NH REPUBLICANS: DON’T LIMIT DEBATE PARTICIPANTS

CONCORD – New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen releases the following statement regarding primary weekend debates:

“Limiting the number of candidates who are invited to participate in debates is not consistent with the tradition of the first in the nation primary. The level playing field requires that all candidates be given an equal opportunity to participate – not just a select few determined by the media prior to any votes being cast.”

“Therefore, the New Hampshire Republican Party calls upon all media organizations planning pre-primary debates or forums for both parties to include all recognized major candidates in their events.”

“The New Hampshire Republican Party has notified FOX News of our position, and we are in ongoing discussions with FOX News about having as many candidates as possible participate in the forum scheduled for January 6.”

Good News !

The GOP seems to think Ron Paul is a major candidate. Wonder why Fox doesn't? WAR....TERROR

I sure hope this isn't a CYA memo...

cover your a$$

I think they will shut up to see what happens Jan 3rd and if Ron comes in 4th or better, he's in. Otherwise, they'll simply announce he's proven to not be viable. (In your dreams, Fox.)

The only solution here is to work hard on IA! Today. letters, phones, support.

1. Their is a Contract= what are the conditions?

3. No room in their mobile studio=Then kick-out Fred or (marching order’s) Chirrs W.
IMO we must figure away out to break their backs, we the people have the Man and the best platform period. They are stopping our message from getting out. I know HQ's is working on this w/Dr. Paul please let me know any new info. Just a guess IMO knowing how the OM work's they are stalling to see the Iowa results.

Thanks Dr. Steve

I believe that in a more chivalrous time, the other candidates would have withdrawn rather than dishonor the process.

Must have been the champagne I had last night.

Happy 2008 (already) from Australia.

NH GOP and OTHER CANDIDATES SHOULD WITHDRAW

Fox has had enough time to respond. I think the NH GOP and the other candidates should withdraw from this kind of event immediately and denounce it for what it is.

Fed-Up

Please...

...let's have more positive posts like this one! Thank you Dr Steve, I guess our little talk helped you to understand the result of being positive...thanks again.

Yes they should cancel if...

All "major" candidates are not allowed in!

Obviously, the word "major" is subjective to those making the call on who will appear. I think if Mr. Cullen is truly impartial and is indeed NOT in "cover your butt mode and let Fox absorb the heat", he should insist that all republican candidates who are still in the race should appear or the forum should be canceled!

It would be a very effective strategy for the party and those Neo-cons who may be in bed together to let Mr. Cullen and the party appear impartial by speaking up even though the protest is ignored by Fox and everything goes off as scheduled...as is! He could only be doing this for show, therefore, he should put up or shut up!

NO ONE GOES!!

I feel that if the Gop wants to blame Dr. Paul's exclusion on Fox, then they should pull all the Candidates from this venue.

On a lighter side, I just now got off the Phone with a very pleasant person from the news desk area, I didn't get her name. But I asked her if the team that created the piece I saw here on you tube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCAYRWIcPKQ

Was planning on finding out who made the decision to exclude Dr. Paul from the debate and she stated that they were headed to a Ron Paul rally today and did not think the news team was looking in to who made the decision to exclude Dr.Paul from the debate forum. At this point I challenged what the second newscaster stated at the end of the segment "Ron Paul isn't a front runner, could this be why they are excluding him from the debate"? I was able to ask her if she ever heard of meetup.com and she stated that she had never heard of it. So i explained to her what it was all about and suggested that she go there, and I taught her how to get to the RONPAUL meetup and how she could see for herself the grassroots support Dr. Paul has and compare his numbers to that of his competitors. I can only lead her to the information hopefully she will do the research and pass it on.
I was very cordial wishing her a happy New Year and how crummy it was that she had to work today and that seemed to get me a lot of her time. She seemed genuine in her interest and we had a 10 -12 minute conversation before I told her, "well I know your must be very busy so I will let you get back to what you were doing before I interrupted you" . I actually had to end the conversation, simply amazing how just one little well placed respectful call may forward our cause. I used diplomacy and I think we are all capable of the same thing but on a massive scale to all of our local news affiliates. Give it a try it is very rewarding when you make this kind of headway, thats how i felt about my encounter, and I hope you will too.

Sounds like last or second to last ditch effort

For the argument to go public sounds like he's not making headway with Fox. If this isn't the last ditch effort, pulling out of the debate seems to have been left on the table.

I really respect Mr. Cullen for laying it all out. He's really gone to bat for open debate. His efforts are exceptional.

They Should Pull Their Sponsorship of the Event

Press releases are cheap. They should pull their sponsorship of the event if all candidates are not invited.

I don't think the NH GOP should be let off the hook.

How will Fox (or other media outlets) define....

....the word "major?"

If an attorney scrutinized that statement, then using the current poll information (no matter how incorrect we collectively might believe it to be), they could still opt to not include Dr. Paul in their forum because he doesn't meet some arbitrary definition they have of "major" candidate.

Plus one could argue that Fox doesn't even "recognize" Dr. Paul as a major candidate, nevermind acknowledging that he's a Republican.

JJ

Someone has been given the reasion why but not us!

To me at this point it is the Doc's call from here, but all of us here on DP know the question as to why has still not been answered period, if it has been please point it out to me. We where first told of a so-called Fox contract, they must have surly at least related the terms at this point to the GOP you think. IMO something smells real bad here, but I hope everything work's out ok.

Thats what we needed

If FOX doesnt ask Paul to the "Forum" them the grass roots should do all that has been suggested and more. But the Republican Party in NH has done its job, and so has Miss Aitken. Thank You in your support of Freedom and Liberty

Thank you Sir

Doesn't it feel almost shocking to come across someone acting impartial?
Shame on you, Chris Wallace and FOXNEWS

I have a question

While I appreciate Mr. Cullen's statement.

What if Fox doesn't allow Ron Paul into the debate after this statement by Mr. Cullen? Should the NH Republican Party and Mr. Cullen withdraw their support of this Fox Forum?

And denounce it as being UnFair and UnBalanced.

Yes, they should withdraw

Yes, they should withdraw their sanction of this event.

I have written Mr. Cullen with that exact sentiment. Don't put the NH-RP impramitur on this if Paul is not invited.

'Jolly

On the ground in NH.

If they cave and invite him, he should say - NO!

Televised or not, this event has already been politicized. Dr. Paul does not need to be at the Forum on January 6th. He should have been invited. But, at this point, he should plan on being somewhere else, reaching out to NH Voters. And, if Fox caves, Dr. Paul should do what he does best and just say NO!

Disagree

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. It feels childish to me.

However, on the other hand, I don't think they will invite him and if they do, I think the time of the forum will be when they know he has plans.
But he will know how to handle it.

Yep, Dr. Paul is a 'class

Yep, Dr. Paul is a 'class act' and would be gracious in any situation. His actions always seem to match his words!

You are wise Mr. Cullen....thank you.

Thank you for taking a stand for LIBERTY and showing everyone how it is done in the Live Free or Die state!

Thanks again.

More Intervention Required.

While the letter from the NH GOP is a step in the right direction, it would appear that Chris Wallace at FOX News is now holding the all the control here about who will be included (Guiliani, Huckabee,McCain,Romney,Thompson) and who will not.

Extreme pressure needs to be brought to bare on FOX News and specifically, Chris Wallace. Remember, Chris Wallace is the clown here who accused Dr. Ron Paul of "taking his marching orders from Al Qaeda" during one of the debates (as Guiliani giggled into his microphone like a little schoolgirl).

We have to embarass Chris Wallace and publically shame him into reversing his decision (censorship of Ron Paul).
