Third place with the restrictions in place was still a great showing. Thanks for those who were there giving moral support and thanks for those who voted for him in the Texas straw poll.

3rd? I don't believe that

Who beat him?

3rd... no way. Not until I see video of lots and lots and lots of people insisting they voted for somebody else.

I heard a rumor of FISTFIGHTS having broken out at the SP, involving some of the vote fraud watchdog folks. Anybody got any info on that?

What is begun in anger, ends in shame.

The only reason this straw poll was set up was to embarras RP

I'm from Texas and know the players and I can tell you that months ago this thing was devised to promote Duncan Hunter and embarrass Ron Paul. The Republican Party supported a DEMOCRAT against Ron Paul in a Congressional district race several years ago and have always tried to get rid of him one way or the other.

These people (the party faithful) or (party liberals) have always found Ron too Constitutional for them. Their battle cry is compromise so a Republican can win - anyone but Ron Paul - he is just too principaled for the Texas Republican Party. Hurts me to say this. I'm old enough to have been around when the R's couldn't elect a dog catcher and believe me they were a bunch of real conservatives. Over the years they have defected to run anything that can get elected.

Texas knows how to rig an election.

So, OK, go ahead and scream and yell at me for having a bad attitude, but have you ever been in a counting room for paper ballots? Believe me, disqualification rules are a thing to behold and they have been masterfully used.

I for one would like to see those paper ballots. With 2000 at the other activities I find it hard to believe Ron came in third.

I'm not a poor loser but I've been around.

Texas Liberty Lady

The poll was not all-inclusive

In other straw polls, any resident of that state/county could vote. In the Texas SP only people that voted in republican primaries between 2000-2006 were allowed to vote. So, folks that have been inspired to become politically active for the first time were not included. Taking a significant proportion of the crowd that has recently elected such great men as King George II is pretty decent.

nah

The establishment decided to push Hunter...that was all planned.
-But- 16,7 % in a pro war state from former pro war delegates is great.
