Comment of the Year, by Sergeant Lewis: (Paul's stance on Iran/foreign policy)
Ron Paul was called a "kook" today, concerning his stance on Iran, in the comment section of an article at THE HILL entitled "Ron Paul shines in Iowa; major media cheats him." Follows Sergeant Lewis' response to said comment:
I am a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. I support Ron Paul and I support his foreign policy. I am sure you would not dare call me a Paultard to my face.
No, you would give me the same parroted line I hear 100 times a day, "Thank you for your service". When I hear some flabby couch potato like you say that to me it makes me sick. Yes, I serve our country, but our wars do not.
I do my best to keep my men alive while we carry out this sick policy of sticking our noses in other peoples business. When was the last time you had a friend die in your arms or look for the leg that was just blown off of the man next to you? When was the last time you walked past dead children that were killed by U.S. weapons? I'm glad you can sleep at night, because many times I cannot. I have children myself you self righteous SOB. If someone killed my children you can bet I would do everything in my power to seek revenge.
You dare call me rabid and blind? I know what I am talking about. Why don't you grab a gun and head to Iran if you want to fight them so much. Ron Paul is right. They are no threat to us. We need to mind our own business. They hate us not because we are rich and free, they hate us because we are in their countries.
It is people like you that are the biggest threat to this country, not Iran.

As a defense contractor I know that the money spent overseas is not going to our soldiers, it is going to companies like mine. SAIC, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc...they get the money. When I was in Iraq I was at my work site protected by the soldiers who's duty was to fight anyone who might try to get to me and my co-workers. I was paid close to ten times what they were being paid. Their solution for pulling out of Iraq? Replace those soldiers with other contractors who are paid to do the same, probably making 4-5 times what they were making. Same money pouring in to guys like me but they get to say that they are pulling the troops out. They were there to protect us, we were there writing software and working on hardware to protect them. All the while the bigwigs making millions back in the states reaped even more reward.
My job is safe, there will always be war. But I would love for Ron Paul to put me out of a job. For the sake of the country, and my children's future.

Thats what I've been telling pro war cowards.
all over the internet making them look weak and scared, like little (pardon) bitches, so scared they are willing to KILL mothers fathers and children from both sides so they can hang an american flag on their porch and scream america fuck yea. it's sick how people willingly IGNORE the consequences of war to peoples lives. I think tool's "Vicarious" sums up this sickness planted by in government into the human psychology of the past century.
"Vicarious"
Eye on the TV
'cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavour
It happens to be like;
Killed by the husband
Drowned by the ocean
Shot by his own son
She used the poison in his tea
And kissed him goodbye
That's my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies
Don't look at me like
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
But with the other
Stare like a junkie
Into the TV
Stare like a zombie
While the mother
Holds her child
Watches him die
Hands to the sky crying
Why, oh why?
'cause I need to watch things die
From a distance
Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies
You all need it too, don't lie
Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
Neither the brave nor bold
The writers of stories sold
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
I need to watch things die
From a good safe distance
Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so
Why can't we just admit it?
Blood like rain come down
Drawn on grave and ground
Part vampire
Part warrior
Carnivore and voyeur
Stare at the transmittal
Sing to the death rattle
La, la, la, la, la, la, la-lie
Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men.
Pull your head on out your hippy haze and give a listen.
Shouldn't have to say it all again.
The universe is hostile. so Impersonal. devour to survive.
So it is. So it's always been.
We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously I, live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I

If anyone has contact info to this "SgtLewis" please contact me. I would love to get a statement on camera for future use.
I went to the linked article
I went to the linked article and subsequent discussion. It seems Sgt Lewis was responding to one Brian Barton. Barton responded back to this message from Lewis, and his response was rather sad, to say the least. He claims (and sounds very convincing in later posts and argumentation) that he is a double amputee Marine, having lost limbs in Iraq. And he serves up some rather insulting prose to Sgt. Lewis, who i did not see respond after the above.
The feeling I got while reading Mr. Barton's responses (they are numerous to many RP supporters) was that he had suffered and sacrificed so much, that the thought of it all being for naught (or an outright lie) was too much to handle. It broke my heart to read his foolishness parading as strength.
Excellent letter. I
Excellent letter. I wholeheartedly support our troops but I do not support these never ending wars. I served on many of the military installations around the world during my career. The cold war is over and many of the Warsaw Pact countries now belong to NATO. It is time we scale back -- or stop our involvement altogather -- in the affairs of other countries and bring out troops home. Our military installations overseas should be turned over to the respective countries and let them provide for their own protection. Our troops should be stationed in this country, rested with their families, and equipped with the finest weapons and training possible. They should not be deployed anywhere without a declaration of war by the Congress.
A Letter To Hannity
Sounds like a letter to Sean Hannity, that great American
I am also an enlisted member...
I support Ron Paul wholeheartedly and so does a lot of guys I know. Though, I've been one of the lucky few to not have to go overseas in support of our "war on terror" I have spent 2 years in South Korea helping to defend them against a starving people with no technology. I've spent those 2 years away from my Wife and 4 kids.
ALL of the other candidates are the same war-mongering bafoons and most of the military are sick of it. I will do EVERYTHING in my power to help this great human being and champion of liberty get elected. The thing is, us active duty cannot legally "support" a certain presidential candidate which makes it more difficult for activism.
I too cannot stand that same parroted line "thank you for your service". That has to be changed or stopped. Maybe "thank you for your sacrifices" or something because "service" in my eyes isn't what we are doing right now. I joined before 9-11 to serve my country NOT to serve corporations.
I've seen on many forums lately people asking the question in regards to the cut in military spending "what will the troops do if they come home because we cut spending?" To which I retort "there was a military before 9-11 and we had jobs then."
BRING US HOME DR. PAUL!!!!

Get Media to Discuss Which Mil Ranks Donate to RP
Vinnie, right on. I've not check your profile to see how long you've been a DPer. Nonetheless, welcome to the DP.
You might find my post I wrote the other day interesting. It's about contacting key media people such as the Judge, Stoss, Adam K, The American Conservative magazine and other media outlets to discuss which rank in the military donate to RP. I think it wouldn't be surprising who donates the most to RP.
Here's the link:
http://www.dailypaul.com/173977/military-members-donations-w...
Here are a few lines from my short, to-the-point post:
Here's something not discussed in the news: the break down of military rank contributing to whom.
A private, a captain, a general?
Just which rank and, if possible, personnel are contributing money to which presidential candidates?
Thanks, Vinnie, and take care.
School's fine. Just don't let it get in the way of learning. -Me
Best line:
Yes, I serve our country, but our wars do not.
SO GLAD to see that - thank you Sgt. Lewis. I feel the same way when I see those yellow ribbon "Support Our Troops" magnets on people's cars.
I live in the South - the wars are the only thing keeping us safe, so I am told, ad nauseum.
Come home safe Sergeant.
“The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.” Ron Paul - The Revolution
So true
I also live in the South (NC) but was raised, and still have my parents, in the midwest. We hear all the time of our soldiers' sacrifices and the need to support them. I hear, over and over and over again, that we must protect our interests "at home, and abroad."
I have even thanks countless soldiers for their service--just like Sgt. Lewis states.
I hope he understands that so many of use that phrase for lack anything else appropriate just like at a funeral. What I'd really like to say is what you mention above. The ribbons, the flag waving, the "support our troops" ad nauseum is so distracting to what is really going on. And that is...we should not be over there in the first place.
So what I really mean to say is: "Thank you for risking your life for a needless war." But that would be too truthful and too hurtful for someone who is serving their country honorably and with respect.
Come home safe, Sergeant Lewis.

Spread Letter and its Implication, Which Mil. Ranks Support RP
It's great to see military members speak out. Keep it up!
I wrote a post on this subject a few days ago. Here's the link to it: http://www.dailypaul.com/173977/military-members-donations-w...
What I wrote is short. It's about finding out which which ranks of military members are donating to Ron Paul.
Here are the last two paragraphs:
"1) Are the bulk of donors for Ron the guys and gals in the field?
2) Are the donors for any other candidate, including Obama, generals and other high ranking members -- you know, the people ordering the guys and gals in the field what to do?
"Let's see if Adam Kokesh can get this information. Adam, if you're reading this post, can you get this info? If he's not reading it, maybe someone who's got an inroad to him can talk about this issue with him."
If any of you guys have access to the Judge, Stoss, Adam K., Jack Hunter, Dan McCarthy at The American Conservative magazine, Lew Rockwell, Tom Woods and anyone else in the media, send them this idea: which ranks and, if possible, the number of people in them who support Ron? It just might peak their interest. If it does, it probably will invite more and more military members to donate and voice their support for Ron Paul.
Adam might be a great outlet for this information considering his military experience and his show's format, that there are few commercials (if any), where meaningful discussions can take place.

My email about this article and comment.
Support our Troops; Support Ron Paul
Among the many surprising facts about Ron Paul that do not get reported by the mainstream news media is the fact that he has received far more donations from active military service personnel than any other candidate for president (including their Commander-In-Chief, President Obama). In fact he receives more than all of the other GOP candidates COMBINED!
This actually continues a trend seen during his 2008 campaign for president when he was competing against that decorated war veteran and media darling Senator John McCain.
To listen to his critics, his proposed foreign policy of a non-interventionist, peaceful America is sheer lunacy.
Specifically, candidates like Rick Santorum, find Ron Paul's (and the CIA's) theory of "blowback" as being the cause of our unending Middle East conflicts as just plain "crazy" and suicidal.
The following was an article written today by another blogger who finds the media coverage of Ron Paul to be horribly biased. And buried in the comments following the article is a clue as to why Ron Paul enjoys such strong support within the active military ranks.
Ron Paul shines in Iowa; major media cheats him
But one of the commenters about this article had a very moving and dramatic response to the others who labeled Ron Paul and his supporters as "Paultards" and tried to portray his foreign and military policies as extreme. (I cannot verify the identity of this commenter. He may or may not be who he claims to be. But see if what he says does not ring true.)
Maybe THIS is the kind of soldier that is keeping the donations rolling in to Ron Paul's campaign.
But you will never hear him being interviewed by Fox News or CNN.
Why?
Because he does not fit the stereotype of the American soldier that the political establishment would like to project.
He is a true patriot who is ready to fulfill his duty to his country, but questions the wisdom of the mission he has been given by the beltway politicians.
It is easy for armchair generals and "chicken hawk" politicians like Obama, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, and Michelle Bachmann to talk about the grand missions of policing the world, nation building, and spreading "democracy".
But it is men like "Sgt. Lewis" that will ultimately pay the price for their failed foreign policies-- in broken marriages, lifelong disability, delayed careers; in life, limb, and fallen comrades.
And they would be more than willing to do it if it were truly necessary to maintain our freedom and safety.
But what if it isn't?
What if all of the blood and the trillions of dollars that we are pouring into the endless wars are doing nothing but making us LESS safe, LESS free?
What if all it is accomplishing is to support the massive industrial/military complex that President Eisenhower warned us about fifty years ago?
What if we create another terrorist for every one that we kill or capture.
What if we create ten "terrorists" for every innocent civilian killed as collateral damage?
What if the Al Qaeda terrorists have long since been replaced by men who consider themselves freedom fighters, defending their own homeland from an invading global empire or avenging the death of a child, brother, father or mother?
What if the specter of hordes of "Islamo-fascists" sweeping across the world in a global jihad is a product of neoconservative propagandists trying to demagogue their way to political power?
What if THIS is the reason that the greatest military power in the history of the world has been bogged down in the longest and most expensive war in its history, with no victory in sight, without even a clear definition of what victory would be?
What if we have set upon an endless cycle of death and revenge that can never end in anything but tragedy, for us or our "enemies"?
What if Ron Paul and Sgt. Lewis are right, and all of the warmongering politicians are wrong?
In that case it is high time that we had the guts and wisdom to admit that we were wrong.
Time to stop mistaking knee jerk support for ALL wars, ANY war, as "patriotism".
Time to stop wasting the most precious resource of our nation; the lives of our young fighting men.
Time to elect a leader who truly can and would change the ruinous course of our country.
Time to REALLY support our troops.
Time to elect Ron Paul as President of the United States.

Sergeant Lewis is a great American Patriot.
Thank you for this letter.
I work for a major airline unloading aircraft and I can't tell you how many dead soldiers we used to fly home before Bush put an end to commercial airlines transporting Americin soldiers' bodies.
He did this because it was causing too much public outcry about the wars.
It was a very sad affair each time we had to do this but now they have hidden it from the people - as has the media.
This letter says it all very clearly.
I salute you Sergeant Lewis.

I wonder if....
this brave Sgt. is a "Pat Tillman" look-alike? Wouldn't he be GREAT in the next salvo of Ron Paul advertisements?
The first two ads were like a block-buster movie trailer...and that has worked well to capture the attention of the lame-minded masses, but now let's shift gears and garner the attention of another population segment.
How about gentlemen (and ladies) in uniform doing ads for RP, showing their patriotism for the NATION not the DEFENSE CONTRACTORS!!

I THINK I HAVE THE SOLUTION TO THIS...
It's a common sense approach to "minding your own business."
Imagine if your next door neighbor came to you and told you how to think, what to eat, what religion you can follow, how to raise your kids, etc. Imagine that at first it starts as a suggestion, but then they get forceful. They decide, because they think they know better, to occupy a room in your home. They decide that you're an unfit husband and replace you with a guy that they think is better for your household, etc, etc.
How long would it take you to react to this? Maybe at first it would be peaceful resentment, but how long til it got violent?
Honestly, this is a "nice" way of putting it because we have done worse with our foreign policy. In a way, we've chosen to "divorce" the couple (regime change) and give the wife a "real husband" (one that believes what we want him to believe) more forcefully and violently.
Why can't RP relate this (or any other common scenario) to people who doubt an interventionist policy?
Just my two cents....
...and their children were
...and their children were killed as collateral damage.
Maybe I can help....
I am a Veteran of the current Iraq "peace keeping mission."
I served in Iraq from 2005 - 2006. I joined the Active Army not long after the attacks on September 11th. I felt like I had some obligation to grab a rifle and head off to the front lines. At the time I was relatively young at 20 years of age. I was confused and scared and just thought that I had to do something, which of course the recruiters were more than happy to hear.
Now, several years removed from the military (honorable discharge), I have come to my senses about these wars. I have researched and educated myself. Ron Paul just makes it much easier to understand. I, in no way whatsoever, regret my service to this country. I am a proud disabled veteran. However, I now understand how useless these wars are.
Actually, I realized that while still serving in Iraq. We would be tasked with cordoning off and searching certain areas of Baghdad, which always resulted in us wasting an incredible amount of money and man power. We would find nothing more than whatever the regime at the time considered contraband. The real problems occurred at the end of the day, when everyone was so exhausted it was hard to think clearly. It was always on the way back home (to the fob) that we would be attacked. It wasn't the people that our leadership deemed it necessary to search, it was the people watching us drive back. This is when it gets serious. This is when lives, friends and millions of dollars of equipment are lost.
Active duty members of the military are prevented from having a real voice in elections, besides monetary donations, which we were all pretty good at. We veterans are a different story. We can tell our side of the story. We can campaign for whomever we wish. We can ensure that the people of this country know what we are actually doing in these foreign countries, which most people couldn't point out on a map.
If anyone has any ideas for ways that we veterans can help the good Dr. Paul, please respond to this. We may be veterans, but we can still provide some service to this country. We can help elect Ron Paul.
But how?
Mr. Clark, thank you for supporting Ron Paul and for your
candor in speaking of your own experience. I have lots of ideas to offer since you asked. Find a Ron Paul meetup group in your area (just google Ron Paul meetup group and your city). Show up at a meeting or event and make sure they know that you are a veteran of the war in Iraq and are willing to make statements in public. At this point the Ron Paul supporters will swarm you and won't let you leave. They (we, since you are one of us) are a very creative bunch, and they will immediately start brainstorming how to use this treasure (you!) in the campaign. They will want you to call in to local radio talk shows, they will start putting together a team to make a video starring you, they will try to make you go to town hall meetings to talk to polititians about you views on the war, they will probably even try to get you to be a delegate to the Republican convention, etc. Just pick and choose from their ideas and your own and start the journey. One idea always leads to more. Veterans who support Ron Paul and are willing to talk about the wars are the gold standard of the campaign, in my opinion. The Ron Paul group here in Oklahoma City was started by one guy - he is a Captain in the merchant marine and between jobs. He persuaded someone to donate some commercial space above a business, plastered Ron Paul signs on the windows, and invited everyone in the Oklahoma Ron Paul on-line meetup to a meeting. I helped out, and we hoped for a dozen people and got 40. Young and old, all walks of life, and Democrats as well as Republicans and Libertarians and Independents. When I left at 11:00 p.m. the meeting was still going strong. Believe me, all you have to do is show up and tell Ron Paul people that you are a veteran who wants to help Ron Paul get elected.
First join one of the coalitions
at www.ronpaul2012.com/veteransforronpaul
it re-directs you to the facebook page.
Second, get to the streets, spread the word that you are a veteran, and that you support Ron Paul. Say it out loud, shout it from the rooftops, and then follow-up with WHY! People love hearing from the troops and their perspective on the issues, because you were on the front lines. Most Americans have not been. This is why they don't understand, and believe only what they are told by "reliable" sources. They mistakenly think the media is a "reliable" source. It is not. You Sir, are a reliable source!!! :)
