Ron Paul Open Letter to President Obama

LAKE JACKSON, Texas, Sep 20, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign today released the following Open Letter from Dr. Paul to President Barack Obama:

"Dear President Obama,

"As a Doctor, an Air Force Veteran, and Congressman, who serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee and has always fought for the best interest of our troops, I was deeply concerned to learn that our military retirees are now facing benefit cuts under your proposed $1.5 trillion dollar tax hike.

"Our military men and women have fought bravely. In exchange, our country made a promise to them, and we must honor it.

"There are trillions of dollars in unwise and unconstitutional spending we must cut. There are few other leaders in Washington willing to cut spending as deeply as I am and truly balance our budget. But, we must make sure we take care of our Veterans who fought to take care of us.

"We have put our troops in harm's way, and we must honor our promises. And, our troops have paid a heavy price these past ten years. Over 5,000 have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, 40,000 have seen crushing injuries, and hundreds of thousands more suffer from brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder.

"Failing to meet the promises we have made to our troops would be unjust and immoral. The cuts you announced yesterday, combined with the rumored cuts in benefits reported in publications like Army Times, have our soldiers and Veterans deeply concerned.

"Mr. President, instead of cutting our Veterans benefits, I call on you to support our troops. Support them by bringing them home to our shores, to protect our borders and defend our country. Ensure that they are rested and equipped to repel any real credible attack. Re-unite them with their families. And, make sure they no longer play policeman in dangerous foreign civil wars.

"Cutting the benefits of our Veterans benefits while we subsidize the security of other wealthy nations like Germany and Japan and play World Policeman makes no sense. The money we would save extracting our fighting men and women and our equipment from overseas conflicts and regions will more than offset the savings you seek by upending the manner in which veterans receive care.

"Bringing our troops home would ensure that we keep the promise to our Veterans, strengthen our national defense and secure our borders.

"Do not mistake me for a pacifist or a person solely focused on the economics of the unsustainable global security and state-building that has helped our country arrive at the shores of financial ruin. On the contrary, I consider my military service as an Air Force flight surgeon during the Cold War to be among my highest personal and professional achievements.

"Authentic, Constitutionally-sound national security -- a strong national defense -- begins with guarding our borders and not the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

"Mr. President, I call upon your to support our troops, honor our Veterans, and ensure our wounded get the care they deserve. To do so, we must end these protracted, trillion-dollar wars and bring them home."

In Liberty,

Ron Paul

EXACTLY how do I attempt to get this letter in my local newspaper? What is the op-ed sect. Can it be emailed or should it be conventionally mailed? Specifically the Canton Ohio Repository and Alliance Ohio Review? Help would be appreciated Ive never wrote to my local news. How do I go about this?

RP Ohio

Drop a little coin and run it

Drop a little coin and run it as an ad.(should be cheap in the locals) Or submit it as a letter to the editor.

Roman Empire Fell as Veteran's Silver Coin benefit ran out!

As the Roman Empire treasury dwindled, the Senate kept makeing promise they could not kept. They kept paying themselves in silver. They expanded war campaings. Yet, they cut Roman Legion salary (salt money). They expanded bureaucracy; yet, cut bureaucrat pay. And then finally, veteran's silver coin retirement benefits stopped. Tokens were foolishly substituted for silver.

Veterans told the fighting Roman Legions they could expect only token payment fight or fall... Retire or die. Cataclysmic Roman Empire collapse came sudden.

Breaking promises to veterans is unjust and immoral when an Empire wastes away its treasury on nonsense. Broken promises end badly for veterans. Worse for empires.

Pause & reflect. Best take Dr Ron Paul & other veterans very seriously. Honor thy promise.

Awesome.

Simply awesome. Is there a way for the campaign to send this to newspaper op-ed pages? I'd like to see it plastered in every newspaper and magazine in America (of course).

At least in the NYTimes or WSJ if the campaign finc mgr. wants

I'll inquire. Can't hurt to ask.

In the meantime, your local paper is free.

This paragraph:

"Mr. President, instead of cutting our Veterans benefits, I call on you to support our troops. Support them by bringing them home to our shores, to protect our borders and defend our country. Ensure that they are rested and equipped to repel any real credible attack. Re-unite them with their families. And, make sure they no longer play policeman in dangerous foreign civil wars"

If all he said was this paragraph,in a beautiful and moving video of all kinds of folks in the military, young, old, I couldn't see anyone in the military or assassciated, depaendents and folks who know and love those serving... how could they not vote for him, with just this paragraph, he stands above every leader in the entire world except Jesus.

I wonder if there is a recording of Dr. Paul reading that

If so I would be happy to make a video like you described above.

Very good call, Granger!

I would like to see it, too :)

Wonderful.

I sent this thing out

Ron Paul's writing simply ROCKS!

Bravo!

Ron Paul strategy

… I thought was Educate - Educate - Educate. His attack ads are good, but he does not do well in attacks directed personally to a specific candidate and their policies. This I think is true whether it is Romney, Cain or Perry. So you can complain all you like about Jesse … but even he cannot change Dr. Paul’s style he has used for over 30 years. So to stay on topic (about letters), we need to help Dr. Paul to Educate - Educate - Educate. There are very few in this Country that know the difference between Keynes vs. Mises … that is the crux of the problem. Your “Human Action” right now should be to Educate (and not to the choir). In addition to making phone calls, pick up “Liberty Defined” … find your favorite topic, then: Quote / Summarize / Add Ron Paul facts - and send it to the editor of your hometown paper.

RevolutionPAC can do attack ads

I think the attacking should be done by RevolutionPAC because they are unaffiliated with the official campaign as a SuperPAC.

For those

.... that don't do a lot of writing; here is an an example of a letter to the Editor where Dr. Paul was just simply quoted with a simple ending that was added.

There are two very important things you can do: #1 Write to the Editor of your paper, and often. #2 Become a delegate ... period!

Well, I missed it

.... the first time. I just sent it off as a letter to the editor. Heading - Open Letter To The President. I copied the body and ended it with: Dr. Paul has received more campaign contributions from the Military than Obama and more than double all Republican candidates combined.

I am sure it will be printed this week ... Please write to your hometown papers - it is very, very, very important and it is also free advertisement!!!!!

Keep posting this EVERWHERE!

Let America know that Obama is a USER!
And that Ron Paul is the only true compassionate presidential candidate.

rp has a problem of lack of strategy managers & jesse benton

i see rp supporters on this site have an obsession with cain and then are now running to newt, etc... and it goes and on. however, they never discuss romney, almost if there is a flat out refusal to target Romney.

if rp campaign had competent strategy managers, then all this running around from one candidate to another would not occur, but a focused campaign around being the anti-romney/obama option would have been implemented. now, it is getting late even if there were a strategy manager.

jesse benton is not cutting it. again, he will not do anything about romney - who always has been the one and only rival in gop. but of course he is not shy about throwing millions on perry and cain without even addressing how to take them on as a opponent.

when you have a campaign manager who was quoted in time as having said rp is not interested in being president (which i don't believe is rp's truth), then of course he will not run a campaign that is meant to win, and that leads to a weak or lack of strategy.

to repeat, there appears to a major theme in this campaign to leave romney alone and only mention flip flopping at best, but not to reduce his credibility and electability whatsoever. i think the romney campaign is just loving how the rp campaign is handling romney and are probably laughing hard at this campaign.

phoning from home is good, etc..., but you will get the furthest if there are strategy advisors / managers that are not jesse benton helping rp with debates and strategy.

ok, yesterday you were "tina"

posting things about how awful the campaign is. now you are "bec".

My GOP Committee Chair, a neocon

He told me that Romney is unelectable because he is a Mormon, there are too many people that witness LDS as a cult.

Ron Paul is winning, and this is a VERY EXCITING time to be a Republican... imagine, all the liberals who wake up to find Ron Paul on the ballot under GOP.. one day soon, GOP is going to be what everyone wishes they were sooner than later.

Romney is a moving target.

Romney is a moving target. His strategy it to take no real stance, which avoids criticism, and speak in general terms without providing specifics.

Even his 59 point plan is a plethera of general statements. This allows for easy backtracking. How can you pin down the wishy washy?

Mitt Wishy Washy?

How do you solve a problem like Mitt Romney,
how do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Mitt Romney,
a flibbertigibbet, a will-o-the-wisp, a clown?

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell him,
many a thing he ought to understand,
But how do you make him stay,
and listen to all you say,
how do you keep a wave upon the sand?

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Mitt Rom-neeeeee,
How do you hold a moonbeam in your haaaaaaand?
