Out-of-State Volunteers Needed for Iowa. Make it Happen! Goal: 200

http://youtu.be/lx2fdFuf6L0

Ron Paul needs as many out-of-state volunteers as possible for the Iowa caucus on January 3rd. You may be needed to help as a precinct captain or deliver a speech. There are many things you can do to gain votes on caucus day. If you are from Iowa's neighboring states like Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Wisconsin you should definitely find a way to make a road trip to Iowa for the Caucus. Anybody with the means to get to Iowa should go. Please email us at: info@rp2012.org if you are interested. Our goal is to get 200 extra volunteers to Iowa and connect with the campaign to fill in where necessary. Note: This is in addition to those participating in Christmas Vacation for Ron Paul. Let's make it happen! So who's in?

Here is contact info for local organizers:

Texas: Jan - jandelaval@gmail.com
Pam - pam@web-function.com (6-12 people)

Phone & Driver Alert

Hi Folks... We need all Daily Paul people to log on and make a few calls until 9 PM Central along with Tuesday. 600 of you on Daily Paul could make 100 calls each and reach about 30,000 people.. This will make the difference.

All volunteers in Iowa right now make sure the campaign knows you can volunteer to drive people to the Caucus.

Thanks

Thanks to all the hard work everyone is doing!!

volunteers

We still need people. I'm going to Council Bluffs from Omaha to help out because we don't have enough volunteers in IA. So please contact your local counties or cities via facebook and they'll connect you with organizers for the caucus speeches on Tuesday. Print off a speech and stand up for Ron Paul. Very easy and we gain 1000s of votes by doing this.

Don't go to Iowa

John Dennis will surely soon be retracting his statements in view of what the campaign's Matt Collins has said:

"If you are considering traveling to Iowa to volunteer, Ron asks that you save the time and money you would've used on your trip to Iowa to Phone-From-Home and to donate instead.... The grassroots enthusiasm is appreciated, but the campaign is doing very well with its on-the-ground efforts there."

Matt is with the campaign and he reports to Demetri Kesari, Ron's Deputy Campaign Manager. So the clear word is that Demetri doesn't want volunteers coming to Iowa.

Wish I could go!

Bump for Ron Paul!

We reserved group rates for:

1) the Lodge - Bettendorf, IA - about $40 (taxes inc)

2) the Clarion - Iowa City, IA - about $45 (taxes inc)

3) the Econolodge - Des Moines IA - about $45 (taxes inc)

We're supposed to get a certain number of rooms filled so if any volunteers are looking please contact: info@rp2012.org

From New Illinois Organizer:

Iowa Caucus Volunteer Update

I have been bombarded with questions and requests regarding the status of out-of-state volunteers being able to participate in the Iowa Caucuses. Below, I am summarizing the information that you should currently need to go to Iowa to volunteer or be an effective advocate for Ron Paul from home.

Did the campaign discourage us from traveling to Iowa?

Yes and no. The RP2012 National Campaign has issued a statement encouraging non-Iowans to stay home and utilize the phone-from-home system to contact Iowans on Caucus day to remind them to show up to support Ron Paul. I have been informed that this statement was primarily issued in response to an uncoordinated grassroots effort of out-of-staters trying to show up at Caucuses to monitor the voting. It is true - the RP2012 campaign has the vote monitoring covered.

However, we have contacts directly with with County and Precinct leaders on the ground who are concerned about several hundred precincts within the state that do not have any known Ron Paul precinct captains to speak on his behalf on Caucus night. We are part of an organized grassroots effort to place Ron Paul supporters in Caucuses which are most likely to not have someone willing or ready to speak on Ron Paul's behalf. In addition, there are numerous other needs on the local level for volunteers to distribute literature, staff booths, and speak one-on-one with Caucus goers prior to the actual Caucuses.

Officially, non-Iowans are never "invited" to speak at the Caucuses by the Republican Party, but once the Caucus begins, each precinct leader has the freedom to use their own judgment and allow anyone present to speak on behalf of a candidate if there are no precinct members present who wish to speak. Therefore, the national campaign will never publicly encourage or directly solicit out-of-state volunteers to show up at Caucuses. However this is allowable, it is something every campaign provides information to grassroots volunteers to help them organize, and it will happen all across Iowa on Caucus night.

If you plan on staying in Illinois

I would encourage you to take the campaign's advice and use the phone-from-home system to call Ron Paul supporting Iowans on Caucus day to remind them to show up. Also, you might want to look for a local Meetup Group or contact the Republican Liberty Caucus of Illinois to find out about more volunteer opportunities in Illinois to support Ron Paul.

If you plan on going to Iowa

First, make sure you fill out this brief questionnaire describing your plans, availability, and needs. The information provided will be used to coordinate logistics so that everyone has a ride to and from Iowa and everyone receives an appropriate Caucus "assignment" that matches their availability. Assignments are expected to be sent out on Saturday, 12/31 to those who completed the questionnaire.

If you do not have an assignment yet, don't fret. You WILL receive all the information you need regarding where to go, where to stay, and what to do prior to your departure for Iowa. Because the situation changes almost hourly, it is basically necessary to wait until the last minute to tell people where to go and what to do, rather than send out a dozen messages that contradict each other as the needs on the ground continue to develop.

What to expect at a Caucus

The main thing about the Iowa Caucuses is that there are 1784 different Caucus meetings and everyone is pretty much its own unique thing. First, and foremost, no matter where you go or what you do, just being present at this unique political event is likely to leave an impression on you that you will cherish. It is truly a rare and unique event.

Many of you are chomping at the bit to get into Iowa and change hearts and minds to vote for Ron Paul. You will get that opportunity. I cannot stress how much of a positive impact just being present, professional and polite (in appearance and manner), and proactive to speak to Iowans will have for Ron Paul. And that is the minimum everyone should expect to do.

No matter what, you will have the opportunity to encourage and support Iowans who plan on voting for or speaking on behalf of Ron Paul. You will have the opportunity to distribute campaign literature before the Caucuses. You will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Iowans about what issues are important to them and why Ron Paul is the best candidate to represent them and promote their issues.

Many (if not most) of you may also have the opportunity to give a 30-second to 2-minute speech in an actual Caucus - if you're lucky, in more than one Caucus. You might even be given a brief amount of time for a Q&A. You should be prepared for anything, but don't be disappointed if you prepared for the optimal opportunity and didn't get to take advantage of it. Someone is going to get unlucky - if it is you, that just means you took one for the team so someone else didn't have to and could be available to speak in another Caucus.

If you get to speak

Since your opportunity to speak is at the discretion of one of the 1784 precinct leaders in each Caucus, how long you get to speak, whether or not you get time to answer questions, etc. will also be at their discretion. Be prepared for anything.

The most important feature of your speech will be how personal, sincere, and from the heart you sound. Tell your personal story and why Ron Paul means so much to you that you traveled hundreds of miles to share his message with Iowans.

The number one issue Ron Paul resonates with Iowans on is his fiscal conservatism. Iowans want to reign in government spending and reduce the national debt. Promoting Ron Paul's better-than-the-rest record on this will easily win points.

You will want to make sure you are familiar with where Ron Paul stands on all his important issues and it will help you to speak with Caucus goers before the Caucus starts to find out what issues are important to them - and tailor your message accordingly.

Iowans - especially rural Iowans - tend to be very hawkish about national defense. This is a topic you only want to mention if you are extremely confident in your ability to craft a short and concise message about why Ron Paul is the best candidate for U.S. security. Points to remember: Ron Paul is a U.S. Air Force veteran. Ron Paul receives more donations from active duty military members than all other candidates combined. In your opinion, Ron Paul is the most likely candidate to keep America safe, keep America strong, and promote American Exceptionalism to stand as a beacon of freedom and hope to the world.

Here are some key don'ts:
Don't bash other candidates. All this does is cause people who may half-heartedly support them to whole-heartedly support them out of spite and defensiveness. It is one thing to say why you cannot support a certain candidate (don't volunteer this info, only use it to answer a question). It is another thing to just trash talk someone. You know the difference.
Don't preemptively defend Ron Paul. Many controversial criticisms against Ron Paul require a sophisticated well thought out explanation. You won't have the time to do this. By bringing these things up, you will confuse people who never heard them and you will remind people who may not have thought them important until you made that the most recent thing they heard about Ron Paul.
Don't be pushy. Respect the fact that Iowans' choice for President could be a very personal and private matter for them. You're not there to tell them how to vote. You're there give them information and hopefully plenty of reasons to vote for Ron Paul. Coming across as a sales-man, especially a pushy one, will only give them one big reason to not vote for Ron Paul.
Here are some key dos:
Do wear dress casual and give lots of friendly smiles. These non-verbal's will actually persuade more people to vote for Ron Paul than you words are likely to.
Do tell your personal story. Yes, you're here to represent Ron Paul, but people want to know why YOU are here. Take a few seconds to tell them. They might end up voting for Ron Paul just for you. I've seen it happen.
Do be optimistic. Whether you believe in God, fate, karma, or just the natural inevitability of freedom, Ron Paul's freedom message will eventually win the day. It is not about the man, it is about the message - that means you get to be a mini-Ron Paul for a few moments everytime you spread the message. Revel in those moments.
Parting thoughts

I am by no means the most fervent of Ron Paul supporters. In fact, up until last week I have been mostly closely observing the campaign and grassroots rather than actively participating. I have volunteered to coordinate and provide information for this trip to Iowa because the job needed to be done and I have some some unique experience doing this kind of thing (several times) before. I am dedicated to arming you with all the best information you need to support Ron Paul in the best way you can - in Iowa and at home. I'm not a walking Wikipedia though. If I don't have an answer, I will find it. If you have useful information that others need to know about - please share it with me.

And, unlike Wikipedia, I am not available online 24/7 - if you need to speak to me please email me (ronpaul2012@mrzach.com). If you leave a message please specify what times I can or cannot call you back. My schedule is tight this week, so please be persistant but patient. If I'm not getting back to you with the answers you need then I'm probably replying to someone else who got a hold of me first or I'm waiting for someone to get back to me with the answer. Thank you so much for your dedication, selflessness, and understanding.

Watch The Vote / Stump For Paul coordination

There is a lot of talk over on Ron Paul Forums about "Watch The Vote". Apparently, they want people from out of state to go to Iowa to make sure that they have accurate counts at the precinct.

Stump For Paul and Watch The Vote seem awfully similar. Both programs seem to involve people coming from out of state and doing something at the caucus. The Stump For Paul people will be working roughly from 7pm to 9pm on January 3 at the caucus and the Watch The Vote people will be working from 9p to 11p.

I would argue that the Stumpers and the Watchers should be getting together. The Watchers should be folded into the Stump program, and everyone should include Watching on their to do list.

Fantastic everyone!

Let us know about accomodations!

So far we have reserved rooms for Jan 2nd and 3rd at the 3-star Lodge Hotel in Bettendorf, ($40/night per room (taxes inc); Occupancy: 4 per room - two queens) and the 3-star Clarion Highlander Hotel in Iowa City ($45/night (taxes inc) per room ; Occupancy: 4 per room - two queens)

These are great deals!

It would be nice to get guest lists for the rooms.

If enough people want to stay in Des Moines we can also reserve a group there at about $45/night (taxes inc) at an Econolodge... we just need to book 7+ rooms.

To get group rates just email us at: info@rp2012.org

South Carolina

4 leaving for Iowa on Saturday morning December 31 from Spartanburg, SC and the Avalanche is full.

This will be history in the making, just like the Target center in Minneapolis St. Paul in 2008.

Several from Ohio (Still room for more!)

There are at least two groups coming from Ohio that I know of. One is rendezvousing with another group from Louisville and leaving from there on either Friday night or Saturday morning. (This group is mainly people from Central Ohio, I think.)

I can't get that much time off work. I'll be glad to drive or carpool with someone who can leave Monday and come back Wednesday from the Cincinnati/Dayton area. Please message me privately or leave your contact information if you're interested in sharing a ride.

I don't know where we're needed yet, but once I find out, I plan on getting a cheap hotel via PriceLine wherever we need to go. I'll be glad to split the cost if another Ron Paul gal wants to share.

From Colorado

Im in Northern Colorado and would like to get out there. Anyone want to car pool?

I pass this info all over the

I pass this info all over the net. I agree with more people on the ground helps RON PAUL for a better chance to win.

We have 75 coming from

We have 75 coming from Illinois so far.

will these people from Illinois ever get to meet each other?

Do these people know one another?

I was contacted last night

I emailed the link and was contacted by RonPaul.org and will be making my way from Texas to Iowa with a few other liberty minded individuals after Christmas.

Ron Paul 2012

I am sure you will do us proud

I think I will just make my own plans and maybe I could fall in somewhere. It is just getting too late in the game to sit on my hands any longer. I am a bit concerned that if I wait until after Christmas to hear back from a coordinator I may not be able to secure a room. I have only volunteered through one coordinator at a time because I did not want to make a commitment that I could not keep. Maybe I should have tried a different approach. Oh well. I will enjoy myself anyway.

I cant make it

But I know I heard about people from Florida going up for the Christmas in Iowa or whatever it is and I am sure there will be others that I haven't heard about. I imagine there will be people from several states and the closer to Iowa the state the more people will come in to volunteer. There should be way more than 200 I would imagine.

The Christmas Vacation for Paul program is separate...

I think they'll have about 250+... We are trying to get an additional 200 so we can cover Iowa like a glove.... The more volunteers the better! This is the first and most important state!

Ron Paul 2012...and beyond
BAN ELECTRONIC VOTING!!

This is VERY important

I'm from Nebraska and in 2008 I drove over and was a precinct captain for Ron Paul, the one that John was at.

It was two precincts combined..so we where allowed two speakers.

I got there early and claimed a table by the door for Ron Paul and set out all the Ron Paul pamphlets. Then I milled around talking and handing out information to people..the general feel was that many where undecided.
I think we had maybe 4 or 5 people at best sitting at
the Ron Paul table.
After talking to people and seeing how many where sitting
at the other candidates tables I did not give it much hope for a Ron Paul win.

John and a serviceman whom was home on leave both gave a speech.

When the votes where tallied we won the one precinct and came in a very close second on the other precinct.
