem cells, and stuff like that.

Really didn't like that answer, but in the car on the way home I was kicking myself for not saying "Drug policy". Like not wanting to spend $350,000 to incarcerate someone caught with a $5 joint in their car. Or banning hemp cultivation.

I hope I didn't ruin it for myself. But they did have a curious look when they asked which candidate my political philosophy were similar to, I said Ron Paul, and I said he is who attracted me to the party and how my views on everything from FEMA to Intervention policy changed due to what he had to say and that I really respected him.

Let me tell ya when I answered "Ron Paul" there was like a flinch/ mili-second eye bulge amongst my interviewers, maybe I should have said Perry or Romney just to get the job and try to work libertarian views into the local debate. But I would have physically felt I'll having to say "I liken my philosophy to Rick Perry" I couldn't live with myself.

Wow, my precinct didn't even have a chair

so I paid the dollar they asked for and signed up with no questions asked of me at all. I wish it were that easy to sign up to be a delegate though - talk about stonewalling. It's such a tight-knit group of country club geezer republicans where I am but I will renew my efforts.

I would think..

it's not proper of them to ask which candidate(s) you favor...

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

They asked me what my political philosophy was, I was struggling to anwser that HUGE of a question, so one of the interviewers asked what GOP Candidate I have a similar philosophy. As in to find someone who would sum it up for me rather than me going point by point on every issue.

it wasn't exactly asking whom I favored.

I can understand..

them asking for you to articulate your political philosophy. If only for the reason they would prefer representatives who are articulate/skilled to represent the party well.

The only use of asking which candidate you favor is to stack the deck for or against a certain candidate. I would have said Reagan just to get them to move on. Like Ron Paul I liked Reagan's *message*(smaller less meddlesome govt)... :)

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

ah yes, the old Reagan line.

Yeah, there was even a photo of Reagan above the interviewer. Missed opportunity.

Didn't get chosen.

What state and county are you in?

We need to let the people in your state and county know what you went through so they can be prepared when applying for precinct positions.

Sorry to hear that

They are trying to screen out Ron Paul people no doubt, are there any elected delegates in your area? I know in my area we elect precinct delegates at the caucus.

Thoughts? My thoughts are wth?

In my SC precinct, I was "elected" not "appointed"...so bizarre!

I need to know

and I am sure I should already know this. If in your state the primary election results are for Perry or Romney, etc... Do you as a delegate have to vote for that person?

Formerly rprevolutionist

Which state?

In most states delegates are bound to a certain candidate for the first round or two of voting. And it is exceedingly rare for a Convention to go past the first round. I only know of two instances in history. Once for Lincoln and once in the democrat party in the 50's or 60's.

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

If you want Ron Paul to win??

Then, this is the way to do it. Become a delegate!

Can we

do a donational ticker just for the deligates, to help with expences, and maybe beyond. I don't think the campaign will do this and if they do it won't be done right. If we contribute to these guys/girls and build up a fund just for them I'm also sure we will get more of them................................................................what was it, if you subsidize it you get more of it.

To be honest....

The cost (atleast in my state) was next to nothing.
1- a phone call to request the signature sheets
2- my time to collect signatures
3- $6.00 to have my sheets notorized
4- Postage to send the sheets in to Board of elections

((I actually paid for business cards to be made up to hand out because in my state you get put on the ballot during the Primaries, so I thought it would help with keeping my name in their minds...but that was totally optional))

So in reality it cost very little to become a delegate.

The expense comes in when/if you actually become delegate and then you have to go to the Republican National Convention. The transportation, lodging, and meals are all on you.

What state are you in?
