Republican Sen. Rand Paul may not have the clout in Congress to reach his goal of eliminating the Department of Education, but he can do a close second: shut down the Senate committee trying to pass sweeping new federal education legislation.

The Kentucky senator dug deep into the procedural arsenal Wednesday to halt the committee that was meeting to revamp the No Child Left Behind legislation.

The bill has broad bipartisan support and was expected to clear the panel later this week. Senate rules limit committee meetings to two hours while the Senate is in session – a rule that is routinely broken with unanimous agreement of the senators. But as is the case in the Senate, any one senator has the power to object. On Wednesday, Paul did just that.

I couldn't finish the video....

...because Al Franken nauseates me.

No Child Left Behind? Rand Paul left every Senator behind here!

This hypocrisy was exposed with the didactic skill of a great educator.

This is why I gave to Rand's campaign.

He is doing good work.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Woah - awsome Rand.

The article in the L.A. times is incredibly distorting, though.

I was thinking the same

I was thinking the same thing. If only Ron could get his message across the way Rand does. He is absolutely amazing at speaking. I love hearing Rand when he is worked up, it only helps his message delivery. I don't think I heard one single stutter. Rand is sure going to be something!

I'm not Rand's greatest fan

I'm not Rand's greatest fan but this was brilliant! If only we could take the hardcore principle of his father and combine it with his brilliant delivery.

What an inspiration...

... phenomenal. Now the other senator from Kentucky needs to be recycled.

Only corrupt, evil people...

...could possibly not agree with Rand.

It's so obvious.

Just goes to show you how sociopathic our Congress is. Truly, these sinister people have no conscience.

The big challenge for Rand will be to remain pure and unblemished as he sits among some of the worst people in America.

Their corrupting influence must be extreme.

It's truly a remarkable tribute to Ron Paul that he has not succumbed to the temptation to sell his soul. He is a great man.

Ron Paul will get elected......

but it's also nice to know there is another Paul for a future generation to run for the white house. Between the two of them we might just get this country running again.

Ride separate planes!

I just hope they never board the same plane.

Go Rand, go!

Do not relent!!

Thank you Rand. Keep fighting

Thank you Rand. Keep fighting the good fight!

The days grow shorter
and the nights are getting long
Feels like we're running out of time
Every day it seems much harder
tellin' right from wrong
You got to read between the lines

Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we pay

The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heart

Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to do

CHORUS:
Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only way

All your life you've been waiting for your chance
Where you'll fit into the plan
But you're the master of your own destiny
So give and take the best that you can

You think a little more money
will buy your soul some rest
You'd better think of something else instead
You're so afraid of being honest with yourself
You'd better take a look inside your head

Nothing is easy, nothing good is free
But I can tell you where to start
Take a look inside your heart
There's an answer in your heart

"Ineptocracy: a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confisc

What's the word I'm looking for?

Interesting. A bible verse and then a little guy flipping the bird. Confirms what I know about believers. Is the word I am looking for juxtaposition, contradiction, or hypocrite?

moron

I think the word you're looking for is illiterate- which is what you apparently are. There's no contradiction between that bible verse and the anger a man might feel towards the actions of McCain the criminal. And seeing as how the poster isn't himself a big government pushing, constitution shredding politician, he can't really be accused of hypocrisy in his condemnation of McCain. Do you often use words without knowing what they mean?

But anyway, nice totally unjustified attack on a fellow Ron Paul supporter and his religion for no apparent reason other than to vent your personal hatred. Confirms what I know about non-believers.

The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt

How are you any better?

For one, you've resorted to using personal attacks ("moron") and then you go on to say that this person "confirms what you know about non-believers". Nice generalization.

A signature used to be here!

Yall confirm what I know

Yall confirm what I know about people. They are a disagreeable bunch. Let's work together for a good purpose, one that failing will be extremely painful for us and future generations!

Reminds me of...

Freaking beautiful. Thank you

Freaking beautiful. Thank you Rand!

I have to say that anytime

I have to say that anytime Rand does something "radical" I stand and applaud. He is new at this but he is continually a pain in the senate's butt. I am sure most of them wish he would sit down and shut up! Go, Rand, I support you 100%.
Reminds me of the song: The Day My Momma Socked It To The Harper Valley PTA!
Aged myself there, didn't I?! lol

Wow!!!! Now this is a REAL representative! Neither of my

senators represent me at all. Here is a man actually working FOR the PEOPLE! If the rest of Congress and the Senate had this much integrity, we would not be in this mess! GO RAND!!!

Who the hell writes these

Who the hell writes these bills? Congressmen vote on bills they don't read. Obviously they are not writing these bills. So who is? Where are these bills coming from?

If I were in Congress, I would vote against any bill that I couldn't read. How can any politician defend voting for a bill he or she hasn't read? And how can the American people re-elect jackasses like this?

Any bill over 10 pages needs to be rejected. The less bills that Congress passes, the better off we are.

Generally rascals seeking public favors write favorable rules.

Rascals write rules... hoping to be anointed into laws, that others must obey. Governments are used to force others to obey.

It the USA, most rules never make it into law. We are being forced to obey administrative procedures, protocols, & codes.

Always long line of rule makers hankering & jockeying for position. Seldom, but sometimes noteworthy, some laws do get repealed.

I agree in many ways but

I agree in many ways but people have to get involved it their political processes in a local, county, state, and federal level!

hope for the best

Right on Rand!

Right on Rand!

I suppose Rand isn't going to

I suppose Rand isn't going to be too popular on the Senate playground.

This is what upsets me most about Washington.

Bills are supposed to be debated and or have hearings before they are voted on so that all pros, cons, and political mischief can be established.

The debates and hearings may be slow and cumbersome but this is for a good reason. This allows a cool off period for bills that are introduced in a knee jerk reaction to an unfavorable event or popular outcry. It also allows public pressure to be put on your representatives if need be.

I'm sorry but if any representative vote yes for a bill Forty Eight hour or less after the first time they receive the bill, (even a repetitive bill) That representative should be put into question. Forty Eight Hours is just a relative number for this argument.

Let's look at a small aspect of TARP and how it was passed. First came this media fueled the sky is falling on the economy sensationalism. Next came this monstrous bailout bill out of nowhere as an answer to the knee jerk hysteria. The bill was voted down at first. But wait the bill wasn't good enough. Let's add a bunch of earmarks and other silly wasteful stuff to it pulse put a threat that if it is not passed martial law will be passed.

The larger bills with significant impact on the people need to have a thorough debate and hearing on it. Even in an event that a declaration of war is brought up and might be needed, congress still has ninety days (or used to) to debate the significance and impact of it.

Even if an action might be needed before congress can act there is sill the local and state governments to pick up the gaps a needed. These governments are more efficient and should have the most impact on a person.

Maybe if the schools were allowed and encouraged to teach the structures and responsibilities of our governments, be it local, county, state or federal, then maybe we might be better off. The simplest rule that should be taught is that your local government will be the most constrictive on you and your federal government should be protecting your liberty and inherent rights from the other government's intrusions on them.

hope for the best

Also notice the gaping chasm

Also notice the gaping chasm between what Senator Paul actually said and what the LAtimes reported he said. The disconnect between the two is mind boggling!

The LA Times is a good reason why I have resorted to looking almost exclusively at First hand C-SPAN testimony over reading some person's recollection and political commentary and on what was said.

Ahh yes the article was a bit

Ahh yes the article was a bit to chew on. The whining of Dem Senators that if we don't pass this bill right now, that only 9 out of every poor 100 kids go to college!

Well... if it didnt cost so damn much, they would be able to go... Duhhhh. That has nothing to do with govt student loans and pumping money into the university system to create a bubble would it?

noooo of course not.
