Zappa: "I'm a conservative and you may not like that, but I am"

One of my favorite Zappa interviews from the PMRC days. Thought my fellow libertarians would enjoy. (How happy I am to have found all of you)

I always liked zappa...

I just never knew about this... Great stuff!

Maybe I would make a good rock star!

Classic transcript all the way through!

Senator Hawkins: Well, I might tell you that if you were to go in a toy store -- which is very educational for fathers, by the way; it is not a maternal responsibility to buy toys for children -- that you may look on the box and the box says, this is suitable for 5 to 7 years of age, or 8 to 15, or 15 and above, to give you some guidance for a toy for a child. Do you object to that?

FZ: In a way I do, because that means that somebody in an office someplace is making a decision about how smart my child is.

Senator Hawkins: I would be interested to see what toys your kids ever had.

FZ: Why would you be interested?

Senator Hawkins: Just as a point of interest.

FZ: Well, come on over to the house. I will show them to you.

(in my best Strom Thurmond accent...)

"Whoa, it looks like we got bear by the tail, heah."

Frank did an amazing job (as usual) with audio from these hearings as he integrated it into his album "vs. The Mothers of Prevention".

"we're turning again!"

My 'Zappa For President' bumper sticker

was a source of ridicule for years, so I'm accustomed to being accused of supporting fringe candidates. What is so cool is that the fringe is no longer the fringe today. Thanks for the link, I'm really missing Frank these days. Can you imagine listening to him debate in today's political arena?

My first show ever was FZ

...so I've been 'whacked' for ages...

(Thanks grecco, you were wiser than you ever realized)

RIP Frank...

I clearly recall when he calmly took "Tipper" Gore apart intellectually on C-Span. It was GREAT!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Now if someone better than I am with search engines can unearth yesterday's post here where Virginia Heffernan admits to lying in court & post THAT on the NYT-retraction-thread, I'll be happy. Well, briefly. ;)

moment of silence for Frank

yes, that was one of the best moments to have been aired on c-span in its history. the man was as bright as could be. ...think I'll go listen to some Mothers while I wait for someone to post the Morning Joe interview to YouTube.
