FDA to Ban Food Nutrients
Submitted by Maddy on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 06:54The FDA has issued a proposed mandate that represents the greatest threat to dietary supplements since 1994. Back in the early 1990s, consumers were so alarmed by FDA bullying that they staged a massive revolt. The result was that Congress passed a law prohibiting the FDA from banning popular nutrients (as the agency had threatened to do). There was, however, a loophole in the 1994 law. The FDA was given authority to regulate ingredients introduced after October 15, 1994. It has been 17 years, but the FDA just issued draconian proposals as to how it intends to regulate what it now calls "new dietary ingredients." If implemented, some of the most effective nutrients you are taking will be removed from the market. This includes many fish oil formulas and natural plant extracts.
Dominant Social Theme: Raw milk and fish oil can kill you. It is much better to eat "heart healthy" potato chips.

Stopped By My Rep's Local Office Today
I sat down is his lobby and wrote a note about this.
California is re-districting, so there may be some changes.
One of the staffers thought I looked familiar, and turns out she was a customer of mine in the mid-1980's when I managed an Egghead Discount Software store.
My rep has been in Congress for decades. Sometimes he votes correctly, many times he doesn't.

bridge issue
This is a bridge issue on which we can productively work with "granola liberals".
I am using this issue to build bridges to our views of limited federal government. You can too.

The FDA will not ban these
The FDA will not ban these items, they will just help create a monopoly for their pharma friends that want the nutriceutical profits for themselves. The products will be there, just way way more expensive and who knows what quality. There will likely be 2 or 3 different sources and that's it.

Here is how we can fight back. Call, Fax, Send letters, Email your representative now. This can't wait. We will all need supplements at sometime in our lives.

FDA JERKS
Hands off my body!
I live in a raw milk selling area
Local grocers, Amish markets, farm markets etc sell raw milk here in central PA, but you have to snoop them out. The raw milk is never advertised and its usually in an oddball area so that the big companies get the shelf space with their homogenized product. Big corporations like Kraft, Kellogg, unilever etc come into your store and con you into putting their products full of cheapo stuff at eye level to the consumer, while high quality stuff is relegated to out of sight places. I only take one drug that is generic zoloft/sertraline for an anxiety disorder. Its low dose and I refuse to take any more meds. My doc makes me take fish oils for lipid and triglyceride levels. I also take niacin to help as well. The FDA better not ban these because the public will go ape on them. Thousands of Americans take fish oil supplements for their heart health, yet you better believe the FDA makes them put that disclaimer on the bottles saying it doesn't treat disease. Yeah right, studies have already show how much fish oil works in treating high LDL levels.
Ron needs to make mention of how the FDA is doing this stuff. The American public will agree because they know the FDA is in it for the drug companies and big food

PA primary
TeaGuyTom, PA has a hybrid primary system. Are you doing the paperwork to get yourself on the ballot so people can vote for YOU in the primary?
Make it happen!
Thank you!

Closed Primaries
I'm pretty sure PA has a closed primary system. Its why I am a registered Republican. I can't vote in primaries unless I am affiliated with one of the two parties. Plus why would I have to get myself on the ballot in a hybrid system?

He has stated we don't need FDA and other agencies - they
over-regulate and interfere with the market. The market can handle it better!

The Goal Is To Weaken The Slaves So The Talmudic Slave
masters can hold onto you as slaves through the dawn of this new age. If you are too weak and sickly to stand up and fight these babylonians who are revealing themselves once again, then you will die or be forced into yet another 2,000 year age of slavery.
I heard the Pope resigned. If it's true all Law on Planet Earth has just been collapsed back to Natural Law, master and slave will have to work out a new contract defining which one will be master and which one will be slave in this new age.
I am done with slave, I choose to make my former masters my slaves. What about the rest of you slaves, want a career change?
The Oracle
The FDA has been after the supplements merchants for decades
Yes, most of these merchants sell overpriced placebos to idiots, but hey, that's the free market.
You can thank Arnold for the stop in the 90's. He used his mighty influence to protect his (and his pals') interests in pushing supplements to men with body dismorphia.
It is no coincidence that the FDA brings this up just after Arnold is out of office.
But no worry, Kevin Trudeau is ready to get infomerical (and pill selling) butt into politics. Read how he will fight "Big Pharm" and "Big Agriculture"...

RON PAUL IS THE PEOPLE'S CHAMPION!
You may be suffering
from a B vitamin deficiency or a shortage of omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Take some supplements, and your brain may recover normal function. Make it a priority.
Most supplement merchants sell placebos? Doing that is fraud under present law. No need to criminalize supplements if that is the case -- just enforce present laws against fraud.
If you trust government to put your health interests above the interests of the large pharmaceutical companies that give millions in campaign contributions, you would seem to be one of the people most inclined to buy overpriced placebos. And the interest of large pharmaceutical companies is for safe, natural, cheap and effective cures to be outlawed, so that they can sell you expensive, less-effective and less-safe patent medicines to treat your ills.
Did you know that NO vitamins or natural nutritional substances have ever been approved by the FDA? Truth. Such natural substances cannot be patented, and therefore there is no economic incentive for a supplement manufacturer to go through the long and money-intensive FDA approval process to win approval for a vitamin that his competitors may then produce at a lower price than he can (since his competitors won't have to raise their prices to recoup the costs imposed by the FDA).

Done
I wrote to my congressman. Make sure you guys do as well. Doesn't take too much time.
Don't know if it will do any good coz they are all sold out but we'll see.
Thinking about this... Honestly we should organize some "vote-em-out" campaign for the next election. I mean literally purging congress out of incumbents. Tea party did it to some extent but it was limited to a subset of republican representatives, not across the board. I keep seeing these nationwide poll numbers and congress keeps getting least amount of trust and approval from the people over and over again. Having some nation-wide , not-party-specific "vote against incumbent" rally. Maybe it's a pipe dream, but I guess tea party probably was if you were to ask someone 10 years ago.
Is there a Website
Is there a website that we can write to our Congressman? or is it the old pen and paper style? sorry it may be a stupid question but ill be writing them a lot more after I know..

What you can say to your Representative & Senators
Refer to this helpful guide when calling Members of Congress to express opposition to the FDA's Draft Guidance for Industry: Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredients Notification and Related Issues.
Talking Points/Script:
■My name is [Name] and I am a constituent of [Representative's name].
■I am very concerned about the new FDA draft guidance on dietary supplements and new dietary ingredients.
■I request that Congress direct the FDA to carefully review their draft guidance, and unless they amend the guidance to reflect my concerns, to call hearings at the end of the review process.
■When the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act was passed, Congress intended there be a simple notification system for new supplements. But now the FDA is turning it into a pre-approval scheme—one that Congress never intended. This will reduce the number of supplements sold and increase the cost of those that remain.
■I am simply asking that the FDA honor Congressional intent and protect my access to the supplements I depend on to stay healthy.
Mention at least one of the following points on your call:
■Congress recognized that dietary supplements are natural ingredients and therefore inherently safer than drugs and chemical food additives. It did not intend that the FDA would have the power to approve or reject dietary supplements.
■The FDA's draft guidance creates unnecessary regulations that limit my access to the dietary supplements I rely on. The expensive and burdensome process will force between 20,000 and 42,000 dietary supplements to be removed from the market and will increase the cost of those supplements that remain.
■The draft guidance hurts our economy. Expert analyses show that this guidance will cause a total economic loss of $21.2 billion to $39.8 billion annually.
Closing:
■Please keep close watch of the FDA to stop them from defying Congressional intent with their new draft guidance.
■Thank you for your time.
Tips:
■Be courteous and respectful.
■Keep your comments brief and focused on the facts.
■Always thank the staff member for their time taking your call.

You can always hit representatives website
And their form / email and other contact info is right there. I usually simply google the reps name and within the first few results is their .gov page on which I have links to their email.
If you're not sure who your rep is there are two websites you can visit :
For finding your congressman :

Yes
First, if you did not have time to listen all the way, start at 12 minutes and listen to his advice on what to say to them and how much better it is to make personal contact.
I think I'll drop by my congressional office, locally.
However, if you want a really easy way to contact your House and Senate reps, use the DownsizeDC.org 's Educate the Powerful System. Try this page http://www.downsizedc.org/tell-congress-what-to-do
If you sign up here, you can send messages to all three reps at once, and their "firewalls" are breached so your message gets through.
You'll like their other issues, too.
PS. Both Dr. Mercola's site, Mercola.com, and DownsizeDC, consider Ron Paul a hero for freedom.

I am bumping this
This is a HUGE issue and everyone on the DailyPaul needs to get involved and tell everyone they know. These criminals at the FDA need to be stopped. They just came out with the news (not news) that osteoporosis drugs are DANGEROUS. The FDA approved them years ago and we have known for years that they are dangerous and don't really build healthy bone but BIG PHARMA had to make lots of money first before the FDA would comment. Even then, the FDA is not taking them off of the market but just telling people to take "drug holidays." What a crock!

The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment...Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight. Prov 12:19,22
This could be a huge positive issue for Ron Paul
As I have been saying repeatedly, the issue of health freedom and access to supplements and raw milk and such could be a tremendous issue for Ron Paul to emphasize as much as possible.
Remember what happened back 1994 with DSHEA? A groundswell of support across the nation, including heavy support and publicity by celebritries, literally forced the adoption of the DSHEA act to insure access to dieatary supplements - to the great shock of the mainstream medicine goliath.
Even more people use dieatary supplements now even as they are coming under renewed attack, along with food items like raw milk. I think that these issues could get lots and lots of people, including celebrities, on board with Ron Paul.
See my article about Ron Paul being THE choice for health and food freedom:
http://www.tbyil.com/Ron_Paul_Health_Food_Freedom.htm
I think it is a great article to share on social networks and among friends and potential converts - and would make a good handout too.
