Stump for Paul in Iowa - YouTube Video Speech Contest

Goals: To produce a 2-minute YouTube video of a speech which would be appropriate to give at an Iowa caucus in support of Ron Paul to encourage and inspire others to deliver stump speeches as well.

Submission Guidelines:

Sometime before December 15 at 11:59 PM, you must (1) upload your video entry to YouTube, and leave as a video response(2) submit your entry to the administrator at info@rp2012.org with all required information (name, full address, email, phone, age, occupation). You must finish these two tasks before the contest deadline.

  • First prize: An Apple iPad 2 or $500 cash (that you can use to pay for a flight to Iowa to deliver the speech at a caucus if you like)
  • Second prize: $250 cash
  • Third prize: $100 cash
  • Top speech from Veteran: $250 cash
  • All entries will receive two Ron Paul bumper stickers.

We have many county contacts in Iowa we will promote it to.. we will give them the resources and also suggest they do speech contests within their counties. We also have probably close to 300 people we identified... not everyone has an email.

I had 503 words. hehe yeah I was BLAZING.

I will definitely cut out more for the night of the caucus. Or slow down if we get like 3 minutes. That would be perfect.

I've read that 2 minutes comes out to be about 250-375 words.
So they're not very strict on the "2 minute rule?"

I give the following critique as a debate-trained nerd:

Your speech content is obviously not bad. But, when giving a timed speech, cramming as much content in as possible is a failing strategy. The tempo of a speech MUST seem normal to maintain audience attention. If you deliver a speech at the cadence that is needed to cram yours into 2 minutes, you will lose the audience.

Again, your content is great. But for the time allotted for the speech, it's too much content. Your speech is to fast. People will not listen, and your great message will be lost.

I'm not worried. We will get 2-3 minutes the night of (or more). It is a very laid back setting.

I was only speaking so quickly to fit it into the 2 minute video for the contest.
