Time Magazine: Ron Paul "The Prophet"

Twilight descends in new Hampshire as an old man climbs onto his soapbox. LIBERTY: TOO BIG TO FAIL reads a banner hanging in the jam-packed tent. He is hardly a commanding figure, but a thousand people chant his name and lean in to listen, ready to follow, as Ron Paul delivers his genre-bending stump speech. There are no focus-grouped slogans, no empty calories: Paul's talk is more like a high-fiber graduate seminar on economic theory, forgotten history and the nooks and crannies of the U.S. Constitution. "The Federal Reserve system and all their members have been counterfeiters for a long time,"...

The MSM knows that the spoken word becomes reality.

Why else would they own the air waves.
We need to focus on positive talk, instead of giving life to their bogus talk. Just shut them off. Here on DP.
How was the world created? Something to think about.
The tongue is the hardest thing to tame.

Paul the Apostle

I just had a thought that TIME might be taking their stupid "prophet" title deeper than I realized before. But that means, that in the end, it could potentially backfire on them even worse if people realize it:

Paul the Apostle, also called the Apostle Paul, Saul of Tarsus, and Saint Paul (c. AD 5–67), was one of the most influential early Christian missionaries, with his writings forming a considerable portion of the New Testament. His influence on Christian thinking has been significant due to his role as a prominent apostle of Christianity during the spreading of the Gospel through early Christian communities across the Roman Empire.

According to the Bible, Paul was known as Saul prior to his conversion, and was dedicated to the persecution of the early disciples of Jesus in the area of Jerusalem. While traveling from Jerusalem to Damascus on a mission to "bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem", the resurrected Jesus appeared to him in a great light. Saul was struck blind, but after three days his sight was restored by Ananias of Damascus, and Paul began to preach that Jesus of Nazareth is the Jewish Messiah and the Son of God.

I went to 2 drug stores and 2 grocery stores yesterday

just to see if TIME was even on the rack and it wasn't! Newsweek, TIME and US News and World Report were nowhere to be found.

***MISQUOTE!

Althought they pretend to give Paul the attention he deserves, this piece is riddled with propaganda. One of the most important is that it (mis)quotes Jesse Benton, saying something like 'Ron isn't in this to win; he is in this to influence popular opinion'*** I don't subscribe to Time, but I read it at my grandpa's house; I was immediately struck by the comment. If Benton actually said what was quoted, he should probably be addressed immediately, if not, it is obvious that Time is trying to discredit RP, JB, and the "intent to win" of the whole campaign. Any insight? Please Share!

He probably meant Ron is most interested in restoring liberty

More than merely serving as president like other candidates. He's in it to win it, but it's not for personal reasons, or just to win, it's for restoring liberty to the country.

Jesse Benton is either being quoted out of context, or chose his words unwisely.

btw an old plug from daniel hannan

http://youtu.be/LSLnQnsLx2o?t=9m17s

i think there were lots of republicans during this event and just when they were enchanted by daniel hanna's oratorical skills, he busted out ron paul's name several times

This is a little game

Time magazine is duping Paul supporters in to playing where the prize at the end is a cover with an unflattering article to follow.

There are several links on this comment thread to the full text, so no need to repost.

I am not a fan.

That photo

ROCKS!

Needs a good caption - anyone?

I'll try: Yeah, that's right. I'm in it to win it.

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.
Ron Paul - The Revolution

Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms. Ron Paul

Really think so?

I don't... seems distorted, like in his recent web cam interview.. his face looks narrow and his nose is bigger than it should be. Compare it to the pics on the left side of the screen, definite difference!

Wonder if they photoshopped it from his webcam interview??

'Cause there's a monster on the loose

"Time Magazine Mentions Candidate Ron Paul / End of World Near"

A not completely horrible article in Time Magazine about Ron Paul? What is the world coming too?

Closer inspection reveals a number of subtle techniques used in attitude manipulation.

1) The article did make sure to use the "L" word six times. The actual percentage of voters who identify themselves as "libertarians" is vanishingly small.

2) The title "The Prophet" also seems to be exceptionally inspired, simultaneously reaffirming his media-created image as a cult figure and subliminally spooking the Islamo-phobic Republicans. Brilliant.

3) "...Paul remains an extreme long shot." Remember the basic message and repeat after me...Ron Paul is unelectable, unelectable, unelectable...

4) "too radical" [unelectable]

5) "oldest ever" [unelectable]

6) Ron Paul supporters are "a ragtag coalition of anarchists, antiwar activists, goldbugs, paleoconservatives, hard-core libertarians and conspiracy theorists [who] lionized the 17th century British revolutionary Guy Fawkes--infamous for his attempt to blow up Parliament".

(Repeating the urban myth about Guy Fawkes and the November 5th money bomb, just in case you hadn't heard it yet.)

In other words, Ron Paul supporters are radical, weird, kooky, and possibly even dangerous. They definitely aren't YOU and probably aren't even people you would want to invite to a party.

7) And finally, "I do what I do because I believe that truth wins out in the end," he explains. Even if his candidacy will have a hard time doing the same."
Why a "hard time"? Do We have to keep reminding you? Ron Paul is unelectable, unelectable, unelectable...
Don't make us have to tell you again.

Despite all this I found the article to be surprisingly factual and even "un-negative".

Of course, if you are going to lace your iced tea with arsenic, it always helps to add a little sugar.

The Virtual Conspiracy

Excellent review

People should read this before reading the article and wrongly becoming enchanted with Time.

Time is a group of professional propagandists. The most effective propaganda is not obvious it is.

Second That

Excellent Review!!

"I have found that being rich is not about having the most but about needing the least"

Can someone please just copy and paste the text?

I am interested in reading it, but do not want to give a globalist fascist rag a cent.

I don't think this is a good idea.

Time Magazine states on the linked page:

"To read the entire article, you must be a U.S. TIME subscriber."

Please do not endanger Michael and the DailyPaul by posting the entire text of this article.

AMERICA FIRST....is in Wikipedia...Lindbergh fascinating comment

Wikepedia quotes: "Lindbergh urged listeners to look beyond the speeches and propaganda they were being fed and instead look at who was writing the speeches and reports, who owned the papers and who influenced the speakers."

Thanks for telling us about your interview, NUCLEAR KID. I think I know who you are!

Wikipedia quotes Lindbergh's speech:

"Instead of agitating for war the Jewish groups in this country should be opposing it in every possible way, for they will be among the first to feel its consequences. Tolerance is a virtue that depends upon peace and strength. History shows that it cannot survive war and devastation. A few farsighted Jewish people realize this and stand opposed to intervention. But the majority still do not. Their greatest danger to this country lies in their large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio, and our government."

Amazing, isn't this? Even the future President Gerald Ford was part of this group of 800,000 Americans! The quote above tells me a lot---that Hollywood and the Media have never changed. They never will...it's the masses that are changing, and now the small groups of people, the some 600 politicians, and all the "special" corporations & interest groups are now beginning to be overwhelmed.......by

MILLIONS OF AMERICANS who are tired of the manipulations & weary of a century of "special interest" wars.

Time? I'm worried.

There is something strange going on. Time is generally pure propaganda so I fear there is something else at work here. Maybe Ron Paul is becoming the mainstream media candidate, but I don't think so.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

-C. S. Lewis

They want to continue ignoring Ron Paul

without actually "looking" like they are ignoring Ron Paul.

It's all a facade.

RON PAUL 2012

Perhaps others will learn

I gave Time $5 for this article. If you look at their site, it is the #1 most read story. Overwhelm them and go viral with it. When other media outlets see the success of Time, they will follow suit quickly. Of course it is dismissive at the end of the story with the same old "he can't win" rhetoric, but it would not be the first time the media has been wrong, now would it?

Not A prophet!

DR. Paul is not a prophet. He is the manifestation of peaceful liberty loving people! Dr. Paul/Liberty movement did proverbially flip over the Feds printing presses and the too big to fail corporation! They said not in the house of Liberty! Is this A Jesus or religious interpretation? NO It is not! Those that read this know it is not about a single individual or religion, but a movement that has come it's time.

hope for the best

midas touch

seems like whatever RP touches turns to gold too.

Exactly!

Ron Paul is not a prophet. He's just a pragmatic realist who tells it like it is. Even though the truth is poison to his peers and the establishment, Ron Paul has stuck to his guns for the last few decades. He said it best:

Truth is treason in an empire of lies.

Definition of Prophet

You're right about the meaning of Prophet by some definitions but there are others as well. For instance here are 3 of the 5 definitions for the word at merriam-webster.com:

- one gifted with more than ordinary spiritual and moral insight; especially : an inspired poet

- one who foretells future events : predictor

- an effective or leading spokesman for a cause, doctrine, or group

I think number 3 is right on and number 2 to some extent. I suppose it depends on how you define the word.

I'm RealHarrySeaward on YouTube and @JayToTheDee on Twitter.

I'd give him all three....

after hearing him at the Values Voter Debate.

"Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern." ~~C.S. Lewis
Love won! Deliverance from Tyranny is on the way! Col. 2:13-15

Watch the movie "V" for Vendetta...

That's where the Guy Fawkes day idea came from.

Guy Fawkes?

I had to look this guy up - I'd heard of "Guy Fawkes day," but had no idea what it was about.

So I looked up the name, and, well, ICK!

According to Wiki, the guy was a Roman Catholic terrorist.

Let's not adopt a terrorist as our mascot, OK?

Freedom is my Worship Word!

"let's not adopt a terrorist

"let's not adopt a terrorist as our mascot". Amen! I know full well Ron Paul supporters aren't into violence, but people need to think a bit more wisely. The establishment is sitting like a vulture waiting for ANYTHING it can find to discredit and destroy Ron Paul and the Libery message. They cannot do it to him directly with any success. . .

So. . . if they can't demonize the man himself. . . who will they demonize? His supporters. I can already read the propaganda. They'll keep that mantra of "Ron Paul supporters like Guy Fawkes, a guy arrested for trying to blow up a government building.". . . It doesn't matter if people are mimicking something they saw in a movie, it WILL be used against them, and the Paul campaign.

Personally, when I read about Guy Fawkes, I found absolutely nothing to be inspired by at all. He was a violent jerk who thought it was a good idea to blow up innocent people, and all he succeeded in doing was being executed and used as a huge pro-crown propaganda tool, where people celebrated his arrest for more than 100 years all around the world. . . Doesn't sound like something to admire.

Look folks, terrorism doesn't work. The only party terrorism helps is the government. The government WANTS violence, because they have no real justification to get rid of legit peaceful oposition. But. . . that all changes if people run around doing violent things. .. then the government has the perfect justification to round up people it doesn't like and "get rid of them". This isn't Nazi Germany (at least not at this time).

Sure, same for most of us

but the whole Guy Fawkes day was, as has been posted here, about the movie V For Vendetta, not the Guy Fawkes thing. "Remember, remember the 5th of November." Check out the movie.
