Ron Paul Wins Again! Bachmann lied (again!) about Iran in debate.
Submitted by paulorbust on Fri, 12/16/2011 - 04:19Responding to a hypothetical question about whether the United States should support an attack against Iran by Middle East-ally Israel, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann noted that Iran already has announced plans to strike Israel.
"They've stated, as recently as August just before President (Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad came ... to the U.N. General Assembly. He said that he wanted to eradicate Israel from the face of the Earth," Bachmann said during the Nov. 22, 2011, CNN debate.
"He has said that if he has a nuclear weapon he will use it to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth. He will use it against the United States of America."
The claim from Bachmann isn’t new -- she said something similar during an Iowa campaign event in October.
But is it correct?

Maybe Ron Paul should start
Maybe Ron Paul should start saying he wants to bomb Iran just to get elected, and then once he's in office he can be like, "sike, fools, I'm bringing the troops home!"

Points out that Bachmann was "false" on the exact same thing IN NOVEMBER and still repeated it. She admitted in the debate that she looks at politifact (or at least her staff points out when she's correct against someone else).
Michele isn't lying on purpose. She honestly believes Iran has threatened to nuke the US. If she's willing to say that multiple times on national television, she'd probably be willing to start a war based on similar false intelligence. That's why, at the very least, the Congress should openly debate such things before declaring war with a roll call vote.
If both Ron and Michele were telling the truth during the debate, it might not be clear who won that exchange last night. Sadly, many people watching will assume they were both honest. Given that Bachmann is basing her aggressive stance on false assumptions, it's clear that Ron won that portion of the debate. Now watch the complacent broadcast media ignore Ron yet again and not mention Michele's dangerous misstatements.
How irresponsible of Bachman...
Trying to go to war under false pretenses? That's so 2003.
Shame on her. We're talking about real lives here not toy soldiers. So irresponsible.

Ron Paul describes this
Ron Paul describes this phenomenon better than I can. It just WAR PROPAGANDA. Remember the "Weapons of Mass Destruction"? It the latest reason that we need to bomb and attack someone.
By now we should be used to the lies: Y2K, "Global Warming", the "Hole" in the ozone layer, and on and on.
what!!!????
When Bachmann perpetuates war propaganda that is a lie, SHE IS LYING!!!!!!!
Ahmadinejad is not Khomeini
It is irresponsible and dangerous for Bachmann or Santorum to make the claim that the current leadership in Iran is exactly the same thing as the leadership in Iran 25 years ago. Sadly, those who support them believe them as do many of those who support Romney, Gingrich, & Perry.
The myth that Ahmadinejad has expressed a direct military threat toward Israel stems from false associations to Amadinejad’s professorial readings to students of the published words of the Ayatollah Khomeini in a historical context within an lecture on the topic of the Islamic Revolution at an institution of higher learning. All Dr. Ahmadinejad ever did was lecture to students regarding the mindset surrounding a time in history those kids were too young to remember.
The warmongers have distorted this fact to instead mean that words spoken 25 years ago by another man are in fact the same thing as the current President of Iran’s views and mindset today.
Just last night, Sean Hannity made the claim during his interview with Dr. Paul(without giving Paul sufficient time to correct the host) that Ahmadinejad is a ‘Holocaust Denier’. Of course, such a claim even if true, would not by any stretch justify going to war yet this claim itself is also baseless.
When Andrea Mitchell (Mrs. Alan Greenspan) of NBC News interviewed Dr. Ahmadinejad, and asked him about his perspective on the holocaust this rumor was then started simply because Andrea Mitchell was given by President Ahmadinejad, a perspective which did not agree with her own and she herself irrationally took that opportunity to imply that Ahmadinejad was denying that 6 million Jews died during WWII.
Dr. Ahmadinejad did nothing of the sort but Mrs. Greenspan simply did not care for his tone when he correctly pointed out that not just 6 million Jews were caused to die during WWII but in fact 60 million people were caused to die during WWII and that war itself is a bad thing and should be avoided.
Mrs. Greenspan again asked him for his sympathy for the deaths of 6 million Jews and Ahmadinejad then pointed out that 34 million non-Jewish civilians were also caused to die during WWII and none of their descendants were awarded an entire country as compensation for those deaths at the expense of land belonging to people who were not at all responsible for anything to do with the original conflict or the deaths of Jews thousands of miles away in Europe.
Andrea Mitchell might not have liked the tone of that answer but such a statement is not by any means a denial of the Jewish Holocaust and certainly not a justification for The US removing the current regime in Iran.

With all due respect, I object to your title...
I think your post has a little less credibility when you claim she "lied". You can't be sure that she's lying. She may have a trusted advisor that lies or is incompetent, that doesn't make her a liar. Kinda dumb, maybe, but not a liar.

I agree, this is very
I agree, this is very important. All of the establishment candidates should be included as a group that will say anything to get elected. They are pandering to the less informed patriotic voters. They all have made it very clear they will attack Iran if they are elected. A vote for any of them is a vote for war. The Campaign Staff should drive this point home in a TV ad NOW and get our momentum back. If we lose in Iowa we can forget about SC and Florida because the GOP voters in these two States are neocons. We must get out front on this issue.
Bachmann with the Nuclear
Bachmann with the Nuclear Football is a scary thought. The nuclear button in her hands would result in the end of mankind as we know it today. She will say anything or do any thing to get elected, that includes bombing any country Israel's leaders do not like. A vote for any of the establishment candidates is a vote for war with Iran and a destruction of our economy.
Iran? Really?
Yeah! Let’s don’t bring the troops home yet. I’m sure they still have some fight left in them even after 6, 7 or 10 Tours of duty fighting a 10 year bulls**t profit making for bankers, lied about War! Let’s save time and move them on over to IRAN! I’m sure they and their families won’t mind!
It seems like everyone in the GOP, except one, loves WAR. Forget the fact that we are broke and can’t rub two nickels together. Forget that the only people who really win at war are the bankers. Think about it, if countries were not able to go into debt borrowing from the central banks (The Fed) war would be virtually impossible, because no country is wealthy enough….including us…to pay for such an expense out of gradually collected revenues.
Gary
This was the opposition to RON PAUL in 2008 and why the Media tried so hard to ignore him then. They are the same organizations that own the Media and the Banks that are responsible this election season for trying so blatantly to suppress his momentum now
I wonder...
how many of these chicken hawk candidates would be so gung ho over going to war if they or their family had to go and make the sacrifice. Cept for Newt of course who'd be willing to send any of his wives in a heartbeat. RP2012 Enough With The Fear Mongering Bullshit

What I found to be the most
What I found to be the most astounding is at the very end of Ron's reply she speaks into the mic "but I stand for peace"...
YES! It was like a pathetic whimper
that was super soaked in irony.
Let's start an attack with a gigantic country filled with the most patriotic people outside of Americans on planet Earth. That will totally end with them surrendering and admitting that we were totally right on about everything our Elites have done to them for the past 60 years.
Newsflash: Iranians aren't running the TSA, Homeland Drone operations or busting down doors with SWAT teams, that's all USA! USA! USA!

IMPORANT
The campaign seriously needs to take these articles - I also saw one on MSNBC : http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45694263#.TutejNRSSLI - GET THESE OUT. I honestly thought that last night during the debate, that Michelle got the better of Paul. After reading this however, it TOTALLY changes the way I looked at last nights debate.
I have heard them say these quotes SO MUCH - that I took them as fact. If the campaign doesn't do it - some video creator on here should

WOW.. I Reading the IRANIAN CONSTITUTION
I am trying to what BatWoman said, look at this:
Article 13
Zoroastrian, Jewish, and Christian Iranians are the only recognized religious minorities, who, within the limits of the law, are free to perform their religious rites and ceremonies, and to act according to their own canon in matters of personal affairs and religious education.

The Iranian Leader saying they want to wipe Israel off the map
Re: The Iranian Leader saying they want to wipe Israel off the map
The Actual Quote:
So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in Farsi:
"Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."
That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word "regime." pronounced just like the English word with an extra "eh" sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem).
So this raises the question.. what exactly did he want "wiped from the map"? The answer is: nothing. That's because the word "map" was never used. The Persian word for map, "nagsheh" is not contained anywhere in his original Farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase "wipe out" ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran's president threatened to "wipe Israel off the map." despite never having uttered the words "map." "wipe out" or even "Israel."
The Proof:
The full quote translated directly to English:
"The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."
Word by word translation:
Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from)

If the American people truly care about Israel and the citizens of Israel they will stop promoting or believing lies coming from the war lobby which will only lead to more wars in the Middle East
Bachmann gets her information from the press
This is not the first time Bachmann has been proven wrong because of her trust in baseless information which had circulated in the press.
I strongly encourage everyone to go to Youtube and look up the full NBC interviews of Ahmadinejad by Andrea Mitchell(the former Mrs. Alan Greenspan)as well as the follow-up interview with NBC's Brian Williams.
At no time during these interviews with the employees of the defense contractor, General Electric, does Ahmadinejad ever directly deny that 6 million European Jews died during WWII. No rational person can listen to these interviews and come away with such an assumption yet both of these interviewers later go on to make the false claim that Ahmadinejad did in fact deny the Jewish Holocaust during these very interviews.
Mitchell and Williams simply give later comment to something which never occured. This lie has been repeated enough in the press that some people who actually consider themselves properly informed and qualified to make foreign policy decisions, believe it to be true.

MITT ROMNEY: STILL UN-ELECTABLE
I will be out of town the week of May 21st.
They never learn...
4 years ago the Republican candidates spewed rhetoric about jihads, caliphates, Iran, ad nauseam. Fear was their only available asset considering the economy had imploded on their watch. They even doubled-down by giving decorated war hero John McCain the nomination. Of course, the fear message did NOT resonate with the american people who opted for "hope and change" instead.
Fast forward to today, we still have the same morons spewing the exact same message. Little has changed. Somehow they feel it will work this time? What's the definition of insanity again? Do they WANT Obama to win?
Ironically, Dr. Paul is only one who can save the sinking ship known as the GOP, yet they fight him tooth and nail.
More than the sinking GOP ship is at stake
Yes, our leaders continue to send messages that are intended to instill fear in us so that we will support them in the efforts to start the next war.
Why our are leaders so eager to argue in favor of war rather than propose how to bring peace to the world?
If we continue with more wars that we can't afford, it is not only the GOP ship that will sink, it is the U.S. as we know it that will sink.
