RON PAUL SUPPORTERS PARTICIPATE IN NATIONWIDE 10,000lb HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE WHILE SPREADING PAUL’S PHILOSOPHY OF LIMITED GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION
Ron Paul Supporters to Collect 10,000lbs of Food for Charity
Thanks to Ron Paul supporters across the country, Americans in need will be less hungry this holiday season. That’s because Paul’s supporters have come together in a nationwide grassroots effort to collect 10,000 pounds of food this holiday season and call attention to Ron Paul's philosophy that Americans don't need government intervention to take care of each other.
As Paul describes in his book The Revolution: A Manifesto, "Imagine the programs that constituted the federal "safety net" were all of the sudden abolished [...] How would you respond? Would you be more likely to volunteer at a food bank? [...] If you were a lawyer or physician, would you be more likely to offer pro bono services? We would all answer yes, wouldn't we? We need to ask ourselves: why aren't we doing these things already? And the answer is that we have bought into the soul-killing logic of the welfare state: somebody else is doing it for me. I don't need to, since a few scribbles on a tax form fulfill my responsibility toward my fellow man. Do our responsibilities as human beings really extend no farther than this?"
“It is in our nature, the nature of the American people, to be generous and giving,” says Ron Paul supporter and volunteer Danielle Davis, “and we would like to show people – just as Dr. Paul believes – that voluntary charity is a much more efficient and direct way to help those less fortunate than ourselves; government isn’t the only option.”
Food will be collected in many cities across the country throughout most of December and will be distributed to food banks on December 23, 2011.
