Chicago Sun Times: Ron Paul’s budget cuts put U.S. on right track

"The contrast between the so-called super committee’s goal and Paul’s plan shows how pathetic official Washington’s gestures of fiscal responsibility are. Paul’s detailed numbers refute the myth that the budget cannot be balanced without raising taxes while challenging his opponents to put up or shut up.

Paul’s plan not only extends the tax cuts enacted under the Bush administration; it reduces the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 15 percent while abolishing taxes on inheritances, capital gains and personal savings. It nevertheless manages to eliminate the budget deficit within three years, largely by reducing military spending; capping most programs at 2006 levels, converting Medicaid and other welfare programs into block grants, and eliminating five departments: Commerce, Education, Energy, Housing and Urban Development and Interior."

Alert! I need your help on an Anti-Ron Paul article...

I was going thru the the San Francisco Chronicle and came across an article on RP's Budget Plan titled "The Hidden Utility of Ron Paul's Balanced-Budget Plan." He goes on to negatively describe what the US would be like if RP's plan is put into action..here is an excerpt...

Such radical reductions in revenue would make it hard to run the vast federal bureaucracy. True to his libertarian principles, Paul takes care of that problem by trimming the federal workforce by 10 percent -- and giving it far less to do. He would, for example, seek to repeal both the Dodd-Frank financial reform law and President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act, along with eliminating many environmental and other federal regulations.

What's wrong with this? It doesn't take much work to paint a dystopian picture. Let's begin with a simple example. Without an Interior Department, there would be no agency to oversee national parks, federal lands and offshore drilling. Land would have to be auctioned off to the highest bidders, most likely oil-and-gas, coal and timber companies. The states would inherit Teddy Roosevelt's national parks, but imagine how Yosemite would fare if it suddenly became the ward of strapped California.

Or let's imagine another scene from Mr. Paul's America. Each state would have to become the regulator of its financial, manufacturing and health-care industries. A patchwork of rules would result. States might soon engage in a dangerous game of regulatory competition: Some would ease rules to attract businesses, forcing those seeking to protect the health and pocketbooks of residents to lower their standards -- or lose jobs. Illinois might choose, say, to let manufacturers dump waste in the Mississippi River. What recourse would downstream Missouri, Tennessee or Louisiana have if their drinking water became polluted?

Why "End the Fed?"

2% Cuts Cause Coniptions

The generals have been too long off the field to be so defensive about a measly 2% cut.

Glad to see Chicago is

Glad to see Chicago is opening their eyes! Im glad they took the time to note that Ron Paul is the only candidate with a plan to get us on track while the others just talk about doing it!

I am sorry, but this isn't a good article.

Ron Paul does manage to cut our deficit by around 400 billion with this plan. But the only reason the budget gets balanced is because he is anticipating GDP going to 20 trillion within 4 years. That is a very pie-in-the-sky estimation, especially considering the recent trend of very modest growth!

The current trend of very modest growth

will continue under current leadership. Paul's plan rightly presumes a changed political climate in which people begin to have confidence again.

Ron Paul has mentioned time

Ron Paul has mentioned time and time again his pessimistic view of America's short-term prospects. He talks about letting the bad debt liquidate itself, which will cause short-term problems.

Our growth for the past decade is by some large percentage fabricated. Easy money, hot money, was flooding the economy. That isn't there any more.

In addition, while there has always been a new, growing sector to invest in, what is that now? Social media?

Yes, banks are not lending out money. But companies are not spending money, and demand for credit is very low. People are rightfully questioning the invest-first think-later approach. Moreover, since the middle class and lower class have been devastated, they're seeing demand shrink up.

Even if you disagree with that, do you really think that 25% growth in 4 years is achievable? We haven't had Real GDP growth that good in years...

That

was such a good (and surprising, to me) read that I decided to send the article link--and Ron Paul's Press Conference youtube video link--to my local newspaper.

The first 5 million supporters of Dr. Paul are 'early adopters.' The next 10 million will require a modified approach.

Excellent article.

Really shows how Dr. Paul has stepped up and presented a viable plan.

This is a big deal

Chicago is not exactly a bastion of RP support. He's NEVER mentioned in either papers, Sun Times or Tribune.

And the comments are overwhelmingly in our favor. I wonder if it'll make the print edition.
