I know
there are some party loyalists as well as specific issue loyalists on both sides. I know of some of them too, but there are a lot of less dogmatic progressives who would easily switch to Ron Paul who voted for Obama. I just 'converted' one today on accident. So don't worry The dogmatic progressives are few and far between. The average person isn't even paying much attention to politics yet, and those are the ones who will start to shift first. You might as well forget about your friend and don't even waste your time talking about politics for at least another 4 years.

The Ron Paul Campaign Staff Needs to Fight Back!
I saw that AlterNet hit job too, and I was pissed that the phony smears continue.
It is one thing to have specific policy disagreements (as I have on a few issues), but the smear-tactics are a horrible reflection of how even some "liberals" (faux liberals) would rather continue to have War Criminal, Fascist-Corporatist scum who happily lie to them each and every day continue on in power as their leaders ... then they would give proper respect and consideration for an Anti-War, Anti-Corporatist, honest man.
A response is necessary, because as we saw with G. H. W. Bush's phony-attacks against Mike Dukakis in 1988, and exaggerated smears against Al Gore in 2000, and smears against John Kerry in 2004 -- if you let them smear you ... enough people will believe the smears.
The Ron Paul campaign needs to have a "War Room" similar to Bill Clinton in 1992 where he has a staff that combats all the attacks and smears, and sets the record straight.
You can never expect people to just be "smart enough" to see through the disguise. If that were true, America would never have gotten so messed-up and overrrun by corrupt people to begin with.

One of my friends who describes himself as a progressive told me he cannot support Ron Paul because RP is pro-life... and this even though RP has said repeatedly (and is the only honest man left in Washington D.C.) that the Federal Government has no standing in the abortion question. He's running for President for heaven's sake! A Federal executive position. RP couldn't do anything about the issue, other than appoint Constitutionalists to the Federal Courts... who, by the way, would also want the issue back in the hands of the states!

thinking outside the box
I'm definitely not a progressive and don't care much for them. But how do we know that disinformation operatives aren't filling out the comment forms to create a false consensus that the progressives will follow ?
Seems reasonable that some people just follow the path of least resistance carved out by others with "seemingly" similar interests.
