His views on Israel might be eccentric, but the Republican establishment can't ignore Ron Paul

If the forum seemed to drag for the several hours that it ran for, then it was partly because there was no dissenting voice on Israel. One might ask, “Why should there be?” This was a Republican Jewish Coalition meeting and the organisers were at liberty not to invite someone who doesn’t represent their values. Congressman Ron Paul is opposed to foreign or military aid to Israel – so the Coalition was entitled to turn him away.

However, the exact reasons that the Coalition gave for not asking Ron Paul were a little disingenuous. First, the Coalition’s director Matt Brooks said that “Inviting Paul to attend would be like inviting Barack Obama to speak.” Well, it really wouldn’t. Of all the candidates in the GOP race, the one who is furthest from Obama’s liberal agenda is the libertarian Paul. He approximates as accurately to Obama as Donald Trump does to Lenin.
