How many here ran for office?Submitted by Benjamin Vander Jagt on Sat, 10/01/2011 - 21:20
We have quite a varied group on DailyPaul. I used to assume that it's very rare to run for public office, and only the well-connected life-long politicians need apply.
When I ran for City Council, I was the only challenger, and I ran as a write-in from the Libertarian party against a Democrat incumbent. I lost with 11% of the vote. (Pretty good, I think.) The local paper asked whether anyone else in my family was into politics. My answer was something like, "No...well, my mom ran for Governor of Maryland. Oh, and my great uncle was a US Congressman. Um, and my aunt was a legislator. And we've had party officers, newsletter writers, and other candidates. Well, I guess my answer is 'yes'."
Talking to people here, I get the same feeling that I'm among truly energized people.
Have you run for office or requested a party's nomination? How was your experience? Would you do it again? If you haven't, are you considering it?
