Why a Texas straw poll MUST be held

There is no reason that a Texas straw poll can't be organized by liberty lovers, with every candidate invited, and all the rowdy GOP activists you can find. If people in Texas do so, remember you are the hosts, and must be courteous, and there is no guarantee Paul would win.

Why must this be done? Two reasons.

First, the straw poll in Florida doesn't really represent base support like straw polls are suppose to do, the Florida poll represents party insiders, with 30% going to existing party representatives, and the rest being limited in number and going out by lottery. It isn't open, doesn't represent base support among the activists, or actual GOP voters. It represents the already established machinary in Florida. Saying this will determine the election is ridiculous. A real straw poll in Texas must exist.

Second, there is every reason for party big wigs to try to push a Florida straw poll like this while getting rid of the one in Texas.

The one in Texas is the state of both of the frontrunners. It is the only one that would therefore actually mean anything. Futhermore, Paul is polling ahead of Perry in Texas. It would be hightly embarassing for Perry to lose a straw poll in his own state, that is why they don't want to do the straw poll. But it is also the only one that TRULY shows the difference in support of the two men, because they are both from Texas.

Futhermore, it is clear this is happening in Texas. They also tried to gerrymander Ron Paul out of his district in Texas this year. He said he was going to retire after that, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a vile thing of Rick Perry in the GOP in Texas to try to do.

Hold a big big big Straw Poll - big as in Texas big, and win it for Ron Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got this response to my critical email to TX GOP:

Thank you very much for writing regarding a straw poll in Texas. There is a lot of misinformation circulating around the internet that you may have received. The state party held a straw poll in 2007, however, it lost money. We thoroughly investigated the possibility of holding one for 2012, including how much staff time it would take, cost of facilities, amount of hotel rooms the State Party would have to guarantee etc. We determined that the financial exposure to the Party would be several hundred thousand. This cost along with the fact that we could not get a majority of the candidates to commit to attending, led us to the conclusion that it was too much of a financial risk to hold. As the party was three quarters of a million dollars in debt when I took over last summer, I could not risk the Party falling back into financial distress. Another factor was that at the time we only had 7 full time staff members when typically the party has between 15 and 20 in an off year. It should be noted that this decision was made before all the candidates in the current field decided to run for office. For example, Governor Rick Perry at the time we made our decision had indicated he was not running for president. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call me directly here at the state party headquarters.

Thank you for writing and expressing your opinion,
Steve Munisteri

Are you seriously cancelling the Straw Poll this year? When you have TWO homestate guys in the top three of the GOP race? If so, it reeks of anti-Ron Paul sentiment (or pro-establishment), as he surely would whip up on Rick Phony Perry pretty good.

You all ought to be ashamed.

Cancelling TX straw poll was gigantic defeat for Rick Perry.

But at the same time, just anyone can "announce a straw poll" and on their own terms make it so that Perry wins (or Paul for that matter!) . How much media attention THAT would get is anyone's guess.

Hold one in every university

Hold one in every university in Texas like discussed in the other threads, cumulating in some big event. It would be kindof hard to ignore having so much momentum.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

And at every straw poll,

And at every straw poll, mention it is to help replace the one they cancelled.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

I agree,

But liberty loving Texans might well have to do their own straw poll.
