Ron Paul Interview with Dylan Ratigan MSNBC - 10/5/11

My problem with the amendment is that without the ability to self-advertise or properly mobilize your efforts (let's assume the average Joe is the one campaigning, not the already wealthy) then your sole source of recognition will come via the media. I think the result would be even worse corruption as the media gets bought by those seeking favors. It effectively removes the average person from endorsing their candidate in any way possible other than election day, which is too late.

Not something I would endorse, but if someone wanted to go that route then I would say a closer fit would be you can't receive campaign contributions from anyone outside your proposed district. Again, I wouldn't endorse it, but it'd make more sense than removing everyone from the process.

If as per amendment no one can contribute then how will the candidates campaign? This is very strange. The only way they can campaign is through their own money or govt's i.e. tax money which means that either they be extremely rich or people are coerced through taxation so that they can learn more about the politicians. Maybe i am missing something.

It seems making this illegal will only mean that donations will be made in secret because the costs have to be borne in some other way. This is more dangerous because this will ensure systematic exclusion of individuals who donate their hard earned money in small amounts to effect change. Only people who are ready to spend tonnes to get some benefit will donate in secret somehow without the transparency that the system has now. Also only people who are rich or ready to take money from big corporations will run for office. Hence we will have neither moral/principled donors nor moral/principled politicians.

If we want to get money out of politics the easiest thing to do is to follow the constitution and nullify and repeal unconstitutional regulations and eliminate lobbying.

If that were law, then Campaign for Liberty would be forced out of commission. And if we sent money to someone to produce an advertisement for Ron Paul or for a money bomb, we could be jailed.

Ratigan is crazy.

Ratigan says he is concerned a smaller government is easier to buy... what a load of horse crap! Corporations want a big, powerful government so it can intervene on their behalf. A small, limited government has no power to bailout it's friends and regulate competitors out of business. Silly Socialists!

Anyone know? I've seen something things around the internet suggesting he is.

He wants the tea party blessing on OWS. If Ron can show common ground we might be able to pick up support from Dems.
