Feds to Gibson: "Use Madagascar labor and your problems will go away"

KMJ Radio host Chris Daniel interviewed Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz on Wednesday. Juszkiewicz told Chris that the Obama Administration told them, “Your problems would go away if you used Madagascar labor instead of our labor.”

How many union workers does Gibson employ?

There's your answer.

I'll bet if Gibson used union labor the feds wouldn't have been on their case from the start.

They're really reaching for something just to stuff Gibson with legal troubles.

FEDs!: Either charge them with something, or give them

their stuff back. NOW!
I think we have to be careful with our message so as not to prejudge what is a legal matter (if there is one). So I say charge 'em or return their property. NOW!

vast majority of guitars are made overseas

some random, somewhat politically related info on guitars : nowadays, im almost certain most guitars, both electric and acoustic, are made overseas. the biggest overseas manufacturers are china and mexico, with korea and japan also producing a large amount. most manufactures, like gibson and fender, have manufacturing operations in at least two or three of those places. most people just cant afford an american made guitar. the general starting price point for an american made guitar is somewhere around $1000. the quality of an american made guitar is usually very high, and these guitars often keep their value well. a few will increase in value. you can get a good quality mexican made guitar for about half the price of an american made guitar. you can get a decent or playable chinese made guitar for about one hundred dollars less than a mexican made guitar. two of the biggest names in american guitars, taylor and martin, have recently begun producing guitars in mexico. they had to open these operations in order to stay afloat in the world of $125 chinese guitars. some manufactures have also begun producing "sustainable wood" guitars, guitars that are more eco friendly and legal friendly. these guitars havent done all that well in terms of sales yet. one single high quality american made guitar can take weeks to make, start to finish, passing through the hands of many workers in many different departments before it is ready to be sold.

Ron Paul Campaign needs to make this FRONT AND CENTER

Seriously this is an opportunity for RP 2012

its pure corrupt, I am sure Obama gets a "kickback" from making our jobs go over somewhere else.....the man needs to be out of office he is leading to the ruin of our Country.

Schedule a Campaign Stop...

...at Gibson headquarters. Organize a march. RP could be the featured speaker! This is brilliant PR.

Undoubtedly, the CEO would welcome the media attention, as he so far as not shied away from the microphone.

It would be brilliant on many levels.

1) Hundreds, maybe thousands showing up in their parking lot. Imagine the RP and Gibson banners, signs, T-shirts.
2) Imagine tons of local, maybe national media there, all getting educated. Imagine this state's delegates later voting for RP.
3) Imagine RP saying, "I feel your pain," and then educating all of Gibson's workforce, and others in attendance, about the proper role of government, i.e., the Liberty philosophy.
4) Imagine some state representatives there who would endorse RP. This could start an avalanche in that state, and nationally.

This would be absolutely huge. Gibson is symbolic of the REVOLUTION. This one company, this one CEO, represents the epic battle of small to medium-sized businesses' war against the federal government.

When the CEO speaks, he speaks for millions of like-minded Americans. This is REAL life. RP lives in REALITY.

Jesse Benton, please arrange this campaign event. It would be electrifying and could literally result in the harvest of millions of new votes!!!!

Do it before Slick Rick does it and deceives millions.

Excellent suggestion! Get this to the top!

I'm right here

...boots on the ground. Great PR, I agree.

We'd better act soon.
I can see it now...FEDS force Gibson to only produce sitars, castanets and the occasional rainstick.

I'd close down the stinkin' Fed Gov

instead of closing down Gibson.
At least Gibson has a useful purpose.

Is a car muffler a finished product?

A car muffler has to be attached to an exhaust pipe with a gasket to form a seal and then tested along with the engine as a system.

now the question

will these big boys donate to the super pac and have a president who can actually GET GOVERNMENT off the backs of business?

Imagine gibson and the super pac doing commercials. Now those would be catchy to say the least.

This brave CEO needs to take it to the obvious and natural next step, and openly support and endorse RON PAUL.

Why the hell are there not thousands of medium-sized businesses openly praising Ron Paul?

Wake up.

If this CEO doesn't, I'll be sorely disappointed in him.

Now is the time to choose.

This might be too subtle of a question for gov't to grok

Can somebody explain exactly what a "finished" product is? Why can't an "unfinished" fret board be a "finished" product? It seems to me the finished products which Gibson guitars chooses to purchase are unfinished fret boards.

The gov't "groks it" all right.

The gov't is in the business of destroying America.

The sooner we all recognize it, the sooner we can stop it.

It isn't stupidity. It is evil.

Video never identifies "agent of the US government"...

Hey, I'm all for bashing Obama and his administration at any turn but I don't think that's fair given the content of the video as it is now.

If men are good, you don't need government; if men are evil or ambivalent, you don't dare have one.

Here ya go

Ted Nugent is most closely associated with early 1960s Byrdland models in black, sunburst and natural, and Gibson has developed a Byrdland model named for him. More recently, he has occasionally used a '59 sunburst Les Paul and an American-flag-motif Les Paul.

There's lots more. :)

Ted Nugent...

Well, according the the law

Well, according the the law Gibson is being harassed under that's exactly the case. The Lacey Act essentially binds U.S. companies to foreign laws. Since the laws in Madagascar don't allow exportation of unfinished wood products, Gibson is violating the act. If they also altered the paperwork to show a finished product when there wasn't one, then it looks pretty obvious they knew they were violating the act. Don't get me wrong, I think the Lacey Act is a bunch of crap, but legally Gibson is screwed.

They obviously didn't bribe the right people as I know for a fact other guitar makers do the exact same thing, but the biggest culprit donated a lot of money to Obama so for some strange reason, the government isn't bringing down their wrath on them. It's called crony capitalism. Breath is in. Doesn't it smell great?

Does a U.S. court have jurisdiction over foriegn law?

I suspect that's why no charges have been filed.

Except Gibson isn't breaking any Indian laws and they have written approval for the way they obtain and export wood from the Indian Government itself. So they are totally legal here!

Even with the Lacey Act

Even with the Lacey Act they should legally be fine here in the USA.

Yes, the average politician

Yes, the average politician and federal agent commits more than three felonies per day.

Stand up for what you believe in, even if you stand alone.-Sophia Magdalena Scholl

That's probably true too but

That's probably true too but Slivergate's book 3 felonies a day is about how the government has basically criminalized normal behavior so much that everyone is breaking the law at some point almost everyday and this places all of us in jeopardy because it gives the government almost any excuse to lock people up. We currently have 5% of the world's population and over 25%, a full quarter of the world's prisoners. At some point they could be coming for you, me or any of us.

This is like an attack on baseball, Chevrolet and apple pie...

I own an American made Gibson

I own an American made Gibson SW (dark cherry red)... an amazing, solidly made instrument. Not surprised to hear Henry's comments, but nothing surprises me anymore. You know, I never asked to be an eternal cynic. But I'm glad to give them my support.

If anyone is interested (shameless plug) I made an album and the bulk of the guitar is that Gibson SW. The rapper and I (I do all the production/instruments/sing), we're both Ron Paul supporters... and we'll probably do a Ron Paul related song sooner than later.
