The series Columbo is a great example of how to use the Socratic method in debates and disagreements. Listen for examples in the following clips.
My Grandpa was the type of person you couldn't lie to because he would use this very method to find the truth. For example, "There's something I don't understand. Could you explain to me how you were at the movies with your friends when Mrs. Smith saw you at the store?"
Here's another example. "Ron Paul is a lunatic who would take us back to the dark ages." Your response. "Oh sir, there is a lot of fear around changes. Could you explain to me how he's a lunatic? ......."
