Results of NC Grassroots Republican Straw Poll - Ron Paul Wins!

Here are the results of the NC Republican Grassroots Straw Poll, which was conducted online on Saturday. The poll was designed to give grassroots Republicans and Independents a chance to weigh in on the entire Republican Presidential candidate field. It was conceived by grassroots people in response to the NC State GOP's "official" straw poll, which was held in conjunction with a Hall of Fame Dinner, and cost$125 to participate in. Total votes, 630, of which 507 were registered Republicans, and 123 were Independents.

Paul 329 52.2%
Gingrich 139 22.1%
Cain 84 13.3%
Romney 23 3.6%
Bachmann 18 2.8%

Everyone else was below Bachmann. The poll considered the entire field, including candidates I didn't even know existed. It also gave some indication of voter distribution by county, so if you are from NC, you might find that interesting. Hopefully, this is just the first of more such efforts to give the grassroots a voice.

The Grassroots Poll answer.

This is the answer to the two polls. The Official NCGOP straw poll was held in conjunction with the annual Hall of Fame dinner at a price tag of %125 per plate/vote. The grassroots poll was organized by the grassroots on a shoestring budget and invited all registered Republicans and unaffiliated voters a chance to have their voices heard as well, with out the fine dinner and the price tag that went with it.

The difference in the outcome was somewhat predictable, but not entirely. The grassroots poll invited may TEA party associated organizations from across the state and some friendly and not-so-friendly county Republican parties.

The objective was simple.... Either confirm the "Establishment" vote as the official stance in NC or provide an alternative voice. It does not matter who won the CarolinaPatriot poll... what matters is that 630 people were heard.

Wow, look at all those

Wow, look at all those candidates who are actually running for the republican nomination. Never even heard of any them that arent on tv.

2 different straw votes

It looks like these two are different polls. One was an online poll, which Ron won and the other was a straw vote at the hall of fame dinner which gingrich won.

Yes but not many could afford

Yes but not many could afford the $125 bto participate in the hall of fame dinner and poll.

Ahh

Ok so there were two polls. There was a state-wide straw poll here in Missouri (the very first) that I attended last weekend. It was hosted by The Young Conservatives of America http://theyoungconservativesofamerica.org/ But as of now I haven't heard the results. Here in Springfield MO the turn-out was small and mostly all the Ron Paul supporters that I know were there. It was held here over two days, Saturday and Sunday and in somewhere around 12 locations or so across the state. Here's a short (slightly unexciting) video I took while there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiNjb_LTMf4

Thanks for sharing the video.

I just googled the straw poll and found the results on Ron Paul Forums. Herman Cain won with 320 votes (32%). Ron Paul placed second (but statistically tied with Newt Gingrich) with 282 votes (28%). Here is the link to the post with the rest of the results: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?330201&p=3758828...

Oh yeah!

I just found out tonight also and posted a thread in the forum about it. It is really good news!
