H.R. 1098, the Free Competition in Currency Act of 2011, would allow competitive free market forces to provide sound money through choice in currency. The bill repeals federal legal tender laws, repeals restrictions on private mints, and repeals taxes on gold and silver which prevent them from circulating as forms of payment. The hearing will discuss the need for and efficacy of sound money, the means by which sound money can be achieved through measures such as H.R. 1098, and the constitutional role of government in money.

“For too long the Federal Reserve has exercised a monopoly on currency issuance,” Chairman Paul stated. “The result, predictably, has been an increasingly devalued dollar. We have been experimenting with a pure fiat currency system nationally and internationally for 40 years, and it has been proven unsound and unsustainable. Our fiat system helped create the massive debt crisis we find ourselves in, and has eroded the purchasing power of every American. The American people deserve to have a choice of currencies to protect themselves and their families from the poor decisions of government. Serious monetary reform is needed, and this hearing is the first step towards addressing this crucial issue. I am pleased that the subcommittee will be examining ways to return to sound money,” Paul continued.

The hearing, entitled “Road Map to Sound Money: A Legislative Hearing on H.R. 1098 and Restoring the Dollar,” will be held on Tuesday, September 13, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 2128 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

Witnesses scheduled to testify:

Dr. Lawrence M. Parks, Executive Director, Foundation for the Advancement of Monetary Education

Dr. Lawrence H. White, Professor of Economics, George Mason University

Additional witnesses to be announced.

The wrong video is embedded. A mod should fix it with the correct hearing. It has a lot of new information regarding legal tender laws.

Here is the correct link.

transcript?

Does anyone know where I can access a transcript of this hearing?

Let it not be said that we did nothing.-Ron Paul

A transcript which includes figures, charts & graphs. . .

would be exactly what I wish to see as well!

Was it just more talk...or did something substantial happen?

I know it's neat-o that Paul is head of this sub-committee, but we need change, not talk.

Did anything really change from these meetings?

Basically, what POWER does Ron Paul have via this sub-committee?

RON PAUL IS THE PEOPLE'S CHAMPION!

Remember that Ron Paul's main mission

is education. He is providing the material, the experts, the questions; he is changing the national dialogue. That is real and substantial. Ideas that had not been discussed since FDR's tenure, and some even farther back, are actively being discussed now.
Since the mainstream media is incompetent or crooked, it is we the grassroots that have to carry the ideas, the message of liberty beyond official channels to the people directly.
But in the hearing, while the Keynesian shill and the befuddled congressman that kept asking her for backup, of course had closed minds, I was pleased to hear Kucinich compliment Schiff for a compelling statement. K's mind is more open, it may be of benefit for him to confront ideas beyond his habitual niche. It may also be helpful for him to learn that not all Nobel economists are Keynesian boosters.

It's Up To Ron Paul Supporters To Spread The Video.

Minnesota Chris below provided a fairly good video, that I already passed to my list of e-mail Ron Paul supporters.

We the People in huge numbers have the Power, to put pressure on our elected officials, are you with us ?

power?

He has the power to introduce a bill, which is the first step in the process toward legally changing our laws.

Ron Paul hearing Youtube w/ improved audio

The first couple of minutes still have an issue, but the "out of phase" problem should be fixed in the rest of the video. I'm pretty sure I know why, so hopefully I can make sure future hearings are uploaded with better audio.

wrong embed

A mod should change the video link embedded above.. that video is of Peter Schiffs conference at the congressional jobs committee, not the Ron Paul conference with the Monetary Policy sub-committee

The Schiff post is here: http://www.dailypaul.com/178547/peter-schiff-testifies-befor...

Anyone else notice that Peter

Anyone else notice that Peter Schiff is the only person on the panel that didn't read off of a prepared statement?

The guys a pro.

Everyone else has a stack of papers in front of them. Peter has none lol!

** Please replace THIS RP 9/13/2011 Subcommittee youtube

with the one that is presently right beneath the thread title!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J2_opPwfqc

We need the correct video under this thread title for those who are interested in the Subcommittee hearing on Sound Money and HR 1098 - the Free Competition in Currency Act of 2011.

(The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform video - w/ Peter Schiff - should be under it's own title to avoid the confusion.)

Thanks!

Someone put together Schiff

Someone put together Schiff and his comments! AWESOME!

Schiff makes sense

Schiff is just so d*mn clear about what he's thinking. You know how once you fully understand something inside your head you don't need any notecards, practiced lines, or teleprompters? He so fully understands the economy that all he has to do is evaluate the people to whom he speaks in order to translate it in a way that they will understand.

In this case, he's speaking to elected congressmen, so he's trying to be as simple as possible.

Weiner

Heh, does the seat behind Professor Taylor say "Reserved For Weiner"?

Update: Oops, nope. He shifted and now I can see it. q-:

Great job by Peter Schiff!

Great job by Peter Schiff! Even mentioned Dr. Paul at one point. A video of just his responses would be great - could send that to a bunch of people!

FINALLY Peter Schiff gets to testify before Congress!

It is about time Congress heard testimony from someone that actually predicted the economic downturn that started in 2008! As many of you probably already know, Peter Schiff accurately predicted the recession back in 2006 and 2007! Can any of Obama's economic advisors say that? If your economic theory can't accurately predict what actually happens then your economic theory must be wrong!

If you haven't already, I would highly recommend checking out Peter Schiff Was Right 2006 - 2007 (2nd Edition):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I0QN-FYkpw

I also highly recommend checking out Peter Schiff's speech that he gave to mortgage bankers back in 2006:

The best part was at 1:07:45

The best part was at 1:07:45 minutes. That 5 minutes were priceless. He writes her a note and throws it at her...LOL

I KNOW!

Then she turns it upside down without looking at it, and then he turns it right-side up again! That poor woman was so freaking out of her league all she could do was spout nonsense.
I love how at the end when Schiff talks about how Ford paid his workers this outrageously high wage to keep them and there was no regulations, no income taxes, and so on, all she could say in conclusion was some pap about how it's too bad more employers don't pay their workers that way.

LOL

Yeah I saw that. I was laughing so hard, that it made me cry.

Wow, Peter was on fire!

It's a shame most people will find this discussion boring and never watch it, because it's a perfect example of the Keynes vs. Hayek viewpoints at odds. And yet this understanding is so vital to fixing our economic problems.

It was also hilarious seeing the panel thumb through reams of paper, citing various studies to support their positions. And by contrast Peter used only his brain to counter the so-called experts.

Unless Ron Paul! -Lorax

Great Point

Almost like watching the Keynes vs Hayak rap video!

Schiff also mentions RP's silver dime/ gas analogy around 1:30 in. He gets a lot of talking time around this timeframe.

agreed

I know more about economics listening to Peter Schiff for 5 minutes than I did reading Bernanke's college textbooks in college. Austrian > Keynesian

Peter Schiff's testimony

Peter Schiff's testimony starts at 31:12. It's amazing! Talks about everything wrong with the economy today, with detailed examples about how government interferences is making it worse.

Especially like how he points out that now when you hire an employee in addition to payroll expenses you now take on huge legal liability.

Moderator: shouldn't THIS youtube be on the OP to match

the title of the thread?

There are many who visit this thread who are interested in the Subcommittee hearing on Sound Money and HR 1098 - the Free Competition in Currency Act of 2011.

(The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform video should be under it's own title, imo.)

Poor audio has been a repetitive feature

of the hearings. I wonder if RP's staff could improve it in the future.

Peter Schiff hearing on YouTube

Here's the entire Oversight hearing featuring Peter Schiff:

If I have time I'll isolate Peter's remarks. I'm downloading Ron Paul's hearing, although it's with the same audio issues as some heard in the live feed.

Thanks!

That would be awesome if you can isolate Peter's statements.
