This is a copy of an email I sent to Gov. Malloy today in regards to his recent comments on CNN. My first actual action taken in support of Dr. Paul and his 2012 campaign. Thanks for reading.
I had the pleasure yesterday of listening to your comments that were aired on CNN in rebuttal to the comments of Texas congressman Ron Paul's, in regards to the embarrassing and federally managed boondoggle known as FEMA, and was inspired to contact you. What you have failed (or likely ignored) to see is that Mr. Paul was merely pointing out one example of overall government failure when it attempts to interfere and/or regulate the everyday lives of Americans. It also just happens to be one of the most glaring failures of the Federal government where local authorities should have jurisdiction, with the possible exception of the Department of Homeland Security. With any sincere and thorough research into the matter I would hope you and others would agree, instead of holding steadfast to your “government does it best” mentality.
While I hold the utmost respect of the right of all citizens of this country their right to speak and/or otherwise make their opinion known (backed by the 1st amendment of the US Constitution), those of you who hold local or national political offices are (or should be) expected to withhold from spewing the useless, personal, unsupported, and/or otherwise playground type of an insult that you expressed when a legitimate, although opposing, viewpoint is given by another.
What you should take into consideration before offering your unsubstantiated opinion is that I, as well as millions of other folks who favor smaller government (and many CNN viewers coincidentally), regard Congressman Paul in much higher regards than the big government and seemingly socialist leaning people such as you. Dr. Paul has offered factual accounts as to the failings of this agency, yet you chose to try to smear someone in superior position with your childish retort. Most of the truly interested public is starving for real news based on real facts instead of the uninformed and ignorant diatribe you and others offer up for the viewing public.
Dr. Paul’s opinion in this matter (FEMA), as well as his other views in regards to government run amuck, has essentially become mantra due to his unwavering stance, and well documented and unchanged opinions for the last several decades. He has proven himself time and again as to the factual nature of his views, predictions, and ideals. For you or anyone to pull the "he's just playing politics" card is truly showing his own idiocy, or at the very least a poorly formed opinion based on ignorance and the "party line" mindlessness. If you lack the skills for well informed and useful debate, you should at the very least step aside in favor of someone who does. Saying anyone is an idiot just doesn’t cut it these days and if you have no support to go along with your utterances, then perhaps you are better suited to minding the business that your state elected you for instead of federal matters and television appearances.
One can only assume that a political figure who tries to make his point in the manner in which you did wouldn't stand a chance in a true debate of the matter, and if that's the best you can offer when posed a legitimate question, you should feel ashamed and embarrassed. I'm sure you're not, but one can at least hope that politicians in this country have begun to see that the American public is beginning to demand more from all of you.
Upon hearing you say "he's an idiot" in regards to Dr. Paul’s FEMA position; I surely thought that with such a blunt response to the anchorpersons' query, I would at least hear some follow up statements that would support your opinion of the agency and Dr. Paul’s views. Sadly, that idiotic statement was all you had to offer. No facts, no supporting evidence, no pinpoint views in opposition to what Dr. Paul actually said; nothing but "he's an idiot". The little information you did follow up with was pathetic at best and mostly untrue personal opinion.
FEMA is a gargantuan waste of government resources and its minions and lackeys usurp undue power at any chance they are offered. It is a bureaucratic web that ensnares and encumbers what it was truly designed to do. The private citizens of this country were able to endure, recover, and rebuild from natural disasters well before FEMA, and will be able to do so after its demise. Your statement that Dr. Paul is an idiot changes none of those facts.
And so, one would think, with the limited exposure I've had in regards to the political affiliations, aspirations, loyalties, and/or other allegiances you may have, I should not be able to make an informed opinion in regards to you as a person or politician. But based on your statements on CNN, I most certainly have formed an opinion of you. Your "status quo - toe the party line" approach to running our government (further into the debt hole) would be laughable if it weren't so tragic. While I'll hold the exact nature and wording of my opinion of you to myself for now, I will admit it is much less than what you think of Dr. Paul. I will however be sharing it with my friends, family, and business associates who work or live in your fine state.
American's are waking up to the reality that the status quo minded politics and policies are destroying this great Republic and we've decided to become more active in order to change it. I’ve not considered myself an ardent Ron Paul supporter (until now I guess) that the mass media defines as "fringe". I am a blue collar worker who has seen his livelihood, savings, and personal freedom decimated by the status quo. I am a reformed democrat (thanks to Mr. Obama’s many broken promises) who is merely trying to see the truth through the lies that most politicians and media outlets seem to supply me with. And I am determined in letting any and all who will listen that the status quo isn’t good enough any more. America is ready for real change that only brave souls such as Ron Paul have a hope of leading us through.
I hope someday you’ll get a clue and truly try to see facts through normal citizens’ eyes and form your opinions after better research. Don't just look at your supporters; look at all of us as this goes well beyond the two-party political system that we have been saddled with. You need to understand that we are all waking up, we are mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it any more.
Thank you so much for lighting the fire in me and inspiring me to become more active and vocal in my opinions as a response to your appearance. I hope you can understand the true meaning of this letter as well; that a regular citizen such as me can share a differing viewpoint while offering truth in my statements, and I have not had to resort to playground comments in order to denigrate you in a personal manner.
Ron Paul for President in 2012!
