The Hill: When Rick Perry drops out: Ron Paul could be 2nd Place

By Brent Budowsky - 09/26/11 09:55 AM ET

I wrote in August that Rick Perry will self- destruct within 30 days. His prospects for the presidency were as phony as the fantasy of a two-person race was false. Perry is a phony conservative who is not conservative. He is a pay-for-play politician who gobbled up Obama stimulus like a hound dog eating a bone, and created oceans of new government jobs in Texas while his big donors mysteriously received big government contracts. The Texas deficit ballooned and the Texas jobless rate doubled on Rick Perry's watch.

I will not speculate about the reasons for Rick Perry' s strange, weird and incoherent debate performance. Major new negative stories about Perry will soon emerge in the media. Trust me. Perry will drop out long before the year ends. If he dropped out today Ron Paul could well be in second place. Will pundits say it is a two-man race between Romney and Paul?

hey bobby...

I really appreciate all your posts. I'm on mobile though. Is there any way you could post the link to where it is on the front page to? I have a terrible time navigating and typing with this damn phone. No biggie if not.

Thanks again for all your posts. :)

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

It really doesn't matter

This is all just theater and propaganda.

The MSM and the GOP will do anything to destroy Ron Paul. Anything.

They will always have the front runners as they decide who are the front runners.

We need to continue to build the base, change ideas, one person at a time. Every person connecting to the message of freedom, peace and liberty is a life long supporter. We will win when our numbers are there. Go change some minds!

2nd place

Ron may be in 2nd if perry drops but if perry drops gingrich who is probably the smartest of the lot will soar and Ron will not be 2nd......palin and chris? he won't run .he can't beat obama .he is more polarizing than palin.. she would be a fool to run..women on the left hate her..minorities and palin..??ugh..Ron is a long shot ..still..

Debbie's picture

I don't believe Gingrich will soar at all. I think he is in the

race to promote others like Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum, both war-mongers.

If Perry does

If Perry does dropout...Christie and/or Palin will jump right in to fill the void.

Lets hope that he drops out after the deadline.

I can dream can't I? ; )

I was also predicting

Rick Perry would self-destruct quickly. He's too arrogant and he's got too much baggage.

When Rick Perry quits, Ron Paul will be in 1st Place

I just wanted to say that I have hope that America has woken up to the decay of the old government ways. That Americans will pick Ron Paul who will fix and overhaul this government. Perhaps we will have at least 4 or 8 years of peace.

Peace? What's that? In my

What's that?

In my lifetime, the only true time of peace was during president Ronald Reagan's 2 terms.

The worst thing that ever happened while Reagan was president (domestically) was the Challenger explosion....

"The Endeavor for the Discovery of the new Atlantis...all Challenger's will be destroyed."

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

If Ron Paul was in second place would they still ignore him?

Would they talk about front runner - Mitt Romney.

And second tier Bachman, Cain, Gingrich, Santorum and Huntsman.

Perfect excuse "We didn't mention Ron Paul because we were only talking about the top and second tiers. You see Ron Paul is actually on tier 1.5 so he wasn't included in the story."

Its not far-fetched - remember the TWO incidents where the top four names in the race were given EXCEPT in Rons spot which was skipped over.

Yes, they will still ignore him.

They will simply treat Romney as the inevitable nominee, and move on to other topics. They will report primary results as a passing footnote.

They did this last time to Paul after Romney dropped out.

"Perry is a phony

"Perry is a phony conservative who is not conservative."

So was Bush. So was McCain. Most republicans don't care anymore whether their guy is an actual idealogical conservative or not. It doesn't even matter to them if their gu is a big government socialist like Bush was, the only thing that counts is their blind partisan prejudices, just beat the democrats, that's all that matters to most.

But Perry

doesn't have a chance of beating Obama! Romney does.

Fact #1: We want Obama out of

Fact #1: We want Obama out of the WH.

Fact #2: According to the political map for 2012 election, there are about 8 election battle states, the rest usually go either Red, or Blue...

Based on the maps above, Obama has more than 240 electoral votes guaranteed for him.. He only needs less than 31 to win..

Fact #3: The difference between the number republican votes and the Democrat votes in the battle ground states is usually less than 5% of the total vote for that state.. for example, 52% R vs 48%D.

FACT #4: Ron Paul has at least 10-15% of republican supports.

Fact #5: 99% of Ron Paul supporters will NOT vote for any other candidate in the general election.

Come election day, Ron Paul supporters stay home or write in his name on the ballot (10-15%) of republicans. ( assuming his current support)
Another 10% of independents stay home (they support Ron Paul)..
that adds up to about 7-10% of the votes that was supposed to go to republicans will not be cast in the battle ground states. Which will guarantee Obama win..
No other Republican candidate can get the support of All republicans against Obama, other than Ron Paul..

If you want Obama out. Nominate Ron Paul. If you Vote for anyone else, you are voting for Obama....

The only way this works is if Ron is on the ballot in those

States anyway.

If he isn't, and if those States do not allow write-in votes, then that means Ron's 10-15% there is staying home or otherwise - not factoring into the count.

This means the election will be between those that are counted and the Republicans would still have an honest shot at it.

Thus, not only in these battleground states but every state, there should be an effort to secure ballot access for Ron on an independent or 3rd party line. Thus, he will be on the General Election ballot, and people will be able to vote for him. Ron doesn't have to work for this himself, he just has to not thwart us.

The only place where his own actions might be an issue is if the State requires his consent to be placed on the ballot. If this has to happen before the GOP primaries are over, he may not agree to it.

No one is talking about 3rd

No one is talking about 3rd party run here.. we want Ron to be the republican nominee.. If you read what I wrote above, and if you seriously want obama out, you would support Ron Paul and spread these numbers.. Ron is the only one who can win against Obama.. If you understand that, I am sure you can convince many Republicans, or even Democrats who fed up with Obama..
On top of it, Ron can convert some of the blue states to Red.. He has great support from the Independants.

Of course I understand that and of course I support his bid

for the GOP nomination.

But if our 10-15% is going to have an impact if he doesn't get the nomination, we need to have plan already in place. This cannot wait till after the GOP convention. In some states, it can't even wait till after all the primaries are over.

If we want to vote for Dr. Paul - no matter what - then we need to get him on the ballot anyway, or at least be prepared to move at a moments notice to do so, and know the rules and procedures for each state.

I'm not interested in a 3rd party run either. I'd rather see him get the GOP nod. But if he doesn't, the calculations above will not work. In order to throw the election if he isn't the GOP nominee, he needs to be on the ballot anyway.

maps look about right

however, I think Ron Paul may be able to put some of the blue states in play unlike the other republicans

I agree.. Most of the

I agree..
Most of the independants who voted for Obama in 08 will not vote for him if Ron Paul is running..

Romney Can Not Win

Romney can not win with out the Christian voters and he can not and will not get their votes. IMO

I just graduated Southwestern

I just graduated Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and I think that most Christian voters will in fact vote for Romeny, despite the fact that he is nothing but another big government socialist. As long as he makes anti-abortion noises and keeps saber rattling about the evil muslims and need to keep eternal war going I'm guessing most of the people I graduated with will vote republican, as always.

YOU need to stay in touch and

YOU need to stay in touch and keep talking to them. Can you organize a little "meet the candidate" thong on campus to discuss Ron?

Unfortunately that would be

Unfortunately that would be akin to heresy in those particular circles. Evangelicalism is probably the strongest stronghold of the neocons right now. I raised a lot of objections to turning the church into basically an auxillary of the republican party but it will take a lot of time and exposure to ideas that most of them aren't open to.

There are a few

who won't support him because he's Mormon. I suspect it's not as many as people think, though.

The author was right on the money until he brought up Daniels.

Barely heard of the guy, and his record isn't great. One commenter pointed out Daniels ( or any other nominee ) would get 30% of the Republican vote, the people that always vote Republican. But only Paul will bring in the independent and dis-affected Democrats.

Perry 2012 = Giuliani 2008

Perry 2012 = Giuliani 2008

Contrary to probably what most folks on this board believe, I do not believe Romney is an Insider.

He basically is a good man, he is just deceived.

It is very possible to be a very good man, well educated, and just plain deceived.

Since the Mormon church's mission is not to expose the tyranny in government, but to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, there are hundreds of thousands of smart, righteous men and women who are deceived by the craftiness of men.

Romney is one of them. Many in the church are awakened, but most are not, and are being told what to think directly in proportion to how much they watch the MSM.

But because Romney is not sold out, is not a Bilderberg, is just deceived into thinking socialism is good, is not "controlled" by a blackmailable past, it is for these reasons that Romney gets abused as much as Ron Paul whenever it appears he might become the front runner. In 2007, he was constantly getting Ron Paul'd by the MSM, esp just prior to Iowa, where Huck was the talk, and then next in NH when McCain became the front runner, despite being in Romney's backyard.

So I can guarantee that if/when Rick Perry drops out, Romney will never become the ordained front runner. There will be another sent to replace Perry, be it Christie or whomever.

But I do believe of all the candidates who are running, that Romney's followers are more apt to vote for RP than the others, should Mitt exit the race.

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a rEVOLution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford

Romney's just another

Romney's just another corporate empty suit. A Romney presidency would be identical to Obama, just like Obama's is almost identical to Bush's. Hilary, Huckabee, Palin, or Perry, there isn't a dime's worth of difference between them. The choice is not between democrat and republican, the choice is between Ron Paul or the CIA/Pharmaceutical/insurance/oil lobby.

"Romney is basically a good

"Romney is basically a good man". Sorry I don't agree with you. Anyone who thinks it's ok to throw a person(especially a guy in a wheelchair) in jail for smoking cannabis is complete POS. No exceptions!

If you don't believe Romney is a POS then watch this:

Ron Paul talking with the same guy:
