It's true

Here's a clip of he and the Oreally factor discussing it in 2009

And it wasn't 1997, it was as early as 1995...
("Gingrich on Drug Dealers," New York Times, July 15, 1995, p. A9; Reuters News Service, July 14, 1995; "Gingrich Urges Death Penalty for Illegal Drug Smugglers," Washington Post, August 27, 1995, p. A16).

Informationliberation did a fine response to Newt's recent statements supporting the idea

I wouldn't trust Johnson

just for that ridiculous bad hair piece. Looks like a dead cat on his head. Nice road kill hat dude.

This is HUGE

It would mean the death penalty for at least 30 million marijuana users in America - Joseph Stalin would be proud.

Gary Johnson on Last Friday's Freedom Watch

In this show GJ says that he will ABSOLUTELY support Ron Paul if he wins the GOP nominee. Only if RP doesn't win the nominee GJ might run as a Libertarian

Here's the short clip:

"Air is the very substance of our freedom, the substance of superhuman joy....aerial joy is freedom."--Gaston Bachelard--

Hair-raisingly terrifying

He also wants to mandate drug tests for everyone:

This is quintessential, totalitarian, murderous regime stuff: they criminalize everything and carry the penalties to the farthest extreme. Want to go to jail for the rest of your (short) life for saying something derogatory about the President? That's how it was under Stalin.

Newt isn't sensible enough to AVOID coming across as a Stalin wannabe, and Americans aren't sensible enough to recognize giant flashing red light alarms reading DANGER all around Newt.

And how about the fact...

that he's already asked John Bolton to be his Secretary of State? That's pretty scary too!

or he used some of the money from Freddy and Fannie

to buy an indulgence.

He mentioned RP at the

He mentioned RP at the beginning, but not at the end when he said nobody was planning on a balanced budget. Oops. RP is.

Check my above comment on

Must have been the hot

political taking point at the time...say whatever people want to hear but actually mean NONE of it.

I do believe he has mastered that art.

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.
Ron Paul - The Revolution

Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms. Ron Paul

Scary thing is, he DID mean it

Just recently he applauded Singapore's draconian drug laws:

Use this quote far and wide...

Quote in Financial Times this morning (Dec. 12, 2011, p.9):

"Gingrich is a stupid person's idea of what an intelligent person should sound like."

Plano TX

Funny ... I was just thinking something very similar

Corporate Media brands Newt as 'the smart guy'. But all I see is a manipulative, self-serving, authoritarian chameleon.

Another intellectual phony and shape shifter used car salesmen.

Why can't people see what's right in front of their face?

Newt helped destroy many people's lives (while he got rich) from his role in the housing bubble. I wonder if Newt would vote to give Newt the death penalty.

“If you import a commercial quantity of illegal drugs… it is because you have made the personal decision that you are prepared to get rich by destroying our children. I have made the decision that I love our children enough that we will kill you if you do this.”

August 27, 1995, New York Times, Gingrich Suggests Tough Drug Measure

I propose the death penalty

I propose the death penalty for adultery, with no statute of limitations.

edit: someone (Nate) beat me to it.

Not That I Don't Trust Gary Johnson...

But, verify, verify, verify. Is there a link someone can find to directly verify this charge - Perhaps an interview, off the cuff remark recorded inadvertently and/or something written in an opinion piece or mailing purported to be authored by Gingrich?

Newt is quite good a deflecting his past gaffs with 'further explanations'.
And I find it amusing that the interviewer sees no connection between the typical Gingrich hypocrisy (which she discounted without exploration), and the rapid rise and fall of GOP 'frontrunners'. It is exactly this type of flip-flopping and hypocritical behavior that brings them down as fast as the MSM can prop them up.

"Gingrich Praises Singapores 'Very Draconian' Laws"

And from Yahoo News- Newt is quoted as saying:

You can either be in the Ron Paul tradition and say there's nothing wrong with heroin and cocaine or you can be in the tradition that says, 'These kind of addictive drugs are terrible, they deprive you of full citizenship and they lead you to a dependency which is antithetical to being an American.' If you're serious about the latter view, then we need to think through a strategy that makes it radically less likely that we're going to have drugs in this country.

Places like Singapore have been the most successful at doing that. They've been very draconian. And they have communicated with great intention that they intend to stop drugs from coming into their country.

Clarification from wikipedia:

Singapore retains both corporal punishment (in the form of caning) and capital punishment (by hanging) as punishments for serious offences. For certain offences, the imposition of these penalties is mandatory. More than 400 people were executed in Singapore, mostly for drug trafficking, between 1991 and 2004. Statistically, Singapore has one of the highest execution rates in the world relative to its population, surpassing Saudi Arabia.

Welcome to Newt's "America."

I don't trust Gary Johnson

Smart guy... but fair tax? Not lib enough.

He may be for a fair tax

But I think he's a pretty trustworthy guy. I've got much respect for him, and he's hand s down got much more integrity than any of those neo-cons up there.

I agree with Newt

Everyone who possesses marijuana should be locked up for life!

I mean afterall the plant has killed ZERO PEOPLE since we have been ON EARTH for heavens sake.

death penalty?

I am so sick of idiotic stances against marijuana especially when it is so completely irrational. - My site on getting my little family prepped for whatever might come our way. - My site on growing marijuana

Don't forget to count

All the people who have died as a result of fires from people being forced to grow inside in secret, all the people "accidentally" killed in police raids, people being murdered by members of a "unregulated market" (the drug market is regulated by force, same as the law, funny how that is), and people killed from getting "tricked" and sold oregano their first time then smoking it and having an allergic reaction.

Marijuana is a deadly drug all right, it has a slightly different effect on every user. If in use by a paranoid psychotic schizophrenic, similar to our government it results in dangerous delusions and sometimes psychotic breaks, oftentimes mindless babbling and violent episodes of ego inflation.

True Story - Smoking weed destroys your genes:

I once burned a hole in my Calvin Kleins.

(I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken)

That is major news !!

I did not know that.

Does the following quote have any merit? Paul Craig Roberts could know if this is correct or not imo.

“I helped Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp develop supply side economics. I helped lead the effort to defeat communism in the Congress.”

Source and Read more:

That quote by The Gingrich is a misquote. What The Newt actually said was,

"I helped lead the effort to complete communism in the Congress."

Let it not be said that we did nothing.-Ron Paul

How about

asking him if he supports the death penalty for adultery.

Perhaps he supports the death penalty, but the method

would not be getting stoned.

Well yeah but he's a Catholic

Well yeah but he's a Catholic now so all of his past transgressions have been expiated by the Holy See!
