Texas Straw Poll Cancelled Due to "lack of interest?"

More likely to avoid embarassment for Perry!

"There seems little doubt that Ron Paul would have defeated Rick Perry in the Texas Straw Poll, sending out the embarrassing message that those who know Perry’s record best, lone star state voters, have no trust in his leadership. This would have been a massive blow to the perception of Perry’s electability nationwide."

Straw Pole next week?

I just heard on a Dallas Station that the republican straw pole for Texas was going to be next week near Houston? Anyone confirm this?

The Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll IS NOT CANCELLED

Perry is Governor only because he is a Republican.

Many people really don't like him, but they always vote for the party, not the person or policies. Texas is a Republican state.

There was a third party candidate in the last two governor races, which helped Perry stay in office.

Perry is Governor because switched to the Republican Party

We need to spread the word on this LIE.

Perry must really be running scared.

I guess he has to stay ahead of his record....

it just keeps catching up with him...

My reply from the Texas GOP:

Thank you very much for writing regarding a straw poll in Texas. There is a lot of misinformation circulating around the internet that you may have received. The state party held a straw poll in 2007, however, it lost money. We thoroughly investigated the possibility of holding one for 2012, including how much staff time it would take, cost of facilities, amount of hotel rooms the State Party would have to guarantee etc. We determined that the financial exposure to the Party would be several hundred thousand. This cost along with the fact that we could not get a majority of the candidates to commit to attending, led us to the conclusion that it was too much of a financial risk to hold. As the party was three quarters of a million dollars in debt when I took over last summer, I could not risk the Party falling back into financial distress. Another factor was that at the time we only had 7 full time staff members when typically the party has between 15 and 20 in an off year. It should be noted that this decision was made before all the candidates in the current field decided to run for office. For example, Governor Rick Perry at the time we made our decision had indicated he was not running for president. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call me directly here at the state party headquarters.

Thank you for writing and expressing your opinion, Steve Munisteri

From what I remember, he was the choice for chair for Paul supporters. He at least listened.

Cathy was doing her job in the exec committee and I got in, on "stage", Right behind her at her podium (long story, I was following Paul supporters and a worker led us around a back way to see better... was Last in line and wound up in front)... had Mechler and Munisteri buttons on... meaning "Anybody but Cathy" lol...

All I could think was "Please don't let me embarrass my district. Please don't let me embarrass my district..."

This next convention is looking to be fun. There are supporters there that I can't hold a candle to... like... all of them. Awesome people.

I got a response

I got a response back from the Texas GOP today, as I am sure many of you have. Ill post it up later.

CA Contributed the most so far

according to the article in this broken link h-ttp://oregoncapitolnews.com/blog/2011/09/19/oregonians-donate-321k-to-presidential-campaigns/

clip: (Portland, OR) Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has raised the most of all of the Republican candidates with $87,858. Ron Paul has raised the second-most with $24,508, while Newt Gingrich is third with $8,525.

Me thinks, thou doest protesteth...

...too much.

The "thou" being the Texas Republican Committee.

What a CORRUPT group of THIEVES.

Little scared of the TRUTH??? Huh???

Our own straw poll

I think it would be great if the campaign still put together some kind of convention to show Ron's support in Texas. He obviously has tons of supporters there and we could conduct our own straw poll and show that RP is true Texas conservative.

I should have read other comments

I should have read other comments before adding mine. Obviously you guys are a head of me. A convention, rally or march would be a great way to stick it to "the establishment" and show them their tricks to sway public's opinion wont work. The grassroots did such a great job of this in 2008 and its something we need to continue because the media, as much as they try, can't ignore it.

The headline should read...

"Perry is not the front runner in Texas, so the Straw Poll was cancelled". Sorry folks, nothing to see here, move along.

Million Man March On Austin Texas...AJ & Ron Paul in The Front

Maybe we need to generate our own protest and news by organizing a big freaking million man march on the city of Austin TX..

We do not need the Party establishment to host a Straw Poll.

Conservative political training organizations like Morton Blackwell’s Leadership Institute have long trained activists about the importance of straw polls, how to organize them, and how to win them – precisely because they help build campaign momentum, and are a true measure of grassroots support and campaign organization. The GOP only started to ignore them when Paul came along.

A common technique was for the College Republicans to host a straw poll at every campus in the state. Win, after win, after win – of just straw polls; it builds momentum for a campaign and attracts young people.

You don’t need the College Republicans either (though you might give them a chance); you can partner with any the Tea Party or any student group, and you can list ALL candidates on the ballot.

Imagine Youth for Ron Paul campaigning on their campuses, and winning over their fellow students. Could Ron Paul win straw polls at every campus in Texas? Yes! Youth for Ron Paul could show their elders in the GOP how to hold a fair straw poll. This will be less important for the votes it yields (out of state students, etc.) than for the campaign momentum, publicity, volunteers, and grassroots energy it generates.

If you want to learn how to do this, go the Leadership Institute’s Youth Leadership School (YLS). Yes, there will be some Necons there, but be polite and learn. It is a 501.3(c) so they can’t be too ideological. “Political technology is neutral.” Imagine if our movement took every advantage of opportunities to get better at communicating our message, and winning elections.

Paul ante portas.

Apparently they are STILL unaware of blowback

Give em hell boys.

This article is from June.

Why are they bringing it up now?

You made me click on it again to make sure I wasn't going insane. The Infowars article is dated Sept. 19, 2011.

...so do you base publish dates on comment dates? because Alex is commenting on it 3 months later. Which is fine, but it doesn't change the original date.

Ok, my bad

My mistake. I read this shortly after waking and missed the June 16 date in the article. How? I don't know. It's in bright blue!

Sorry. Especially for being being so antagonistic. I was in a bad mood about this because I thought it was yet another attempt at rigging things by the Statists. Now that I see what the deal really is, I agree. Why are they bringing it up now?

Please forgive me. But I do hope you can understand a little, when I click on the link and see the article dated as... September 19, 2011, I thought something wasn't right with Sandra. But there was something wrong with me! Not Sandra.

Sorry Sandra, dfwrider, and all.

Gallup is doing a straw poll in January

I just got the TEA Party volunteer request today.

"Lack of interest?"

I don't have cable (or satellite) TeeVee, so I don't get Jon Stewart's show, but I think it'll be very interesting to see his take on this.

They're running scared, and it's up to us to keep the pressure on!

we need to fight this

This needs to be plastered all over the local media in Texas. If they won't hold the poll, we need everyone in Texas to know why! Contact every Texas meetup group and have every member reach out to get this story covered by their local news station / newspaper. We can easily prove there is a ton of interest in the Texas straw poll ESPECIALLY because we have two Texans in the race and we need to show the media that along with this video from 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDnWT4gCJSE

This is a systematic attempt by those in power to pick and choose our leaders and we CAN NOT just take this. We need to fight this tooth and nail!

- Grow Mushrooms at Home

I remember this real well since I'm in this video. It was so intense being right there face to face with the republican parties dirty little tricks. Not only did this happen at the straw poll but this happened right before
I am seriously in the throws of organizing a real Texas straw poll for this year please feel free to contact me about this upcoming event also please visit the newly created facebook page here

If we wait too long we will surely perish!

The more the GOP tightens its grip, the more starsystems will slip through its fingers.

Become a delegate. Convince Debra Medina to run again.

That, or join the LP of Texas. They're doing great.
