West continued to dig his own

West continued to dig his own grave when he said it was Wall Street that put the pressure on Washington to cause his mess, but his conclusion is that we should only go after Wall Street and not the government who basically gave them the okay.

Is he thinking critically or just reciting talking points to push an agenda?

Yeah, Wall Street wouldn't be

Yeah, Wall Street wouldn't be so quick to come to Washington if the Fed did provide such easy money. Of course they are attracted to no-risk market distortion.

Without Washington and the Fed, Wall Street would have no choice to run solvent businesses (use good practices or meet their demise).

Peter at OWS

I saw a video of Peter trying to educate the people at occupy wall street. After Peter started pointing out the flaws in their socialist propaganda, someone said, "OK, what is YOUR solution, then?" Peter simply responded "Liberty. Freedom." It was awesome!

People like West can't understand that their big government policies are the antithesis of liberty. In the effort for "fairness", they are creating a governmental system that makes us all slaves in some form or another.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

what peter shiff should UNDERSTAND...

is that EVERYBODY in that square is paying HALF of their wages to taxes...EVERYBODY!

now, he pays half of his 3 million dollars a year, or whatever he makes, in taxes...hooray!

trade places in the square with the guy who makes 30 thousand dollars a year and pays HALF of THAT in taxes and then, THEN he can have the right to feel their pain

they live this life EVERYDAY and you, mr. shiff, visited it once in your lifetime

shiff should have stayed home on this one or felt a little more compassion for the people that might tend to like him or his father

9/11 Truth.

That's not even close to

That's not even close to true.

Misinformed

50% of all working Americans pay no federal taxes. It is called the progressive tax system. It is what we currently have.

ecorob's picture

the system is screwed up...

i'll be the first to admit it

but, if you work and make a little money (the middle class) you get screwed on taxes

to say that 50% of our work force makes so little money as to not pay any taxes speaks volumes to the poor state of our country

i agree with you, its sad
(i am also not that misinformed)

9/11 Truth.

Yes, It is very sad

But making enemies of the rich is not wise. They will always win!

everybody pays half, if what you assume is right

some sit at home and rage, while some go out and do more than their fair share and get criticized.

ecorob's picture

i don't assume it, sir...

my paycheck is taxed roughly a third

from what i take home i pay a 10% tax on EVERYTHING i buy here in tennessee

to me, 1/3 = 33%

33% + 10% = 43%

thats just about half, we all pay it

next question

...and your employer has to

...and your employer has to pay you enough extra that you can cover your 43% tax. If he didn't, you wouldn't take the job. So who is really paying those taxes?

yep, Peter made an ass of himself.

show up in a thousand dollar suit you bought because you figured out how to game a corrupt system and march around a protest of pissed off unemployed Americans with a sign stating you are the 1%. Peter you are a turd.

Ron Paul on Occupy Wall Street:
“But I think that the majority of them think government is the problem and taxes are too high and they know that the Federal Reserve plays a role in this, which, of course, is something I agree with.”

lol

In another post you thanked him for showing up, and now he's a turd? LOL

It's bad enough that half of your posts are direct copypastes of your previous posts. I've lost count of how many times I've scrolled past the "Occupy is NOT a specific group of people!" post, among others.

Do you ever post about anything other than OWS?

A signature used to be here!

I completely disagree. He

I completely disagree. He opened a dialogue, presenting arguments that many, if not all, OWS protestors were completely unfamiliar with. That makes him the opposite of a turd.

ecorob's picture

the premise of his argument was noble...

his plan of action sucked!

exactly!

Peter made an ass of himself. He knows the system is corrupt. He knows the folks there should be upset. Showing up in a suit with a "I'm the 1%" sign was pathetic and stupid.

Ron Paul on Occupy Wall Street:
“But I think that the majority of them think government is the problem and taxes are too high and they know that the Federal Reserve plays a role in this, which, of course, is something I agree with.”

I disagree. His plan of

I disagree. His plan of action drew attention to his argument. Attention is what this argument needed.

maybe if you work harder and know you have a future

you wouldn't have nearly as much envy against the successful.. no one cares if that pisses off your lazy friends. get over it. im in my mid 20s with no masters but see great development in my 'marketable' skills because i work hard. i work alone while some of these guys with 2 masters walk the streets with mommy and daddy paying the bill. get a life.

nothing wrong with this argument...

i like it

9/11 Truth.

grow up.

Our banking and political system is CORRUPT. Ron Paul will NOT get the nomination and he will run third party because the system is bought. I know it, you know it, and the people at Occupy know it. It's a corrupt system, so I don't give a damn if you have "worked hard" and played the good slave. I'm no longer in the mood to play along with the corruption and it seems I'm not alone. If you are comfortable serving your masters, fine, step aside and let the rest of us fix the corruption.

Ron Paul on Occupy Wall Street:
“But I think that the majority of them think government is the problem and taxes are too high and they know that the Federal Reserve plays a role in this, which, of course, is something I agree with.”

I disagree

It makes my skin crawl when I here people talk about forcing the wealthy to "pay their fair share." They already pay a higher percentage than me. How is that fair? I'm very far from being wealthy, but it is still disturbing to see the mobs wanting to take from the wealthy. Some of the wealthy earned their money honestly and provide a lot in return.

If you want fairness, fight for a limited government that gives everyone equal treatment, and doesn't distort the free market. If someone gets rich in a free market system on their own merits, then they have earned it fairly and the mobs with pitchforks shouldn't be able to legally take it away.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

-C. S. Lewis

Wealthy don't pay taxes. Where did you here that?

People who make over $2.5 million a year don't pay taxes, according to my CPA. They have too many loopholes and write-offs.

"I support the Declaration of Independence and I interpret the Constitution."

How about from the CBO?

https://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=5746&type=0&sequence=1#table2

According to the CBO, the top 1% are responsible for paying for 21% of total federal liabilities. The effective federal rate for the top 1% is 25% compared to an effective rate of -3% for the bottom 20%. Yes, that's right, the bottom 20% already have a NEGATIVE effective federal tax rate. That's "fair" right?

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

sure, why not...

if you make 2.5 million a year and you cant figure out how to write off donations to "trusts" and "endowments" in lieu of taxes

sent to a place where you or your family are the benefactors you won't have your money for very long

Peter won!

Plain and Simple.

My comment to the accountant

when he stated that he likes a progressive income tax....
So did Karl Marx. Its the second plank of the communist manifesto.... A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

Ill bring the coffee if someone can bring the cognac. That was awesome.

Progressive taxation

In his center-seat appearance even RP critisized the sales tax in Cain's 9-9-9 plan as being regressive; insinuating that a progressive tax system is better.

Tax is theft but it's still marginally better to take away someone's Armani-suit-money then someone's food-money.

yeah, they aren't all

...getting my support

i didn't like that, either

Schiff Vs. West Debate

Two very different ways of thinking, and no doubt they would engage each other. There is an event coming up around the 7th of November that Peter sent out an invitation to someone else (can't remember) offering to pay for their expenses (including flight) if that individual would come debate him. That person didn't respond.

Cornell West said, "I wish we had more time, I want to debate my brother directly on this."

Well, there ya go. I think if Peter did well, this could be a good WIN for liberty; there'd be a lot of collateral discussion.

If you'd like to see that debate, send your thoughts to Peter and West below:

I love how they play

I love how they play background noise when Peter talks. They do the same thing with Ron Paul.

So rude these evil bastards.
