Ron Paul's VP choice should be a woman
Submitted by DevilsAdvocate on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 21:05It is always important to look at what the market is telling us. Right now, the market is telling us that they want a woman in the white house.
I am not for affirmative action here, it is simply my contention that a ticket with a woman on it is a winning ticket. And if we do end up winning in the end, imagine the historical significance of a Paul presidency ushering the first woman into the vice presidency!

nope......
McWar tried that already with Palin....
didn't work!
May I suggest gender is not the primary criteria?
Primary criteria for me - is the danger to RP's life greater with this person as his VP?
Please think before suggesting a VP that may have some mainstream appeal without realizing it is that same acceptability to the mainstream that would probably get Dr. Paul killed in office. Think GHWB with Reagan - yeah, THAT sure was a good idea! Only 69 days and he damn near bought it.
Please consider whether and to what extent the PTB would prefer your suggestion get their chance at the presidency in a Paul/_____ administration, and you'll see why so many suggestions here and on similar threads are, IMO, a VERY BAD IDEA.
I think they'd even take their chances on Rand in the event we ran a Paul/Paul ticket. How strongly would he stand up for our liberty if his dad was gone and he's left to fend for himself in that murderous criminal environment?
I think I will wait
and see who Dr. Paul has in mind..He probably knows best. After all he has to put his life in the hands of whoever he picks.

I rolled my eyes when I read this topic,
and thought it was ridiculous. And it is.
Then, I read the comments.
WOW!
We have some space cadets here!
It was hard for me to decide if the comments on this thread were aimed at the Guinness Book of World Records for kow-towing to Political Correctness, or just plain pandering to every known leftist special interest group on the planet.
I sincerely feel embarrassed for some of the commenters on this thread.
Check out my comment
I think it is the most politically correct.

VP
If it had to be a woman my vote is Debra Medina.
I have much respect for Debra Medina
And I believe she would decline.

I don't believe in affirmative action
But I will say that I have thought about a certain woman being Paul's VP. I will not mention a name because she is not necessarily on the same page as Paul but I do think she would help make a winning ticket because she is liked by conservative republicans and is very likable herself.
But in the end I would most like to see the Judge as VP.
Maybe in a perfect world it
Maybe in a perfect world it should be Gary Johnson, but realistically it needs to be someone historically underrepresented (what an understatement, one non-white male P/VP in all of history). I know WHY you want GJ and whoever to be VP, but as long as the person has the values of liberty, I don't see what's wrong with a little affirmative action to achieve our goals. (Not govt. imposed AA, but us freely making the decision to break some historical barriers.)
Think of how that shapes the age and health issue for democrats and liberals especially. As long as its not another guaranteed failure Sarah Palin type.
Don't understand why this gets down voted so much. Its ugly to think about this stuff, but its the necessary truth. I thought we were about winning this thing?
Bring people with you. Get people to go who normally wouldn't. Multiply your vote!

Hey there Billy Jack
This has nothing to do with the original title of this post, I happen to believe that the best person for the job should get it - if it were ever to happen. However Billy Jack needs to do the following in my humble opinion:
1. Take a few lessons from RP on how we lose our liberty when we are "grouped together" as a collective.
2. Understand that liberty and equality for all Individuals is what we are fighting for
3. Try to practice being an adult.
I for one do not think RP would ever refer to me as a "broad" but on the other hand based on your comment I can not expect you to share his wisdom.
PS great job in offending all women on this site who have worked to get RP elected

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
I would pick 4 star General Wesley Clark for VP.
It would pull in more Democrats to the Republican party.Wesley warned years ago what the Pentagon was gonna do in the middle east.He hit that nail on the head like Ron Paul told about the coming housing bubble. Are ready to think outside the political box.
His VP choice should
His VP choice should represent his commitment to the Constitution and sound money. A libertarian economics or law professor who doesn't have any allegiances to the political establishment would fit Paul's style. A charismatic educator who's as passionate about these topics as Ron Paul can help us sway the whole population to re-adopt our founding principles.
It should be the former
It should be the former Governor of New Mexico, Gary Johnson because he's the next best man for the job.
see http://www.caseyresearch.com/articles/best-presidential-cand...
(He'd probably step off the Libertarian ticket and join as VP if Ron Paul was the nominee - that would bring all the libertarians along too, and give the country a great backup that everyone could like without compromising principles like Regan did with a George Bush senior style neo-con.)
?
what market are you referring to?
If we want the broadest appeal, I'd say go with Lady Gaga to be sure to secure the youth vote, the market is sure to love this choice.
Well, it certainly
didn't help McCain (or Dukakis).
I vote for substance over symbolism as proof of legitmancy and seriousness - whatever gender that may be.
No gimmicks - we are soooooo past gimmicks.
“The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.” Ron Paul - The Revolution
This is the one instance where I would go for symbolism
...over substance.
As long as the VP candidate was 90% in agreement with Dr. Paul, and there were a good chance they would actually carry out his agenda should something happen to him, I thing he should choose a middle-aged openly gay hispanic woman veteran for his running mate.
Many of the people whose votes we're trying to attract truly are swayed by symbolism like this. They really will vote for someone based solely on gender or ethnicity. And I'm fine with that, as long as it means a win.
Those votes will count just the same as mine will, and as long as that gets Ron Paul in the white house, it works for me.

Huntsman should be VP (this idea got -5 on another thread).
Look, this is inevitable. I am convinced the three stooges slip on their own banana peels and leave the GOP with Dr. Paul as the lone standing candidate. As such, they will impose upon him severe conditions for not making a mess at the convention (they'll leave THAT to OWS).
As such, Huntsman or some other high profile party man WILL be VP. Not Ventura or Napolitano or some other pundit.
To illustrate how these things work, look at our current VP, Joe Biden. Does anyone honestly think he was Barack Hussein's choice? Hell no, he was picked to take the racist xenophobia out of the Democrat majority.
So will Hunstman or some other insider be there to sap kneejerk neocon fear of libertarianism away in time for the elections.
Its how the system works, and like it or not, we're in the system.

I don't think it matters much
I don't think it matters much if it's a woman or man, but I do think age will matter, unfortunately, since the Obama campaign would make it an issue just like they did with McCain... so somebody younger than Dr. Paul would probably be ideal.
Since we are once again talking about cart well before the
horse stuff we really have no control over:
My Female VP picks would be a super model, Jenna Jameson, something along those lines, etc.
On second thought, this exercise really is increasing our chances.

"...telling us they want a woman in the white house" For Pete's sake haven't we had enough of affirmative action? There are as many incompetent women around as men... The gov't is full of them. Why must we be gender specific? How about the most competent and willing to assist President Paul?
If you want to unite a broken Country
Fill your cabinet with democrats, libertarians, tea partiers, and whatever else is out there. That would be the first really big signal that he is here to unite the country. That's how they did it back in the beginning...

Break the false left vs right paradigm
I'd love to see Dennis Kucinich ob the ticket. In my opinion if you want an almost guaranteed victory against Obama in the national election, Dennis Kucinich is the choice. I've talked to progressives who would cross over and vote for Paul if he were to select Dennis. They agree on a multitude of issues (ie. the fed, drug policy, wars, corporate welfare, etc). Kucinich also points to the constitution a lot. the only thing they disagree on really is certain domestic economic policy, but the vp has their limits of course. they are good friends and would be great together as a dream ticket for truth fighters everywhere. it would uproot the establishment completely. the left vs right paradigm would be exposed and dismantled with that ticket. plus they've both talked about considering one another as a team if either one won the presidency
