Ron Paul mocks Rick Perry on his Fed statement

By ALEXANDER BURNS | 8/17/11 9:08 PM EDT

Making a campaign stop in Concord, N.H., Wednesday, Ron Paul bragged about his status as a critic of the Federal Reserve — and poked fun at his home-state governor, Rick Perry, for his heated comments about Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.

"Now they have this other governor, I can't remember his name," Paul joked. "He realizes that talking about the Fed is good, too. But I'll tell you what, he makes me sound like a moderate. I have never once sai
d Bernanke has committed treason. But I have suggested very strongly that the Federal Reserve system and all the members have been counterfeiters for a long time."

Ron is doing well

In the poll mentioned below.

Why Perry's criticisms of the Fed are bad news.

1) It tends to steal Ron Paul's thunder, making him APPEAR not to be unique, and diluting the benefit to his campaign of being a long term antagonist of the Fed.

2) He can immunize the public against Ron Paul's criticism of the Fed by making outlandish statements, unsupported allegations, or simply failing to educate. (It is the same principle as biological immunity when exposed to a weakened pathogen.)

All of this actually hurts RON PAUL's credibility and makes our job more difficult.

I was thinking the opposite

If you see a nice leather couch sitting next to a cheap pleather beanbag chair, it's easy to see the difference.

Your second point is a good point, but overall this is good news. It was going to get to the point where they couldn't just ignore him at some point, so this is progress. Bring it on, the political winds are blowing our way, get my point?

There may have been a slight overuse of the word point in the above paragraph.

To Perry and Bachmann, you are no Ron Paul

politicians have hijacked enough from Ron Paul

It's time for Ron Paul to put them in their place by simply comparing records.

"Now that I've made talking about the Fed socially accepted, other politicians are talking about it...that's a bit of a compliment. However, from a who really is serious about this issue stand point, only I have a consistent aggressive record of confronting the Fed. I even made such and such bill to audit the Fed. The others didn't vote on it. Other than give lip service, they haven't done anything to make the Fed more transparent. In this and many other ways, they are frauds.

BTW: It's important to mention that Herman Cain was a Fed chairman. It's time for him to be confronted about that."

How is that mocking him?

?

You've been ZAMPED!!!!!!!

Good point

It's banter. Mocking requires a lapse in class.

But I don't wanna' nitpick either, to not discourage reporters who tackle Ron Paul.

CNN Rushes to Defense the Fed

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Texas Governor Rick Perry has been on a Bernanke-bashing binge this week, demanding on Wednesday that the Federal Reserve "open their books up."

That comment comes after Perry said earlier this week that it would be "treasonous" if Chairman Ben Bernanke used Fed policy to stimulate the economy before the election.

But what books exactly does Perry want opened?

The Federal Reserve already publishes its balance sheet online every Thursday for the entire world to see.

Lol!

They already publish their balance sheet?

What does CNN think "audit" is supposed to mean?

When an accounting firm audits a firm, it's done in order to find discrepancies.

Does CNN think that a corporation publishing it's own statements is equivalent to an audit?

Who's kidding whom?

that clip just shown on MSNBC!

First Perry, then Ron Paul making fun of him! Pretty funny!

'Cause there's a monster on the loose

Anyone else think these Fox

Anyone else think these Fox sidebar polls are designed to be misleading to the casual viewer? If you're not already familiar with the layout, at first glance it appears as though Romney at 41% has a slight edge over Perry at 33% and nobody else is even close.

I completely agree

When I first saw it, I thought Paul only had 5%. It was only upon inspection that I figured it out. I know that I'm not the smartest guy around, but I at least think I'm a little ahead of the curve than the typical Fox & Friends watcher/follower. No offense to them or anything, but you are what you eat.
