What have we become?Submitted by mikeshaner78 on Wed, 08/17/2011 - 11:50

It struck me on the way to work this am- In choosing candidates, all we're looking for in the modern era is someone who is electable. Thus, we have a political machine that is made up of snake oil salesmen who happen to have an appealing (to the masses) rhetoric, but virtually no other redeeming qualities.
Our education level in this country is reflected by the people we elect. We're dumbed down, so we elect dumb people. Compare the philosophies, articulation and oratory of a Dubya Bush, or Barack Obama (both highly educated by modern standards) to the philosophies of a Patrick Henry, who was in his time considered by his peers a mere backwoodsman, and you'll see what I mean.
