Registered Republicans vs non-Rep (before Ron Paul)

0 votes

At our meetup we had a show of hands to reveal the following:

The proportion was 1 registered republican to 15 non-republicans before they learned about Ron Paul.

I was non-partisan.

How about everyone here? Were you a Republican before you got on with Ron Paul? If not, what were you?

Here is an online poll about the same idea. Let's participate!

Yesterday Republican - Getting out Today

I've been a Republican for many years. I went to Caucus for Ron Paul last night. I am going to file papers and get the hell out of that party today.
I completely encourage all of you to register Republican or stay Republican for RP, but I'm just glad today is the day I get liberated from that fascist organization. I've come to realize what a bunch of damn arrogant hippocrits there are in that party and I never want to associate my name with them again.
After your primary/caucus I would encourage all of you to free yourselves and leave that party in the dust - The people in control of the organization will not change. Why would we want to carry all of their baggage around anyway? They are nothing more than Democrats.
Some people need to be brought down to their knees before they start to get some sense.

Anybody have any input whether to go "Independent" or "Libertarian"?

The problem is, the GOP is

The problem is, the GOP is the only place that a libertarian wing can hope to flourish. There are similar efforts to "fix" the DP, but those are doomed to failure because leftist philosophy is anti-liberty by definition.

Which Way: Out or In?

I understand, MotoXDog. I am having an internal debate on that topic.

One side of me says "Get out as fast as you can!" It isn't as though I enjoy political activities.

On the other hand, the Republican Party is vulnerable---ripe for change. We may not have another opportunity to really influence the party (and the future direction of the country) unless we take this opportunity and use it to best advantage.

We should be encouraged about finding each other. Until now, I thought I was alone and I easily persuaded myself that fighting the fight would be lonely and thankless. Now, with the company of so many good people, I don't have that excuse any more.

What will I actually do about my Republican registration and about activism? I'm not certain right now. I do know that discovering all of you gives me hope that things can be turned around...especially if we act together to make certain we are heard in the Republican Party.

Considering how rigged the system is, is there any other effective alternative?

Hope!

These posts are inspiring. Nothing is more important than the cause of achieving liberty in this nation, and certainly nobody should let a political party affiliation be more important than the cause.

I thank everyone here (whether you were an I, L, D, etc.) who is now supporting Ron Paul. I am convinced that Dr. Paul has not only done more for liberty than anyone else in our lifetime, but he has begun the awakening in this nation we've need for so long.

I really liked reading an earlier post from someone who had been an LP member for over 20 years who has now become a GOP delegate and in support of Dr. Paul. That is wonderful! Thanks to everyone sharing such stories, as I find such personal stories to be powerful testimonials for hope despite appearances in this nation.

i registered just to vote

i registered just to vote for kerry. but you better believe i'ma vote for the great dr. paul!

14 Republican out of 52 non Republican before Ron Paul

That's going to surprise a lot of the polls.

The willies?

Aside from some people who don't follow the platform, the GOP is the party of the republic. I don't understand how a Paul supporter can be a Democrat after this. I mean, to Demcrats, government is always the solution, the UN is king, and taxes are not something bad. Did you see Hillary's Christmas ad? Everyone else had greetings but she was putting things on the Christmas Tree that she was going to GIVE everyone, using everyone else's money, of course. Universal pre-K was one, and as a teacher THAT gave ME the willies!!!!!!!!!!

This is why I've always

This is why I've always voted Republican, as the lesser evil. Still, I think it's time everyone woke up and realized that the Republican Party has been taken over by neoconservatives, which are the offspring of communists. They are effectively the same now, except (dare I say it?) the neocon-Republicans are starting to scare me a lot more, with their looming police-state mentality.

The one area where Republicans still trump Democrats, however, is on Supreme Court nominees. The Republicans tend to favor strict constructionists, whereas the Democrats love those activist judges who legislate from the bench and decide arbitrarily which parts of the Bill of Rights we shall be allowed to keep -- for now.

This is why we need a libertarian movement in the Republican Party. The Libertarian Party will never amount to anything, due to endless bickering and infighting, and the Democrats will never abandon socialism (their greatest success, FDR, having been a devout socialist), so it's up to the libertarian wing of the Republican Party to save America from itself.

If the Republican Party doesn't change...

I don't see how we can be Republicans either.

None of the other GOP candidates reflect me AT ALL.

GOP

I was a "staunch" republican. Voted for Bush in 00. It still plagues my conscience. Voted a straight Libertarian ticket in 04 and 06 as a matter of principle. RP fan for 2 years. Saw some of his speeches on C-Span, and was very impressed.

20+ years as Libertarian

I voted for Dr. Paul in '88.
I've run locally as a Libertarian.
I've changed my registration to (for the first time) rrrrrr..Re..pub..lican.
(Yeah, I did it!)
Ready to run now for delegate, and hopefully a trip to Minnesota!

The meetup group has folks like me, along with R's and D's, along with
the NEWCOMERS (they're the best!)

I applaud you!

This is what we need--so glad you're a GOP delegate! You got my attention when your headline said 20+ years as a L. And now you're supporting Dr. Paul. Thank you for sharing this. I do not understand why any libertarian (in the party or not) would not be supporting Ron Paul. Took me a while to come to this decision--but after watching Dr. Paul speak and reading his columns and his voting record--I am convinced no one else in the political arena in our lifetime has done more for the cause of liberty. Thanks for sharing of your support for him, too. And thank you!

I also have met some of the best people in the RP groups...now this is what liberty is about.

but as they say, we'd take a bullet for ron paul!

independent

I am still an independent. live in GA ( open primary)

what party?

I was raised a republican, and remained one for over 30 years, then became a democrat due to trashing of the environment, and have become a republican again due to Ron Paul, and because I believe freedom is more important than the environment now, and also don't believe in the intitlements the demos give. When the election is over, I will re-register as an Independent.
