Poor Journalism - My email to CBS News

CBS News,

Your Sunday broadcast of Ron Paul was an example of poor and bias journalism. First Bob Schieffer's interrogation was predispositioned, uneducated, and in poor taste.
Despite the bias, Ron Paul cut him to shreds since Bob was clearly misinformed of CIA, DOD, and other research (University of Chicago) reports on terrorism and Middle East suicide bombers. I would expect a person of Bob's background to be better informed and not be predispositioned in such an interview, but to allow a person of Dr. Paul's knowledge and stature speak as promised.

I have since learned Ron Paul was promised 20 minutes and CBS News cut it to 10 minutes, and furthermore that no effort was made to provide Dr. Paul with quality earpiece audio.

I can only conclude CBS News is once again bias and attempting to select candidates for the American people. There is no place in quality journalism for bias and predisposition.

Bernard Goldberg in his book "Bias" said it best, of reporters like Schieffer - 'these journalists don't see their views as "liberal and biased", but "merely reasonable and civilized".

Fox News : "The Factor" Doing 'Hit Piece' on Ron Paul and Iran

Fox News's "The Factor" hosted by Bill O'Reilly is conducting a 'Hit Piece' on Ron Paul and Iran using select sound bits from yesterdays CBS "Face The Nation" interview w / Bob Schieffer.

Currently on "The Factor" hosted by Bill Or'Reilly the network is doing a 'hit piece' on Ron Paul's view of Foreign Policy and in particular Iran..

It is clear that Fox News is running scared of the prospects of Ron Paul winning Iowa. Since there are still many undecided voters, Fox knows that millions of Americans get their marching orders from Fox News, thus they are is hoping that their 'hit piece' will influence these same Americans into thinking twice before voting for someone they believe is an isolationist, as Bret Hume blurted out in his discussion with O'Reilly.

O'Reilly had to throw in that Ron Paul has no chance in winning since he isn't even in double digits in the national polls. Both O'Reilly and Hume mentioned the Bloomberg poll showing Paul at 19% and they also quoted other poll numbers having him way below the Bloomberg poll.

Now we can surmise that Scieffer's questions were a setup for todays Fox News O'Reilly 'hit piece'...

Ah haaaa, Now I see how networks will work together at times to accomplish a goal, even though they expose differences in their political philosophies..

Everyone Should Watch This Interview

I am tired of the of the media spin on Ron Paul's ideas. Schieffer tried to twist things around. Dr. Paul clarified it for the public. I don't think the other candidates could handle it. Schieffer should really open his mind. It makes me want to watch his interviews and see how he treats his other guests.

SteveMT's picture

A senile old man interviewing Ron Paul.

Bob Schieffer saw his life pass before him after this program. He could be retiring soon.

Lol, SteveMT!

That's a good one.....I liked that.

gotta love the triumph!

over these lib news types always trying to destroy Dr. Paul! now all we need to do is get the word out. if you think about this, what happened to Great Britains Empire? Do you think we are in the same boat now? as they were when they headed home?
I believe that if Ron Paul is not elected in 2012, it will be the end of the USA as we know it.

Over the target and catching flak.

I enjoyed that interview because it was a clear victory. And yes, that was an attack and, yes, Ron destroyed Bob.

I knew B.S. was going to be an jerk the whole interview when he started with and continued to call Dr. Paul, "Mr. Paul". Hey Bob, its Dr. Paul or Congressman Paul to you you idiot!

I suppose, indeed, that in public life, a man whose political principles have any decided character and who has energy enough to give them effect must always expect to encounter political hostility from those of adverse principles. T.Jefferson

Grand slam.

That was a grand slam by the doctor. Great interview.

Great to see Schieffer...

...have his head handed to him :-)

This interview has got people

This interview has got people talking. People other than Ron Paul supporters. Some are even beginning to side with Paul on foreign policy.

CBS has just experienced unintended consequences to their attack interview.

People like Bob are not gonna

People like Bob are not gonna go down pretty, that's for sure. It's kinda fun to watch. They seem to think they still have some clout with poor simple folks. I picture people like him melting like the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz.

I think this was a great interview. The guy was trying to attack RP but Ron laid it out plain and simple and destroyed the guy. I love it when he said You and I are Americans, and then finally put all of that crap to bed about him blaming America by saying it is our policies not the people. I also love the fact he said we as Americans have the right to critize our government without being labeled Anti or Un American. Tuff interview but those are the types that will keep him raising to the top. Excellent job RON!

Good points Stoneman

I agree with your points however i do not look at Interviewers necessarily as someone attacking the guest nor do i accept the premise that the Person being interviewed as someone who destroys the Interviewer.

Yes. It was a tough interview...and you are right, these types of interviews will help our good doctor rise to the top.

As a National Park Ranger

I was very glad to hear that Dr. Paul would not get rid of the National Parks and I also agree that there is plenty of federal land (especially BLM and Bureau of Reclamation) that can, and should, be sold off. Additionally, I've been labeled as suicidal by many of my colleagues for advocating Dr. Paul openly and I can use this to reassure them.

For those of you that think the NPS should be abolished and turned over the states: I've worked for both NPS and the California State Parks and both work very well towards specific goals and I disagree that either should be abolished.

In Park Ranger style: I would love to answer an questions about the inner workings of our parks, either state or federal, and provide you with an honest representation of what we do.

What Article and Section of

What Article and Section of the Constitution authorize the federal government to own and operate recreational facilities?

Article I, Section 8 of the

Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States declares that

“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States.”

The park service is usually validated under the "general Welfare" portion of this section. The National Park Organic Act (the act which created the NPS) states that the NPS is a:

"service thus established shall promote and regulate the use of the Federal areas known as national parks...to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."

The parks therefore, provide for general welfare by providing the people with lands upon which to recreate and educate themselves on historical events that have shaped the nation.

Another important question is: Can the gov't own land?

Article IV, Section 3 states:

"The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State."

While no part of the constitution allows for the grabbing of land, why would they allow creation of rules and regulations on "Territory belonging to the United States" if the federal gov't couldn't own land?

Most likely the Antiquities Act is unconstitutional. Most parks fortunately, were either granted by the states or turned over by private owners, and law requires the approval of the parties granting the land be in agreement before the land becomes a park.

"Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books...Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: 'I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't. I can. And my children will."

-Jimmy Stewart

The States can do it.

I can't see why Montana and Wyoming would want to see Yellowstone turned over to private property owners. Environmentalists are very passionate folks and I doubt state politicians would try to make them angry by turning over national parks to private land owners.

Snivelling and Whining is inappropriate amongst adults.

I noticed many complaints about the Host of Face the Nation...grow up.

The interview was solid and Bob S. let Dr. Paul speak without cutting him off like some TV & Radio jockeys do.

Many people for the first time got to see the good Doctor at work and he did not let anyone down. If the viewers get a whiff of the unneccesary complaints against the host...trust me; it will turn many would be voters off. Let's not look like some kind of motley club of crybabies.

Dr. Paul is a big boy in a Big Boy arena. Expect the unexpected and appreciate the opportunities we have to be heard without sounding like a bunch of wimpy complainers.

Sorry if i sound mean...but where i come from, whining is often a waste of breath and often done by losers...we are not losers. We can represent the good doctor better than this right?

sorry, but you're wrong

Ron Paul is the only candidate that is treated this way, and people are just pointing that out. Ron Paul is the only candidate that is introduced as being a "fringe" candidate. Paul is the only candidate who has his platform attacked as crazy. It is particularly frustrating when other candidates are proposing debt enslavement, endless wars, and further growth in a domestic police state, whereas Paul is proposing the very sane course of a return to the rule of law.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

-C. S. Lewis

So what...

We know this already...but when the good Doctors loyal people moan and complain...it detracts instead of attracts.

New Fox Poll Worth Taking: Would you cut defense spending?

We should hit this poll so that our voices can be heard. True they mischaracterize it as "defense" spending when it is actually the military industrial complex...but let's chime in.

B.S. and his immediate gotcha questions

Spending half the interview trashing foreign policy positions and "blaming America"? CBS is so blatantly corrupt its coming from every orifice in Schieffer's body. After this, FOX looks like golden child. Kudos to Dr. Paul for overtalking Schieffer and getting point out. They also manipulated the sound to make Dr Paul really loud compared to Schieffer and look nutty. He is always on other networks sitting in that library setting and never sounds loud.

That smack down

just made my day.

Watching the 2007 version versus the 2011 version--and the interviewer's demeanor in both--makes it plainly obvious that Ron Paul, once considered a sideshow, is now threatening enough to be a target.

Glad to see the added fire in the good doctor's eyes.

I cannot believe how much I dislike this scumbag journalist

I just watched this interview again and I think it must take the cake as one of the most dishonest pieces of attempted journalism I have ever witnessed.

At the beginning of the interview Bob states that "we need to know more about your positions on the issues" in order to appear to be passive and open to listening.

However, at 3:03 Bob starts editorializing and instructing the viewers to dismiss the 9-11 commission report, the CIA, and the DoD reports. Then he very intentionally puts words in Ron Paul's mouth...

"...but basically what you are saying, Mr. Paul, is that it was America's fault that 9-11 happened. And it was our fault that it happened".

Wow. This Bob guy knows full well that that is not what Ron Paul believes and he knows full well that it is that sound bite that he wants to stick in people's heads. He wants to make Ron Paul appear like the most unpatriotic person in America on purpose.

But you know, when I watch the video again, I do think Ron did a great job responding to this low-life attacker. I just get so upset when the media which is supposed to be neutral so blatantly tries to spin Ron's views into what they want people to hear instead of the real message.

Schieffer is a communist.

just like Jane Fonda. He is hell bent on the destruction of America.

Except for the make-up this was brilliant.

Bob S. hasn't learned a frigging thing over all his years. You would think he would drop the low-ball tactics and just ask some straight up questions. RP crushed him. Totally.

RP needs to get his own make-up person when he goes on camera.

Schieffer tried to punk Ron Paul

Schieffer tried to punk Ron Paul and it blew up in his face. Oh well. If you play with fire, you risk getting burned...

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

Bob's a tired old man who is

very much stuck in the tired old political platforms that have gotten this great Country into a morass of ridicule. "Get out of the way, if you can't lend a hand" - Bob Dylan.
